“Pathupattu” and “Ettuthogai” are two important collections of the Sangam age poems in Tamizh. “Kalithogai” is one among the “Ettuthogai” collection, which mentions of “Pandarangam” as one of Lord Shiva's “Thandavas” (dance of passion and intensity).
The same is mentioned in Silappathikaram also, as one of the 11 forms of Natyam performed by Madhavi, the great dancer from the ancient times. Shiva, after scorching down Tiripura to ashes, performs a dance greasing his body with the ashes. The philosophical angle to this is that we should never be arrogant since we are all going to be burnt to ashes one day
