Ernst Jünger is a strange and contradictory figure in many ways. His early ideas helped inspire Nazism, but he despised the Nazi regime and Hitler in particular to the point that he aided in efforts to have him assassinated on at least one occasion; he was an officer in the Wehrmacht, but used his position to smuggle Jews out of Nazi-occupied France; by the time he met Hoffmann, he had become fascinated with Max Stirner and essentially become a very idiosyncratic anarchist, yet he also never gave up a lot of the weird hangups about masculinity and self-discipline which led to him becoming a career military man and a reactionary ideologue in the first place. All this is to say that Jünger is still a decidedly troubling figure in the history of psychedelia, and very much a useful counterexample to the traditional conception of the "psychonaut" as a progressive figure, but not in such a cut-and-dried way as, say, Manson or modern neo-Nazi accelerationists. …for the record, I'm mainly pointing this out because I legitimately just find Jünger a very interesting historical figure, not to "defend" him. Guy was real fucked up, but in, like, a fascinating way? Also, critical support to anyone trying to blow up Hitler. We stan blowing up Hitler.
@anarchoshulginist7515
@anarchoshulginist7515 2 года назад
Thanks for the context. I was only very superficially familiar with Jünger through "LSD mein Sorgenkind" where I found things that bugged me in regards to how relativizing both Jünger and (to lesser extent) Hofmann talked about Germany and it's very recent crimes. It wasn't very explicit and I pushed it aside as them being "ignorant bourgeois" or something. So I'm glad about the context, although it really irks me. I always had a soft spot for Albert since he's the father of psychedelic research in an academical sense, and well I'm a chemist, too. So it's easy to empathize for me in this regard. But also his weird spirituality always bothered me, it's probably time to say goodbye to good ol' Albert, Sasha Shulgin was a lot cooler anyway.
@ChillGoblin

Yes, I definitely did him a bit wrong in this, especially saying he was a member of the Nazi party which he never officially was. Whoops! Complicated guy. Seems he was all for Hitler and the Nazi party right up until the night of broken glass, which good on him for turning against them but also, pretty late in the game imho. Lots of discourse after the war on whether he was a collaborator, a fellow traveller, etc. But blowing up Hitler is an undeniably cool thing to try and do. Outside of the man himself, looking at his legacy, modern day psychedelic Nazis LOVE his writings and ideas. Many of his works have been recently translated into English by various psychedelic neo-fascists.
@ConvincingPeople
@ConvincingPeople 2 года назад
@@ChillGoblin To my understanding, Jünger's legacy is especially complicated in Germany due to his status as a highly respected novelist throughout his very long career, which was both a huge part of his relevance to the Nazis and a huge reason why he was mostly left alone after the war. He was apparently at one point marked for assassination by pro-Soviet partisans right after the end of the war, but was saved by a call from Bertolt Brecht telling them not to touch him, which says… *something.* Which honestly makes his appeal to the psych-fash even more apparent: He's the kind of figure they can project themselves on who also has the plausible deniability of actually being important and well-regarded outside of being a reactionary, with the added benefit of at least some of that importance being to a field traditionally perceived as progressive or counterculture.

That's awesome! Instead of falling for these obvious scams in the comments, try to find a clearnet shop that sells 1cP-LSD, which is a legal (depending on your country, but in most it still is) prodrug to LSD. That means while the substance itself has almost no activity on it's own, the body breaks it down to LSD. So it's basically a "legal" way to obtain acid. These substances ("Research Chemicals") are usually legal as long as they're not explicitly sold for human consumption, which makes them pretty easy to find and get on the internet. Whether you take my advice or not, stay safe!

yeah plenty of people just have “funny feelings” without all of culture coming crashing down around them. one person can take mushrooms and dissolve into the forest floor, while others will just sit on the forest floor and instigate their environment so that the trip is more interesting. it basically comes down to this distinction: are you HAVING a trip, or are you the trip? if you maintain that distance, then the social program will stay pretty rigid in your mind.

@zeroh7671
@zeroh7671 Год назад
You have to explore why that was occurring now outside of the trip and really deep dive into what in your life made your trip occur that way and what you can now do having identitied the source of the issue. That’s an e fr sky common bad effect “stuck int the loops “ and it’s almost always due to something in the individuals personall life making it go that way but it’s up to you and maybe aid of others you trust around to indeity what it is. That is if you haven’t already . Work on that through traditional means if you are so inclined then I personally suggest if possible undertaking a new trip with your new frameof mind and understanding and re-examine the instigation of the loops again and you’ll be able to successfully come to terms with the problem part you played and how you’ll grow forward and then truthfully leave it behind forever. That’s just my personal suggestion and I’ve seen it be of tremendous benefit to at least 3 separate individuals I can recall off top. But you must do the leg work outside of the psychs to study what it is that’s been going on with you thoroughly .

