In the US, you can only buy medicine in supermarket (that anyone can buy) if that drug has been proven to have very few or very mild side effects. Do you have to get a prescription for Tylenol or aspirin there in Germany? For drugs like ozempic/wegovy, you absolutely have to have a prescription and they're only available from pharmacies.

@@user-lb6tx1gx7kshe’s rich enough, i remember a real housewife reality star also did so despite not having diabetes. ozempic can be prescribed under a different name (like semaglutide) for non diabetics if a doctor believes it’s “safe” to use, which i’m assuming can only happen if they can afford to keep going to doctors until one prescribes it. they probably all see the same one. they find loopholes, because the american healthcare system is unfortunately that corrupt and easy to take advantage of with money.

Exactly. Being skinny is a side effect/ byproduct of being healthy. It’s difficult with a baby to prioritize like I should, I am not lazy, I have my moments, but am struggling with my weight and blood pressure as I had preclampsia. I am booked to see a doctor concerning my weight in September and am going to ask about this med to support my routine. Please consider sharing your alternative, as I would appreciate and would do due diligence. @@VansfanmailI am not a medical professional, just a general health & fitness nerd, but my first thought upon reading your post was: Have you had a full blood panel done recently, particularly looking at hormone levels? I'm particularly curious about thyroid levels because there's a type of thyroid information that is not uncommon in women after childbirth that's worth ruling out before making any other kinds of changes. That's just one specific example of a variety of things I would think they'd want to look for. I'm often surprised by how frequently doctors seem to shrug off health issues after pregnancy. One of my colleagues was an avid runner before pregnancy, but she couldn't run for years after childbirth because of how bad her hips would hurt. She took up pole dancing instead and loved it, so I'm happy for her that she found that, but I'm personally outraged that her doctor wouldn't have referred her to physio to get checked out because, you know, the ability to move your legs properly without pain is kind of important, and whether one has had a baby or not should be no reason for a doctor to dismiss pain and disability, imo.

@@Ad_Inferno hi, thanks for replying to my comment. I was already diagnosed with hypothyroidism prior to pregnancy. I see female doctors just for this purpose of understanding but I often feel a disconnect anyways, and that I am just another patient of the medical industrial complex. I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I’ve had to advocate a whole bunch and do research and recommend my own course of treatment often or keep pushing conversations. I’ve had to take my own action and wish that I could see a holistic doctor. But I need to use my insurance for visits and that keeps me going to what’s available and covered under my plan. I’m glad to hear your friend found a practice that helps her. Pole dancing can help a person in many ways, I’ve tried it before, SUPER rigorous. Also, I’ve gotten panels done but no one ever explains them. There’s so many gaps in healthcare but everything is temporary and we must push forward. I guess I’m just saddened by the gate keeping that happens. This is just another example of using and abusing our “natural” resources, just on another level/dimension.

I'm not trying to shame anyone in the comments section but I have hard time grasping how it's possible to forget to eat because I'm used to my body sending the signals: the que of hunger or hunger pains. It's possible that rather "forgetting" to eat your bodies are not receiving that signal of hunger..... Because if you're receiving those signals loud and clear, like most people, it's not a matter of "forgot" to eat but you suppressing your appetite to do x,y,z tasks bc you're busy with something. In any case if it's not a symptom of an ADHD (which is understandable) it's better not to suppress your appetite and hunger ques just to get work done just bc you live in an environment where there's not enough time or breaks to eat.

Using ozempic as a weight loss drug not only has severe consequences on those who take it but especially on diabetic patients. In fact, lots of patients are facing difficulties in finding doses of ozempic - a drug that they NEED in order to LIVE - due to the high demand from people who don't need it but still use it for "cosmetic" purposes. Therefore, that's not only dangerous for one's own health but also extremely selfish to do as they are putting other people's lives at stake.

