I don't understand all the trolling on Gus; he played the Jake solo flawlessly and his own lead over the outro vamp was absolutely killing! I think some of you need to get over your emotional attachments to the Ozzy guitarists of days past.
@Dave Fitzgerald Hahaha - "FACTS aren't trolling." I didn't realize opinions of musicianship are hard, provable scientific data. Psssh (ps - where's video of you playing guitar?)
@@rebeccaperks4458 your comment made me wonder "what kind of virtuoso superstar would so flippantly dismiss a guitarist of Gus's caliber?" and went to your page to check out your work. Yep, nothing there. Trolls never have anything to show.
Gus isn't a bad guitarist. Unfortunately, he is expected by many to be another Randy type clone, which is probably not going to happen. He's not my favorite, but I like him in Ozzy opposed to Zakk. History dictates that Ozzy changes guitarists every so often, so I'll enjoy Gus while he pays his dues.
After all the things Ozzy has done to himself over the years, be it drugs or alcohol, I'm amazed that he's still alive and rockin' the vocals. I saw him in St. Louis, January of this year. The whole band was fantastic. Personally, I love Zakk's work with Ozzy and BLS, but Gus has made the band so much better.. Ozzy Osbourne: one of the best vocalists ever and one of the few artists responsible for my musical inspiration.
I heard of Gus G before anyone remotely knew who he was in like 2002 or so with Firewind. He did a an Instrumental song "The Fire And The Fury" and I was floored, especially at the end. I said to myself this guy is going somewhere big. I WAS RIGHT! I just didn't know how big! Now unfortunately for him, people will probably only remember him from Ozzy. I hope he gets with a bigger band, even though Firewind are still killer!
I remember the original tour supporting this album back in 86 with Jake. Gus is just as good in his own way, just like all the Ozzy guitarist. Amazing musicians, all of them
Gus G. (Kostas Karamitroudis) is a real nice guy, and an excellent metal guitar player! I have his other band's CD's (FIREWIND), and it truly is great stuff! The man has chops and feel too!
+AudiophileTubes really I know about firewind I bought the cd DVD pack but I'm not into that much European music I listen but sometimes it seems like they have their own music medium outside of rock,,to me it's really different, the farthest I ever went was Arch Enemy..I really love them..
+AudiophileTubes Euro metal has been shitting on American metal for 30 years now. American metal is shit on average. Helloween, Sodom, Destruction, Kreator, the whole god damn Swedish Death Metal scene, German Power metal. They do it better than Americans and have for years. Hell Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are English bands. That should say everything right there. Motorhead, Saxon, UDO, Accept.....all Euro. Fuck American metal.
+James Nagel Agreed. Even Japanese metal was great (Loudness, EZO, etc.). There are some great U.S. hard rock/metal guitar players though... Buck Dharma, Ace Frehley, the guys from Queensryche and Aerosmith, Jake E. Lee, Randy Rhoads, Warren DeMartini, Reb Beach, Eddie Van Halen, George Lynch, John Petrucci, etc. Dokken was excellent, back in the day. As was Ratt. Dream Theatre. But you're right... no match for Euro hard rock and metal.
I was at this performance. I don't give a shit if Randy, Zakk, or Gus G is the best for Ozzy. They're all fantastic. I'm tired of everyone complaining. OZZY FOREVER
My list of Ozzy's best guitarists; Randy, Jake, Gus, Zakk. I gave Jake second because he was a more than acceptable replacement for Randy and Gus got third because he's like a mix of Randy and Jake. Zakk's a monster on guitar, but he's a one-trick pony; southern rock with pinch harmonics. Not taking away from Zakk's ability as he's a far better guitarist than i am, but Gus is closer to the classic Ozzy than Zakk ever was.
James Yates I have a difficult time ranking Iommi as he isn't nearly as technically skilled as any of Ozzy's subsequent guitarists, but he helped lay the groundwork for heavy metal and is one of the most influential guitarists of all time.
RaderizDorret Agreed, I'd put him between Jake and Gus because he was a great guitar player for his era and inspired a lot but wasn't near Randy and Jake's technical abilities. I'd also put Zakk over Gus only because he does what he does well and he also influenced many guitarists.
What about Brad Gillis? He was on Speak Of The Devil.Thats a live album.Play that album,cd,cassette, whatever, play it loud.He was great. He left Ozzy for Night Ranger. That was a mistake.
I've heard him on Speak of the Devil and Night Ranger's Dawn Patrol. He's tough to place. Here's my list Randy, Jake, Tony, Joe Holmes, Zakk, Brad, Gus G, and Bernie Torme.
Ozzy's had some truly outstanding musicians through the years but for me, Jake E Lee was his best guitarist. Not saying he was any better than the rest in ability, just loved his style of playing. Randy was awesome too.
Dont rate his album at all...randy 1st album blizzard of ozz..brilliant..zakks.no rest for wicked....outstandig...gus..scream ......what your opion??????
you couldnt have said it better my friend, there is a level of energy that must come in to play. Ive been studying all the ozzy guitarist and all except gus play EVERYTHING with that same intensity.