From my own personal experience, my first trip was instrumental in my own journey into Anarchism as well as, while not confirming my transness as that was pretty concrete, allowing me to see some patterns in my own behavior that kept me closeted. Meanwhile, someone who I began tripping with and shared many trips with took a deep dive into manosphere thinking. My personal feeling is that set and setting isn't just where we are or our mood. It also is who we are, our overall psychology, our broader personal struggles, our attitude towards the drug, and our security in our identity. I was 30, had traveled and spent years in therapy, and had both accepted myself as queer and trans and made the decision to walk away from an FSO job with the State Department that I'd prepared for my whole life after the election of Trump. He was 19, a sensitive boy who was shy around women and was absolutely surrounded by toxic, hypersexual and hypermasculine men. He was the poster child for the ideal manosphere recruit. He took way more than me as well, using it everyday and in far greater quantities, while I prefer to treat it more like a spiritual journey and would never take more than a tab. Someone on a trip is exploring their inner world, and while it can show us connections and regions we may be unaware of, they don't really change us in an overt way, but they do, subtly. We are still products of our environment and our experiences, and psychedelics just allow us to process those in a slightly different way and concretize them and feel them in a more uninhibited way. But that's just my feeling, and I'm not the most experienced psychonaut.

Yeah kinda, but I think experiencing the world as a child is the best description given in this video. You experience the world as if it's completely new to you, and every event and moment is significant. It also increases emotional significance, creative and magical thinking and more mental flexibility (it increases the brain's neuroplasticity a lot). So if a far-rightist would take a psychedelic and was in some way (non-combatively, by other people or their own doubts) challenged in their ideas, they might be more open to seeing things from another perspective than they'd usually be. But if there's no reason for them to reconsider their worldview during the trip (internally or externally), they might connect their profound experience to ideas they already held and so affirm their beliefs.

I love this video. I'm a daily user of multiple chems who hates hanging out with people who enjoy them a lot, because I hate the way some people act on them. They aren't magical, and it's very egotistical to think that they can change someone's entire life. I'm fascinated by pharmacology, and as a result I almost feel like the magical thinking associated with chems almost reduces the amazing things they can do to our brains by moving away from the complex science of how they work. I also want to say Mary Jane isn't a magical cure. It makes you feel good and may relieve pain, but it also has negative effects on anxiety for a lot of people and I'm so, so sick of stoners trying to push them on everyone as a fix for their problems. Also putting tar in your lungs is inherently not gonna be great for them, and yet I've seen people claim they can TREAT LUNG CANCER. It makes them look worse by using excessive hyperbolic claims of what benefits they MAY have and just allows others to dismiss users of them offhand, hurting our cause towards normalization and legalization of their use. The talk of ego death is so interesting to me as someone who has OSDD-1b. To be fair any kind of philosophy of the self is interesting because my “self” as it’s known is already fractured and spereated. My memory and self-history is often times shady at best and terrifyingly nightmareish at worst. Then you add other things to it like being Trans and heavily gender dysphoric. Having Body dysmorphia, And then being Other/Fictionkin adds onto it more. So the idea of being connected to one’s body is already strange to me, since I don’t really experience that in my day to day. The idea that most people are aware and like, connected to one’s flesh vessel feels so.. Alien in concept. Its a surprise when I can say I feel like Im living in my body during the day, when most other times when I think about it I feel like a Floating Brain in a Box. To me, how i externally express myself online is more true to who I am then whatever physical thing exists in the world that I pilot. My self exists more online and in how others perceive me then whatever Face im making irl. If anything, I get distressed when I acknowledge my physical form. Anyway im loosing my thread, I know theres more to “ego death” then just feeling disconnected from your body. Its also being more connected to the world around you and the people around you. Often times I feel defined by other people because of my poor memory, i constantly ask other people to double check if something happened. And sometimes the only time I know something happened is because someone else outside of myself pointed it out to me or told me about it. I remember other people telling me about something better then I remember it myself. I know its a mix of mutiple things but i guess I mention it because well, I need other people. I dont really,, exist properly in my own personal galaxy. I have a hard time perceiving my own emotions and actions, to me I am already defined by others because of stuff outside of my control. I dont know maybe im misinterpreting it and just used this as a excuse to overshare but the philosophy of the self is so,, alien to me because I kinda already live in a world where the “self” doesnt fully exist in the way most people talk about it.