Those people who use it to lose weight when they can still technically do other things (work out, eat healthier...) to do so, are stealing medication from people who actually need them. dont listen to those trying to reassure you. If you want to lose weight go for it! Be sure that you're doing it out of self love or a reason that truly means a lot to you. Track your calories, follow a diet plan (make sure it's not some disguised eat*ng disorder) and yeah, keep thinking about your reason and overtime you will see results and I hope it makes you happy :)

You know what else could suppress your sense of hunger? Depression. And after living through it I don’t understand why people want to not want to eat… I had to remind myself to eat so I don’t starve myself to death for more than 7 YEARS!!! It was a nightmare!!! When I started taking antidepressants and felt hungry for the first time on my memory, I literally cried while consuming this meal that came down from heaven. It was just pasta with tomatoes, sausages, and eggs. But still it was the best thing I had in years because I was naturally hungry and this hot meal satisfied me.

But depression can also make you crave food as a coping mechanism, too. For me, food makes me happy so when I’m depressed I like to eat. I’m even on an antidepressant known to decrease appetite and topirimate and an opiate and still I have a very healthy appetite! I try to only eat 1,000- 1,200 calories per day and get very frustrated if I go over that :/

I kind of get all of the comments saying that the people taking ozempic are selfish for taking it because it is causing a shortage, and people they know are having a hard time getting it because of it. But I think there are a lot more reasons to blame the pharmaceutical industry, the health care system, and even the doctors that prescribe it. I see so many comments in other videos about obese people, obese creators, and stuff like that, in which they get criticized a lot because of them not losing weight, because they are not "taking care of their health", because they are "lazy". I lost a lot of weight recently, and I can assure you, sometimes, for some people, it's so fucking hard. For me, it was. I felt so pressured to lose weight from friends, family, and beuty standards around me. Also, side effects from ozempic sound awful. People are using it because they really, really want to lose weight. I don't know, if you read this whole thing, I would just want you to really put yourself in other people's shoes and be more empathetic, because from my perspective, obese people just cannot win.

I agree! Why are doctors not held accountable for this irresponsible and dangerous- for both those who need it and can’t get, and those that are abusing it for visible hipbones- prescribing?? I don’t live in America and the health system is different here, so my understanding is v patchy, but it seems pretty clear that doctors are failing the first point of the Hippocratic (pretty sure I failed that spelling) oath. It’s just so fucked, people wanting to be skinny is not new, and neither is taking pills to get there - amphetamines anyone? - but doctors and the pharmaceutical companies are ultimately responsible here for selling medicine to people that don’t need it and leaving vulnerable people without it. My dad has serious type 2 diabetes and even in Poland, despite his neat salary, he gotta pay almost 1000 zloty (~$250) which is a lot for one box of meds in Poland. He even has to travel to different areas of the country to get his meds WITH A PRESCRIPTION FROM A DIABETOLOGIST, because none of the pharmacies in my 100k people city has it in stock. The state doesn't provide any refunds on it. Basically hunting for Ozempic has become his monthly habit during business trips. He started taking it when prices were around 250 zloty (~$60) and it was a rather high, yet acceptable price for such drug in Poland. Why does it happen, even outside the US? Because even in Europe and my shithole country, people prefer to vomit and have their guts broken cuz one "proper" body type is "acceptable".

I lost a lot of weight as a side effect of my medication (I will not tell you what I take), and let me tell you, it is no fun at all. I'm a dancer and do a lot of weight training. At some point, I was eating so little because I felt nauseous all the time that my muscles hurt way too fast if I tried to use them, and I was constantly out of breath. I felt like I couldn't maintain my job as a dance teacher nor my job as a barista. At that point, I turned to calorie counting, and for the first time in my life, it was not to lose weight but to make sure I would be eating enough. Listen, being skinny might be what society says is pretty, but not making it through your day, not being able to focus, losing your hair, or whatever because of nutrient deficiency is not worth it. Not to forget, fat does not simply sit on your body keeping you warm. It plays a big role in your hormone balance. Having low body fat can make you lose your period for a reason. (and that`s just the tip of the Iceberg) Can we all just agree that there are so many better ways to spend our time on Earth than to think about our looks? Learn a new language, an instrument, study for your exams, meet your friends, move your body, just live a little.

