I remember that my mom let me skip school that day so we could go see the flyover instead of being stuck at school and hearing about it on the news. I still clearly remember how that day was like, and I guess that's one advantage of having an ex-AF mom that loves aircraft!

This is so cool. I was on the ground on the Mall looking up as these planes flew over. The next day I flew on B-29 FiFi, the day after, B-17 Aluminum Overcast and the B-24. Very honored to being able to do that and grateful to those people that work so hard to keep these planes flying and the history alive!!

I built a B-29 AIRFIX model when I was a wee lad, even the model was huge comparing to the other AIRFIX models I had hanging from the ceiling. Great to see these planes still flying. And what an important role they have played in the history. GREAT VIDEO!

Every year at the drag races in Bakersfield California a P-51 would come down the drag strip at 500 miles an hour to start the race. To see something that close and loaded the ground going 500 miles an hour is a real treat.

I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to be in the war and not have your friends in other B-17’s not return. I’ve been fortunate to have flown in Nine-O-Nine so very many times. The day it crashed I was to be on that aircraft, along with my two brothers. My flight from Phoenix to Bradley was so very late and we never flew. It was devastating to me not just for the horrible loss of life but for the Nine-O-Nine. I was so glad to have been one of the sponsors with my name right under the co-pilot’s window. RIP to those aboard that day in October and RIP to my friend the Nine-O-Nine.

I was a crew member on B17 s when I was in the Air Force in New Mexico in the 3225th drone Squadron. They were equipped to fly by remote control and used as missile targets. For faster targets, they used old F80s with T33's as the mother ship. The nearest city was Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Fantastic to see. I love watching the WW2 survivors flying. We have the Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane doing fly bys in the UK. I live 3 miles from Polebrook UK where the 351st bomb group were based and I can imagine the sky full of B17s going to and from missions. I still visit the old airfield site and the memorial.

I'm 75 so I'm not part of the "can do" generation but it would be difficult to overstate my admiration of my parents and other people of their generation who designed and build things - including machines to do things that had never been done before -without the use of computers or even electronic calculators. I fear that people who have grown up with those mental crutches will never have the mental acuity of the can do generation.

My father in law flew B-24s in WW2 when he was in his early 20s. He said it was like flying a dump truck. He said B-24s were a handful and notorious for wanting to wallowing all over the sky, especially when they were loaded and in up in thin air. He said the scariest part was simply trying to stay in formation and not run into the planes around them that were also struggling to stay in formation. Like most WW2 vets, he's gone now, passed away in the '90s.

I agree. B-17s were my favorite aircraft (especially the G) as a kid in the '60s, due to seeing them in movies and TV shows like "12 O'clock High". Also the fact my parents and my friends' parents were all of the WW2 generation, many of them veterans of the war, hearing them talk and tell their stories of those days was a big influence in my formative years. I'm sure it had a lot to do with why I ended up in the USAF on various jets including B-52s in the '70s and '80s.

All of these beautiful airplanes! I would LOVE to see one mass formation with all of them at the same time including the biwing planes. That would be SO awesome.

Was cool seeing all the planes. They were just missing the O-2’s.