My first acid trip (at 16, 1968) turned me from a socialist into a libertarian. Libertarians are usually considered to be, more or less, "right-wing." We Support property rights, the right to own & carry any kind of firearm, and minimal (ideally, NO) taxation. But we also support drug legalization, and consider any kind of sex, with consenting adults, to be OK. From a religious standpoint, this can be summed up by the Wiccan "Rede": "An' ye harm none, do as thou wilt!"

Ahhhh, this was such a great video and solidifies you as one of my favorite youtubers who deserves more subs! What's funny to me is that last month my fictional character Mu had her first acid trip, near some lakes, and then second shrooms wandering around the forest with my friends. She desperately wanted some great revelation out of it, but didn't really get any. What's interesting is that I am able to experience altered states without any psychedelics anyway - when relaxed and aligned with myself and it is usually spurred by joy and I do feel that incredible sense of connection to everything and everyone around me. But like this video brought some deeper understanding for me of the limits of psychedelic trips. The limit being your own internal universe. The mushrooms aren't speaking to you, it's just you speaking to you through another voice. And your mental plane has a border somewhere which you should work on to open up. This kinda cuts at the core of my deep frustration with spiritual people who have these awakenings but they are also limited and generic and not grounded in any way. They don't have depth or complexity. And so you have people like my buddhist ex or a former friend who are all about oneness and kindness and acceptance supposedly but don't consider sexism or racism or everything else to be problems. Moreover, my ex who loved psychedelics used spiritual concept to blame me and judge me, for having attachments or expectations, while I see former friends being all spiritual but believing in the divine feminine and divine masculine bullshit or are antivaxxers or fetishize nature. Maybe that's why Mu didn't have any revelations, because her own spirituality is about kindness and acceptance but it's always in a complicated relationship with social & economic realities and the two flow together. Sorry for the babbling, this was quite a provocative video.

Also for calling other ppl 'generic' you seem very basic yourself, the usual programmed litany of 'racism, sexism, etc.' at the forefront of your mind. Also it's perfectly consistent with Buddhist teaching to distance the self from perceived social problems (as those are actually egoic concerns) - you may not like it, but you can't say there's some kind of contradiction there. Take the advice yo have for others (which is good advice) and consider the limits of your own universe

Chemist here, lemon tek does not increase potency. Since the Psilocybin is an amine, it forms water soluble salts with acids such as citric acid (not LSD through, since that's not an acid chemically speaking). So basically you dissolve the active substances in water while also breaking down the cell structures, which releases more substance. So the plasma level/time curve is a lot higher and sharper than by eating the mushrooms where your body needs to break them down by itself. Its Kinda like comparing smoking bong with joints, where the former has a stronger rush and thus subjectively stronger effects than the latter. If you (or anybody else) has more questions, I'll try to answer them gladly. I'm a bit of a geek about drug/psychedelic chemistry and pharmacology

@@Reverend_Andrew well I'm a chemist and not an anthropologist or sth, I'm just interested in archeology and development of early Homo sapiens. So I can't provide any actual research on that I'm afraid, it just makes a lot more sense to me this way. Brewing beer is not something you do intentionally without knowing what is going to happen. They probably just tried making bread and the watery dough started brewing accidentally which produced alcohol. So by this point it's more probable that they already had chosen grain as a big or even main source of food intake. Also around 10.000 years ago the climate started to stabilize and bring about a new epoch, the Holocene, which provided the possibility to have a stable agriculture. It is my personal opinion, (and some researchers agreee with me) that beer was rather a byproduct of early civilization. Hey Boss, that ain't what the "manson family " was about. They weren't trying to start some race war helter skelter yada yada yada. The Tate and Labianca murders were drug related retaliation killings orchestrated by Tex Watson and carried out by Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten. Along with the retaliatory basis for the murders, a secondary motive was to stage a copycat crime scene that was intended to secure the release of Bobby Beausoleil, who had recently been arrested for the murder of Gary Hinman, a murder which was, of course, over drugs. The helter skelter conspiracy was the product of the fantastical imagination of Vincent Bugliosi and remains to this day, entirely fictitious.

This whole video basically just confirms, for me, my previous belief that I first came to upon discovering the QAnon Shaman's path to his belief structure. Psychedelics aren't necessarily a path to true, unmodified enlightenment, but rather a tool that can be used to teach you new modes of thought, *AND/OR* confirm and deepen preexisting belief structures. The case studies of the nazis who became even more entrenched in their nazi ideology as a result of taking psychedelics really highlights this; it's ALL about set and setting, as, it seems, if your set is already leaning into nazi ideology, and what you choose as your setting is, say, listening to Hitler's speeches, you'll come out of the experience understanding, *knowing*, that everything Hitler said was unequivocally the reality of this earthly plane.