It's not right that diabetic people don't get the life-saving drugs they need, but why aren't we talking about the fact that pharmaceutical companies are allowing prices to spike and it shouldn't be on the general public to make sure that life-saving meds are affordable. Companies could increase production and improve their drug so that people who have diabetes and health issues related to extreme weight gain can also use this drug for medical treatment. Just because some rich people want to use it in cases that aren't necessary, doesn't mean that using it to lose weight is always a bad thing. Losing weight is hard, and it's exponentially more difficult when you are already carrying excess weight that makes exercise painful. Why is obesity seen as something not worthy of being treated with medication? Why does weight loss have to be some admirable journey that you went on and struggled through when it can be done in a way that is less physically, mentally and emotionally painful? Edit: I do think that being helped to make better eating and exercise choices while on the drug could be the best solution for people who need to lose weight and hopefully be weaned off of it. But I don't think they should be disqualified from taking it just because they might need to continue taking it. It's not ideal, but if it can improve or even save your life, why does the excuse have to be oh, but the you have to take it forever.
@nellivilhelmiina
@nellivilhelmiina Год назад
The issue with treating obesity with a drug like this is that you can’t get off it. Learning to implement healthy life style choises is so important because it gives longevity with the weight loss achieved. Obviously for one’s health using a drug to help with weight loss and at the same time learning a new lifestyle might be the answer, but I think there is a problem with adhearance to said lifestyle when hunger hormones kick back in after stopping the drug. And then it’s nothing more than a fad diet that leads you to lose and gain weight over and over again. Nobody (except someone who these meds were developed for) should be on them for life.
@jjanon2371
@jjanon2371 Год назад
@@nellivilhelmiina yes, simultaneous change in diet and lifestyle along with the drug sounds like an amazing idea, but if someone can't be weaned off the drug, I don't think that should be a deterrent. I don't think it's ideal for someone to be on mediation all their life, but if they have tried everything and this seems like the only option I think they should be allowed to go for it under the supervision of doctors and dieticians. My brother died because he couldn't lose weight despite trying all of his adult life. He was on antidepressants that made it impossible and if there was a drug that could have helped, I think he would have taken it. He was on antidepressants all his life to not die, I don't see how this would be that much different.
@nellivilhelmiina
@nellivilhelmiina Год назад
@@jjanon2371 we know long term effects of antidepressants, but not this sort of medication. Sadly morbid obesity and severe issues with over eating are linked with mental health issues, so losing weight would not guarantee help with other health problems. I’m sorry for your loss.
@jjanon2371
@jjanon2371 Год назад
@@nellivilhelmiina You make a good point, and, I thank you for hearing my point as well. I definitely think that more should be done to discover the potential harm and good that these kinds of drugs could do for people. I don't think it's an accident that we don't often have programs that recommend the use of meds or appetite suppressants to help in conjunction with lifestyle changes. Just look at how companies are taking advantage of the spike in demand and rising price of Ozempic instead of manufacturing more so that people who will die without it can still get their treatment regularly and affordably. Of course, most medical professionals want their patients to get better, but too many people at the very top just want more money, so they don't care if people have to keep coming back for more meds, more diet advice etc. I think there is a lot of potential for medications to help yield better results in people that have to lose weight for their health while helping them establish better habits to wean them off of the meds as well. I don't have any issue with losing weight the hard traditional way and I still believe the majority of people should go this route. But I have a big issue with the judgement and stigma that comes when people try methods that are easier. Being called lazy or a cheat for trying to help yourself get a body that is easier to move, to clean, to clothe. No one judges a person for taking a pain killer to make a headache more bearable even though most headaches go away if you hydrate, sleep it off, or just grit your teeth through it, so it's frustrating to see fat people getting judged when they want to make their weight loss easier. As a woman that has been struggling with anorexia for the past six years (and having a lot of family members that struggle with the same disorder) I can assure you that trying to lose weight whilst ingesting enormous amounts of food is not possible without ruining your system. Showing this type of behavior to an audience made up of mostly young girls and boys is really dangerous. Eating disorders tend to appear when you are at a young age (let's say 12 to 14 years old) and if you are an impressionable teen and have this type of videos shown up to you 24/7, it's pretty logical to end up having some problems with your eating habits. Also, I want to say that for us people living in third world countries it's pretty crazy that whilst Americans do not have access to free healthcare they are taking the drugs that are used for people who have serious health issues. Tiktok and the platforms that have this type of content should be banned or have stricter regulations regarding these themes.

