Agree. It was this soundtrack, and the tribute album 'Nativity In Black' that I first heard of Type O Negative. From that moment, I was hooked. R.I.P. Peter Steele.
I know this cover since I was like...11 or 12 years old. I was already a huge Sabbath/Ozzy fan. I used to listen to it so many times alone at home, and I had no idea it was a cover. Now it strikes me as one of the best cover songs out there, along with Hendrix playing Dylan.
I remember buying this soundtrack as a young kid and having my parents question me when they heard Howard’s voice during the movie clips featured on the soundtrack haha. At the age I was they didn’t want me listening or watching anything Howard Stern related and here I would end up loving his show years later ha. I was more along for the ride during the Artie era more than Jackie. I always had to catch myself quickly monitoring the CD so that only the songs would play if my parents were home, though I could get away with the Crxckhead Bob feature before live AC/DC would blast lol, and this song is actually what introduced me to checking out more Type O. I loved Ozzy which was icing on the cake but musically I loved this song so much the heaviness of it with the ambient feel, that I had to check out Type O’s catalog up to that point and man how I was missing out before, and in for a crazy treat of awesome music. Have always loved Type O Negatives sound with guitar and bass tones. They definitely had their own sound and nobody to this day has that awesome sound. Some try though, and not counting the other project stuff we get from Kenny. Besides the special features of both Kenny and Pete’s Axe’s, I loved the use of Chorus pedals with distortion along with their reverbs and delays but that Chorus sound is truly what gave Type O their unique sound with how they incorporated it. Like what Zakk was using for effects on Ozzmosis with tracks like See You On The Otherside. Producers etc were all trying to copy that Soundgarden Blackhole Sun acid tone sound style with both clean and dirty channels. I know Type O used axe and mini etc but at end of day that is chorus and distortion. Anyway I would then hear the version of this song with Pete’s vocals only and I absolutely love that version! Must admit I like it more, not that I dislike Ozzy’s awesome version any less, and maybe the fact that Petes vocal version was so rare at the time to find, may have also made the excitement of it stand out more, but once I found a Pete vocal version in HQ I was in Metal Heaven! The way he sings it sounds so good and I will find myself playing only his version a lot more now. Though what I usually will do is I have this version, a version with Pete only and a version with both Pete and Ozzy. I find myself listening to the song in a mix 3 times in a row lol. Gives me the excuse to play it a few times and never get sick of Kenny’s riffs and that guitar tone along with Pete’s bass, just gnarly. Yelloooow woe woe wa woooooooooe haha awe man Pete was cool as Fxck. RIP man 🤘🎸🤘
People aren't realizing Ozzy's fucking Melody lines make this song sound like an anthem more than a 'Song' or 'vocal cover'. Ya gotta know music (and Ozzy's range to understand)
Why for gawd's sake is this incredible version not being played on Sirius Radio's OZZY'S BONEYARD Channel???????????????????????????? Is somebody at Sirius actually deaf or something??? Geezus! Rotate it in!!!!!!! If not Ozzy than play the Peter Steel version!!!!!! A well-edited mash-up with both vocals would be incredible, also!!!! Are you seeing this Ozzy's recording engineers??????
I always said pictures was one of the very first metal songs. People would say no its not metal and black sabbath was first anyway. Somehow felt exonerated when I was working in a kitchen with the radio on and heard this come on
@@jdstinner3868 is there a better version of the Type O version? this is good, played a lot on rock radio, but Type O's version, w/o Ozzy, would be worth a listen
Lyrics: Oh Ah Oh Ah When I look up to the sky I see your eyes in a funny kind of yellow I rush to bed I soak my head I see your face underneath my pillow I wake next morning tossed and yawning I see your face come peeping through my window Oh no Oh Ah Oh Ah Pictures of matchstick men and you Images of matchstick men and you All I ever see is them and...you Oh Ah Oh Ah Windows echo your reflection When I look in their direction Gone Yeah they're gone When will this haunting stop Your face just won't leave me alone Oh no Pictures of matchstick men and you Images of matchstick men and you All I ever see is them and you Oh you're in the sky You're with this guy You make men cry, you lie Pictures of matchstick men (x6) I can see those matchstick men (x6)
SIMPLEMENTE NO SUENA BIEN.
@@eztalapalapatequetl respeto tu punto amigo.
Saludos! 🤘
At the end if you listen closely, you can hear backwards vocals. I ran it through a Reverse filter in Audacity and here's what I heard (just repeating): "You (in/win) (the sky/this guy), You (in/win) (the sky/this guy), You make men cry, you lie."
Set the play speed to 1.25x and it actualy sounds better without being cartoonish - probably closer to the original intent, I suspect at some point it was slowed down.
Sometimes when an artist/s do a cover it comes out great. Think about Joe Cocker's "with a little help from my friends" or Aerosmithh doing Yardbrds "Train kept a rollin" and there are other times when it comes out as being butchered...Ozzy? TypeO ......put down the knives please youve butchered it....deary me what a mess youve made