One thing Gus brought is the capability and willingness to play these songs. ( Ultimate Sin era). He didnt bring an issue that Ozzy should only play this song and this song. This is the best mix of Ozzy songs in a long time. True Ozzy has his " classic albums" but every album/era has some GREAT songs on them. He didnt write any of the songs on the album but lets see what Ozzy/Gus team can bring to the table next album.
Gus G also commanded respect for all his predecessors. He claimed no gauntlet. He served. And he served the songs. Therefore he is the best next to Randy by understanding the spirit.
Oh my God Gus G. is an absolute animal on this Ozzy classic!! Look at that 6 stack *BLACKSTAR* 200 watt full stack backline!! I know he was endorsed my them and I hope he still has some of those heads & cabs because holy hell he deserves them! I love me some BLACKSTAR but lately I've been going with other brands...... Idk but he is the man though judging by the way he handled this rhythm & solo on Shot In The Dark
@auto4union I no right?!?! That keyboard and guitar solo harmony is insane lol but the way Gus just shreds perfectly instead of sloppily like Zakk just makes me respect him way more lol
Who the heck cares about the gut? He is 62 people! The guy is amazing, still rocking and going strong! I was in that show, absolutely awesome!!! If I had a bucket list it would have been more than complete, I saw Ozzy!!!!
@ChrisRinaldiMusic You're totally right. I'm the biggest Zakk Wylde fan you'll ever talk to. I think he matured past the point where he was contributing anything to the Ozzy stuff. I love Zakk but I'm glad Ozzy got Gus G. It was a shot in the arm his sound needed. Plus Zakk can concentrate totally on the awesome BLS stuff and it'll be that much better. Nothing will ever take away from the amazing work Ozzy and Zakk did together. That'll live on forever.
@jtollison Actually, Shot in the Dark was written by a guy named Steve Overland, from the band Wildlife. Phil Soussan was in Wildlife, and I think he co-wrote the song with Steve Overland. Phil Soussan brought the song to Ozzys band.
Love it. I loved watching this, listening to Gus do all the classic metal style shredding, then he pulls Malmsteen shit out of his ass! Mind blown. and how the hell did he get that sustain?
@@hispanoamericano3015 the right mix- compressor and overdrive I get sustain on low volume clean sounds that’s better than I got playing loud with very heavy gain and distortion. In the old days sustain went hand and hand with feedback- now it’s easy. More than one way to get it from a pedal.
funny Ozzy said years ago that he was never going to play this song because of a dispute that ozzys bass player in 86 Phil wrote it and Ozzy was never going to play it again
@MrCanzara Gus G is already a superstar, the guy has had almost 10 (or 10 exactly, not really sure) years playing with a prog/metal band named Firewind. To say the least Gus G is the most technical guitarrist Ozzy has ever had, maybe not as much stage presence as RR and Zakk but he sure as hell plays one mean lead guitar.
@MrCanzara NOt really ranting were just saying that Gus G is a very good musician and that he deserves a chance like any other guy before you start bashing on him. I just gave my opinion as another musician (I also play guitar) and I like the tone Gus G uses and his style I'm not basing my opinion on what everyone else says I just know what I talk about, but if you think RR is the best Ozzy has to offer than more power to you.
Zakk Wylde is hands down the best live player, and arguably the best guitar player to play in Ozzy's band. He replaced a legend, created his own sound and resurrected Ozzy's career during the grunge 90's. He has the best tone and all around talent imo. No disrespect to Randy, Jake, Gus or the guy from Night Ranger. : D
***** Wow, a little testy today BG? I play guitar, so of course I've heard of Dimebag. I was talking about Ozzy guitar players, not All guitar players. It's all opinion anyway, and judging from your username and comment, we all know yours. Relax, have a Great Day and crank that Pantera!!!
Ozzy never wrote the words to shoot in the dark it was Bob daisley that wrote most if not all the first four albums Ozzy would make up the title but Bob had to come up with the words, it's pretty funny I saw it in an interview with Jake and Bob if you look on RU-vid you'll probably find it
Seriously though I read Bob's book. This is Phils song. Bob and Jake wrote most of the USin album just not this tune and Phil plays bass on all songs on the US album.
Ozzy is doing the world renowned " I'm about to piss my pants at any given moment". This dance can be seen at any concert when the people are waiting to get into the bathroom.
Brad Gillis did a TREMENDOUS job stepping into a very difficult position at an extremely difficult time for the band. He had the ability and the respect to approach Randy's parts the way they need to be played. He usually doesn't get the credit he deserves for his time with Ozzy.
Randy and Jake...imo best two guitarist Ozzy has employed. Based on their technical abilities, knowledge and application of music theory, song writing, dynamics , phrasing and stage presence. Jake owned this song and Ultimate Sin recording. I miss JAKE!!!
Holy shit when did Gus G get in with Ozzy? :ooooooo Lul and people think Zakk Wylde or any previous Ozzy guitarist can compete with this guy? X'D He's like currently one of the best power metal guitarists out there if not the best. >.> Like he spits on Herman Li. Seriously. No disrespect to any of them they were gods in their time. -In they're time- but Gus G is a god in his time really. Compare Black Label Society to Firewind. :p
metalheadfureva How in three months has no one pointed out to you that Jake E Lee is so much better than Gus G? Gus G is okay with his speed and modes and shit but he doesn't have nearly as good a musical feel as Jake E Lee does.
