This is an amazing upgrade that increased my cut quality tenfold. The roller supplier was quick and responsive as well. Thanks for sharing this great tip.
Hey Dan . Mission completed thanks for the information . The cylinder was cheaper than I thought it would be and I saved myself the postage cost when I realised they were about 3 km from where I live. I also filled some ziplock bags (using 3 bags each side to strengthen the packages) with 5 kg of sand to make 2 packages . On each package I applied some industrial strength Velcro and also put it on the surface ,each side of the battery compartment so they wouldnt fall off when I was mowing . It worked brilliantly and I achieved the lawn marking I used to get with my petrol cylinder mower.
Gidday, have one of these and very happy with it. I like the mod you have done but don't understand how it make the mower cut better. I got a quote for the roller and it cost more for postage than the roller. Found the same on Ebay and postage was about half. Still considering whether to upgrade or not. I find that if I mow the same line in both directions the cut is fine, no missing bits. I never use the catcher. Thanks for your posts on this mower.
Top stuff! I really enjoy the fact that you are following through with this mower and making improvements. I have been thinking about this mower as an in between mower to keep things nice and neat however I was wondering if this you can also be used this without the battery in manual mode in a similar way to the old Ryobi whereby you can just push it and it activates the blades via the wheels under your momentum. I am assuming not based on what I have seen. Definitely a good buy if it can do that. It would certainly be more versatile and give you piece of mind if the battery dies in between mowing or they stop producing the batteries for whatever the reason. Once again awesome stuff.
Hi Dan Thanks for the video. I’m looking at doing similar to my HR19 Honda rotary mower. It had a rubber flap at the back which has broken off, so I thought I would try to retro fit a free rolling roller similar to this. I’m trying to find the link for your roller. Could you send me in the right direction please? Keen to hear your thoughts on fitting some brackets and this roller to a rotary mower. Cheers
Thanks for doing the video, I have ordered one of these rollers. my 'neat' front lawn is on a bit of a slope so it will be interesting to see if it improves the evenness which I am struggling with a bit with the Ozito, this might just do the trick.
@@danbretherton I've got the roller and fitted it.. it's 1050 grams vs 200 grams of the original plastic roller and bar, it is ever so slightly smaller in diameter 50mm vs 52mm but otherwise is a simple mod and fits like a glove just as you had noted. I haven't had a chance to test yet (wet weather) but looks like it will assist to maintain height as the cutting blade is at the back of the unit this extra leveraged weight will assist to keep the cutting blade at a more constant even height especially over thick patches of grass or when having to use some pushing force up small hills where sometimes the back roller might lift off the ground slightly momentarily.
HI Dan, enjoyed the video and tip. How much modification to the CRR007 did you have to do? any at all? or once removing the factory rollers the CRR007 just fitted? about to purchase the CRR007 but just wanted to check if there was any cutting or grinding required to the new roller? cheers
Hi Dan Having some trouble with the side bracket, I have a socket holding on the outside nut and then a shifter holding the inside nut. But it keeps turning on me even when I am bracing it. Did you find it extra stiff or am I doing it wrong.
You shouldn’t have to sharpen the blades, they will sharpen themselves if adjusted properly, you need to adjust then so they will cut paper, I’ll make a video on it, stay tuned.
