Great video! I've had the same unit for over 2 years and it's on a slide in my aluminium canopy. I go off road quite regularly and it copes very well with the rough terrain. The only issue I can report was with the power pug on the unit. It looked fine but would not make contact so no power was getting to it. I bypassed the plug and simply hard wired it. I run 2 90ah batteries that charge from a 160w solar panel or from the alternator while driving. Even when parked up for close to a week under heavy cloud cover, I've never had any problems with the fridge draining the batteries. During the week, I usually have the fridge loaded with water bottles, both frozen and cold, to use at work. When camping, there is plenty of room to carry all the food supplies (including ice creams) for trips away. Other than the power plug issue, I cannot fault this fridge and highly recommend it to anyone! This fridge actually works better than the 240v fridge in my house!
Thanks for doing the video as it is a great real world test. I purchased the same fridge for the same price at the same outlet and I have also been running a test to review power consumption. I am set up in a canopy, not the rear of a car. I had my freezer set at (-18) and fridge set at (+2) degrees. Using solar roof panels only to recharge the battery, I found I was using about 20amps from when the solar stopped supply power (about 5pm) to 6am the following morning) so this averaged about 1.5amps per hour which is similar to your consumption. Yes they are a very good "value for money" option.
Great video mate, I never really considered this fridge but seeing how it performed in the video it’s definitely in the running and $1100 cheaper than a Engel you can’t go wrong.
Nailed it mate. You can near on buy 3 of these for an Engel. I’ve literally flogged this thing. It’s been on the beach a 100 times and still performs flawlessly. Bang for buck, AAAAA+++++ 👌🏽
After watching this great video I will be buying one of these. Most that I have looked at wont work to well once the ambient temp reaches 38degs. This one a 46degs was working well at keeping the temp of the fridge at below 2degs. Thank you for spending the time to make this video.
1.5A/H average draw impressive for a massive 80L fridge and you cooking it in 46c heat. usually i crack my windows a bit to help out . I have a companion zero 45L looks to be a rebadged fridge 45L and it drew like 32ah over 4 days set at 2c but day temps where hovering around 20c. Was rather impressed.
Thanks for the video. Just picked up a 80 litre Oztrail duel , from Anaconda. Been running a Weaco for 10+ years. Still happy with it but need a bigger fridge. Your video was great and helped me decide. Thanks mate.
Nice review mate. Grabbed one last week. Freezer for meat at -10 fridge at 2c 100ah lithium battery and 120w solar. Never missed a beat in 35c heat most days. Old engell gave up after 8 yrs. Only wish the lids were reversable and it had plug points at either end for greater flexibility. For the price its a winner.
I've had one of these for around 2.5 years now and it's been my favorite fridge so far, and this is the 7th 12v fridge I've had over the years. It's quieter than any of the Danfoss/Secop based fridges I've had in the past. I've never had it struggle yet in heat. I like the LG compressor. The only thing that annoys me about this fridge is the basket that doesn't create a barrier over the area where you would keeps eggs and salad etc (above the motor) I don't know whether newer models have remedied this?
great video. just got one today. if you chilled it before your trip then take the 6ah off to chill it and you'd be around the 31 32ah for the 24 hours. that's pretty good 👌
Thanks for your good review method and details. But 0 degrees Celsius is not a tough test, and I would have liked to see it reviewed as a freezer too, *especially* whether it really does freeze down to -18 Celsius (or if it can't, what can it freeze down to), and how much power it uses to keep things at -18 Celsius, or whatever the real-life minimum is. This is the acid test that sorts the men from the boys, and it has to perform as a freezer too, surely!
still a top video thanks heaps, and i do like beer 1 side, food the other side for a short stay. i bet frozen steak or similar in food side would stay frozen awhile at 1 or 2 deg..
@@InfxusAdventures 4wd supacentre sell the plug with an Anderson connection for just under $20 i grabbed 1 the other day and kept original plug aside just for warranty.