Referring to the "new character" segment, the statements on expectations and seeing/feeling what you've been primed to are some of the most important with psychedelics. Trip reports and similar material can be helpful for people getting interested in the subject. However, they serve more to create an expectation than to explain the psychedelic experience in any concrete fashion. Essentially the two routes for undergoing psychedelic experiences while consuming trip reports is to either read so much that you come to the conclusion that "anything can happen" or just don't bother and go in knowing that anything can happen. No amount of trip reports will prepare you for the full experience, spiritual experiences can't be adequately communicated much like dreams. As for lemon tek, while there haven't been studies directly on lemon tek itself, there have been adjacent studies that illuminate the subject. The old hippie/internet wisdom goes that lemon juice or a similar acidic liquid will both release the alkaloids from the mushroom and convert the psilocybin to more readily active psilocin, with the added benefit of reducing "body load". There's no evidence that psilocybin is converted to psilocin by acid, it is done naturally by enzymes both in the mushroom and in the body of the user. Acid does help to break down the structure of the mushroom by dissolving things like chitin/chitosan more effectively, which would help rapidly release the alkaloids into the solution. A study that can be found by searching "oregon.gov stability of psilocybin" describes their most efficient extraction method as using an acid-methanol (not food safe) solution. All this goes to say, trust but verify. There's a lot of information out there about psychedelics that is considered old wisdom but is complete bunk. Keep in mind you're dealing with a bunch of blissed out hippies and internet nerds that think they can take what little chemistry they know about one drug and apply it to another or say things that just sound right and they found a dubious source. Terence McKenna's True Hallucinations is an excellent example of what can happen with educated, science-minded individuals with large amounts of psychedelics.

To expect that simply tripping or meditating will make us kinder and more caring is naive, especially in a world where oppression can take a lot more subtle and insidious forms - we don't have to be full-blown neo nazis or even slightly right leaning for our actions and beliefs to be causing active harm. Kindness and empathy are practices, which require continuous effort, education, action, and introspection. While psychedelics have the power to do is show is show us other dimensions of existence that lay dormant in our sober brains, they don't have the power to (nor do they care to) change our entire moral framework. That job is left for us. Man, it feels good to have someone verbalize your thoughts in a nifty video essay form - thanks for the video!

Totally agree, except depending on how you define morality I think animals have it too! Studies with monkeys and elephants show them helping one another even when they have nothing to immediately gain, so an innate sense of empathy and mutual aid may be a factor of evolution

15:00 amazing use of metatrons cube in visual connection with this web of anti connection fear embracing groups to illustrate your point of how easily people can misinterpret psychedelic mind states. That and the beginning with the tiger God thing and basically all the art throughout the video is truly amazing. I'm so glad you made this video because it's absolutely true, psychedelics bring you up into a heightened state of mind and dissolves your ego but like trying to Navagate a beautiful Forrest trail at night for the first time with no map or flashlight psychedelics can be equally as confusing and terrifying as the can be illuminating and clarity inducing. While I still believe that widespread legalization, use, research and demystification *would* help us in realizing and implementing policies to bring the world forward it still comes down to the age old "set and setting" along with intention, cliche in the psychedelic community, because it's true. They are just a tool after all like anything else and when used improperly or put in the hands of someone who doesn't know what to do with them or has I'll intent they can cause massive amounts of unessisary and potentially unexpected harm. Like learning to drive just to run people over, it's pretty ignorant to say if we just dosed everyone in the world weather they wanted it or not at some random time that it would bring us all together and not cause some kind of massive disaster. Or in other words nuclear power is amazing, nukes are not, but if have the knowledge and tools to make one you can generally speaking make the other, so it's important to make sure we focus on making sure they are legalized, researched, and used safely and effectively so we can metaphorically make "power plants" (no pun intended haha) rather than metaphical "nukes" like Qanon

Speaking as a psychologist, we know the at psychedelics increase open mindedness and empathy, which are the two ingredients besides knowledge that you would need to change you mind in a leftward direction. Without the knowledge you won’t get far, and you see plenty of people with more open mindedness and empathy who are fed the wrong facts. But without watching the video yet, I’m gonna guess it helps based on the fact that the facts are on our side.

Your Inception example 😅 I always thought the "I suddenly realised that everything is ONE!" epiphanies were funny - like, no shit I was taught that at school, remember the Big Bang? It makes sense as the therapeutic uses of hallucinogens seems to work by reordering your existing knowledge, rather than teaching you anything new. People take LSD & suddenly realise what their physics teachers were talking about that whole time & think it's God.

