A vintage video from P&O showing Aurora, one of P&Os most loved vessels. At the time that this video was posted (2022) she was still operating as an adults only vessel. #cruiseship #cruising #pocruises #aurora
In my humble opinion the Aurora is the finest real ship afloat. Perfect size and handles heavy seas well. I did a half world tour from Brisbane to Southampton and enjoyed every second. I travelled alone in a window cabin overlooking the rear pool. I forget my cabin number although 1403 pops into my mind. It was a long time ago. We spent around 4 days laid up in Auckland while a propeller shaft thrust bearing was replaced. P&O paid for some sight seeing tours. I think maybe I was among the few who actually enjoyed the unexpected Kiwi holiday. Despite the breakdown we still arrived in Southampton on time. IMHO the Aurora should still be sailing well into the future. There's nothing afloat to match it!
Hi, Thanks for your comments. My family and I sailed on Aurora many times and I must agree that she is a 'proper' cruise ship. Let's hope she keeps sailing for many more years to come.
We got this vhs tape posted to my mums house just after they booked a cruise in 2002 when i was 11 and now im 31 and im going back on p&o aurora this march for 12 nights to Norway. Plus i have the worlds largest vintage p&o cruise ship collection. Thankyou so much for bringing back so many happy memory's. I was the only kid that escaped the playgroup green nets.
Hi, my kids were a similar age when they first cruised on Oriana in 1996. They spent all their time in Decibels (the kid's play area.) Unfortunately they both caught the cruising bug and my daughter actually ended up being married on a cruise ship (Oceana) a couple of years ago. Thanks for your comments and enjoy Aurora.
Totally entertaining and enthralling to watch this. It shows how far cruising has come since the time where everyone dined in bow ties, and dishes like Rack of Lamb and Croque Monsieur were seen as a selling point to potential cruisers!
Was on the Maiden Mini Cruise to Biscay and back because of the shaft bearing issue. However we’ve had another 5 fabulous cruises on Aurora since.Still looks like a ship compared to the floating apartment blocks that are the new ships.Much preferred Aurora to Oriana at that time and my niece had her wedding on Aurora so happy memories.Always made me laugh P&Os promotional films always had about 8 passengers mostly the same people.Nice to see some of the old crew like Steve Bourgogne driving and Alistair Clarke as DC.Even Sally Holyoake (an authentic passenger )using the ketchup machine
Thanks for your comments. We also had many happy cruises on Aurora and Oriana. We did have a soft spot for Oriana though as it was our first P&O cruise and our kids made many friends onboard. However, I think Aurora was a better ship (it didn't vibrate as much lol) We have recently sailed on Arvia and Iona and, although I agree with you they do look like floating apartment blocks, we had a great time onboard both. Cruising has changed considerably since the 'old days', at least P&O keep the British feel onbaord.
@@scottydog58 it has indeed changed my first cruise was in 1967 when I was 8 and I’ve seen such an evolution in cruising since some for the better but on the whole for the worse
Our first cruise was on Oriana in 1996 and we have very fond memories of her as well. Aurora was a more modern ship and didn’t have a vibrating restaurant (lol) but both were great and we had lovely times on both. Thanks for your comments, keep on cruising
