Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley is brought to life in visual form.
Ozymandias has been illustrated in an attempt to capture the mood, language and themes it represents. The timelessness of Shelley's poem is clear from the poem's universal themes of time, pride and the power of nature, which are still relevant today.
Ozymandias is a poem about the ephemeral nature of power. Shelley's message is that great leaders may acquire vast power and influence in their lifetime, but despite this, even the greatest ruler's achievements eventually come to nothing - worn away by the unstoppable march of time. Its message remains popular; it was famously read by Bryan Cranston in the Breaking Bad episode titled 'Ozymandias'.
The poem 'Ozymandias' is part of the Power and Conflict collection studied on the AQA GCSE literature syllabus. The video is a helpful study tool, illustrating the imagery and themes within the poem alongside the text.