Thanks for the video that's really helped .. Off to get one this weekend there down to $699 again .. Pretty new to the Camping game .. Was looking at a VoltX 12V 100ah LiFePO4 Lithium Battery with a 150W Solar panel .. That should do the trick hey ?
Great review! with the real world simulations! How is she performing a year out? It would be interesting to see how this fridge stands the test of time!
I’ve literally flogged that crap out of it. It’s spent over 3 months in total on the beach and we know how sell harsh an environment that is. It still looks and performs as new. Grab one, you will not regret it 👍🏽
Sure do. Still strapped in the back of my 80. Prolly done 20 trips and it has not missed a single beat! It’s a beast of a fridge. Actually, your comment has got me thinking I should do a follow up vblog 👍🏽 Cheers mate 🍺
Heh mate, awesome video :) just wondering what the dimensions are Without the hinges/latches? I have a drop slide that measures 530mm wide. Would be awesome if this fits ;)
Great video test. You say you are running 2x 150A AGM Batteries, did you check the voltage state the next morning to see how much power was consumed ? We’re you also running solar input or just power from your batteries? The reason I ask is I have a 1x 135A AGM and 25A dc dc charger and not sure if it will cope, what are your thoughts.
Voltage doesn’t really show usage. The amps used does. I use solar in my setup but didn’t have it hooked up for this test. I just ran off fully charged batteries. I think provided you run your vehicle for a few hours every day, your setup should be fine. I would suggest you get solar though for when your sitting still.
Curious to know what its like 9 months on? I'm considering one and a ark pak 730 power box with a 105ah battery. Thinking of this method for the portability of a fridge between 2 cars.
I've owned one for 20 months now. cheap and nasty, hard to keep the inside clean as it is like aluminium foil type lining and marks easily with the baskets rattling around, not like an easy to clean solid plastic liner in other fridges. Plus if you spill something inside is not easy to clean up due to the sharp internal corners that eventually become mouldy. But the biggest issue for me, on a recent camping trip it suddenly decided it wont go below 5 degrees. set it lower to like 2 degrees and the compressor runs non stop, so obviously something has packed up and I'm battling with a warranty claim as of now as comes with a 2 year warranty. When new, and for the first few months I thought it was a good for the price, but to see what something is really like a long term review is needed. for me minus one star.
I should give an update, contacted Oztrail who got back to me quickly and said to take it to a local assessor. within 3 days I was told the fridge had lost all of its refrigerant and was unrepairable and to return it to anaconda. so I returned it my loczl anaconda store with the paperwork and they refunded me in full the entire sum that I paid for it. doesnt get better than that and I a new found respect for both oztrail anaconda @@InfxusAdventures
The cover is great for protection of the body but actually hinders slightly the cooling efficiency. I’m more in favour of efficiency. Your call what’s important to you.
@@InfxusAdventures yah I did see that. I purchased the fridge yesterday, so far sitting in the lounge it’s working perfectly haha, I’m testing to see how long it runs on an old car battery I have here.
Hey im interested in the fridge but have been really struggling to find your slide or one slide that fits how wide the fridge is. Any help would be awesome
Hey, thanks for the sub. I’m not completely familiar with Engel plugs, but as they have 2 pins, they’ll be + & - same as the Oztrail plug, so shouldn’t be an issue.
i just brought a aldi one and what a pice of shit fridge set a 3 dg but it runs at -22 my mate said by the oz trail he has had one 3 years no problems it has been running 6 weeks no stop at my house and it works fine so im taking eldi one back and guna drive 200km to bye a oz trail
@@InfxusAdventures thanks for your reply mate I got the 80l today I set fridge at 0 but the temp says -6 so i set it to +3 and it is sitting at about-2 does yours show about 5 colder than the set temp the freezer is spot on
@@InfxusAdventures only a few bottles of water its only 4dg out now i left it over night your wright though when i fill it up more it will be ok thanks for reply 👍