I am glad to see people discuss this in more layers. I personally am really annoyed by how obesity is viewed and treated. People act like the only reason why anyone is fat is because they eat too much, they dont consider how many drugs can affect the metabolism not only the appetite, and how the metabolism is far from scientifically understood. We do NOT understand how exactly our bodies metabolize. I know people scream that we do, but we do not. There are plenty of people who eat a ton and dont gain a pound (for better or worse), people who barely look at food and gain weight, people who live unhealthy but dont get sick, and people who live healthy and get sick. The research into these matters isnt popular or encouraged. Why would it be? Selling us diet pills, diet programs and coaching programs and then blaming obese people for any illness so that insurance can save money is way more profitable aint it? Thats why from day 1 im mad at the enthusiasm people have over ozempic. I know people who eat too much and in 99% of the cases its a mental issue, result of years of trauma and eating disorders. Someting you should absolutely treat with more than a pill. Its great to help people deal with hunger and appetite, while teaching them healthy ways of feeding themselves. But if you dont get people back to baselevel what are we doing here? If medication increases appetite, and ozempic would help normalize it, then thats a good thing. But is that whats happening? If someone has diabetes, and this medication helps them, great. But i just want people to understand that not everyone who is obese eats a lot, not everyone who struggles with weight has diabetes. Im not the only person, but i can only speak for myself: Years of anorexia have brought my metabolism to nearly a halt. I seem to have all kinds of issues, like thyroid issues, slow metabolism, im freezing, my iron is low, my inflammation high. I gained a lot of weight, and it was always blamed on me as a person. I got diagnosed with anorexia and yet you know what the only help is that im offered? Gastric bypass and medication like ozempic. Why? Please ask yourself why. Insurance companies wont cover anything else, and doctors follow guidelines by offering only these two options to me. But i think everyone with some sanity in their mind will see the issue with this. Im already malnutrioned, i struggled with zero appetite for years and after many years of therapy i can proudly say i have finally felt hunger and a desire to eat. Why would a person like me profit from ozempic? I probably wouldnt lose any weight, because i already dont eat a lot, nor have high glucose or insulin levels. I need to take suppliments to upkeep my nutrition - so why would you force me to a lifetime of malnutrition by reducing my stomach size? People who are skinny or normal weight dont know what they are fucking with. They are inducing eating disorders upon themselves only for the currently popular body standard. I been there, and i hate that this is promoted as a medically healthy new step. The fatbias must stop! Thats what we need, and proper research.

People will do anything but exercise💀 They really need to watch the metabolism video of Zoe which says that you are actually losing muscles when you lose weight. When you lose the muscle it's actually short-term weight loss and you will gain it back but double. I personally have lost 6kg of fat and gained muscles. When I lost this fat while focusing on gaining muscles. My whole physique looked good, and my scale weight also went down.

My dad uses ozempik but not entirely for weight loss. He’s not diabetic, but it’s in his family and he’s already had 4 weight loss surgeries bc he was so big. I myself am actually obese, and I wanted take this for a long time. Idk if I will but this gave me smth to think abt.

I feel like taking these drugs is really dangerous for people who do not have type 2 diabetes. I think there are gonna be some nasty long term side effects. the truth of the matter (from someone who has been overweight--underweight struggling with anorexia--normal and healthy and strong!) is that in order to be your best self and lose weight or gain weight or whatever you have to fix your relationship with your body!! and its wayyyyy deeper than you think

I get that some people need to lose weight for help,reasons but just for aesthetic purposes is crazy. We need food for nutrients and fuel for our bodies. Folks doing this and depriving their bodies or nutrients just to look a certain way is crazy!

Me eating once in 2-5 days normaly be like: people have to be on drugs to do that? Also starving doesn't work for weight loss. You just won't gain as much while dieting.