The baby brain part is really sticking with me in respect to my first and only major acid trip (psychedelics are hard to find, okay, and I'm a bit wary of shrooms because I don't like vomiting. Also this guy I knew told me I couldn't handle it and though he had a dealer and I had money, refused to get me shrooms. So yeah. Frequent trippers can be total sexist pieces of shit). I wouldn't say I regressed during my trip, but I definitely experienced some childish moments. I was convinced the edge of the bed was the end of the world and briefly was unreasonably frightened of the hall light which could be seen from a small window in our front door and thought that it was the eye of God. Now, obviously I knew both these things weren't true, even while under the influence, and yet for a time I totally believed them. It makes sense that it makes your brain more open and soft as a baby's in that regard. Despite those scary moments, it wasn't a bad trip. My boyfriend and I had fun, marvelled over a "magical" carton of orange juice that we were sharing that seemed to never run dry, I had the best shower of my life, and the closest thing we had to an epiphany was that we didn't want to play Pokemon because it was more important to focus on each other or some shit. I think we just couldn't focus. On a side note, yes, your surroundings can definitely affect the trip. We'd bought some for a roommate as well who had planned to trip with us at home. After taking it, he'd decided to go to the store really quick to get some snacks or something. Mind you, there was a convience store literally half a block away from our apartment. He never returned that night and we figured he'd ended up at a friend's house instead. The next morning he came back bloodied, having walked home from the police station downtown with some pretty intense stories of an exceedingly bad trip. I've always thought that psychedelics just made you...more able to see things in other ways, connect things more interestingly. Sure, it could facilitate a Leftist epiphany, but it could create epiphanies for a lot of things and I think with any deep, spiritual realization there has to be a root there. A seed. Just like the example of the "Jews brainwash it through the media" I wouldn't be surprised if that person either had an unhealthy opinion of television to begin with or thought that Jewish people had a considerable influence over mass media becasue "a lot of famous people are Jewish" (and not just that a lot of people are Jewish). Anw yeah, I really enjoyed the art and how insightful this video is. Kinda makes me wish they were legal in my state but alas.

I think maps isn't pushing for full decriminalisation for one reason above all: they want to be taken seriously by the authorities, and that will not happen if they push for taking power away from them. They're scientists, clinicians and lobbyists, not revolutionaries, protestors and radicals

Actually some people do think alcohol literally started civilization -- not Mike's Hard Lemonade, but beer. Some people think agriculture was invented to provide more feedstock for a beer-making process that had been developed for wild grains, and bread and cities came along for the ride.

Since when are we leftists agreeing with Monsanto on the idea that you can own a plant species? That's an absurd idea. Just because there was regional knowledge about the use of a plant does not confer ownership imho. I wholeheartedly agree that native practices must be protected and that we should put measures in place to make sure that local populations don't loose access to the plants they need due to over exploitation. But that plant species existed before us, and will likely exist long after we are gone. None of us can lay claim to that or claim exclusive use.

overall legalization would be swell, but I do believe in their therapeutic properties, however I find that the average person has to sift through so much of this woo woo nonsense that a lot of the information gets miscommunicated or lost. There need to be easy to understand guides to help people integrate their own experiences, on their own terms. I have a background in psychology and am an artist by trade and I've thought about writing about somatic practices that would be useful for integration, but I've just been so busy with work. As far as mushrooms go, I started growing them last year but actually gourmet/medicinal kinds with mixed results. Bioremediation work looks cool for the further future of this funky little bean. It seems like psychedelics, more than anything, are instant radicalization. Towards what is entirely up to the user. I've never done psychedelics, but I *have* had 2 psychotic episodes. Besides not experiencing hallucinations, the experience seems so similar to a psychedelic one that I have to wonder. After the first one, I got hardcore into the occult and flirted with conspiracy. I truly believed I had died and come back to life, because well, that's what it felt like. After the second one, and noticing that it was preceded by similar factors, I realized that this was not magic and that there had to be more going on. My mindset shifted back towards a purely scientific/materialist view (thank goodness)

I strongly doubt the mindstate of a psychosis is very similar to that of a psychedelic trip, even if they share some elements. Never had a psychotic episode, but from what I've read they sound really different than the trips I or people I know have experienced. I've heard deliriant drugs are closer to psychotic symptoms though. To clarify, there are three classes of hallucinogenic drugs, that work differently and have different effects: psychedelics (like shrooms and lsd), dissociatives (like ketamine and DXM), and deliriants (like dartura).
