This song was written during a lock down at Santana High School (santee,ca) for an active shooter situation. I was at that school that horrific day, standing right next to the bathroom where the shooter was. Frozen, couldn't move watching people getting shot. Thank god for a girl I didnt know grabbing me and pulling me into a classroom while we waited for swat to come get us. I didnt run, I just stood there frozen. This song helps me 18 years later get through tough times that NEVER go away.. no matter how much counseling ,years that pass, the memories and panic never go away. Love this song.

Wanna give some extra backstory: This song was inspired by a real-life shooting. The band was recording a few blocks away from Santana High School when the shooting occurred there in 2001. They had seen the emergency vehicles driving past while on a break, but it hadn't clicked until they had seen it on the news. Great reaction, Rude!

I know you meant your comment in a positive light, but there aren't different "races" and the comment about "white boy" music is insanely cringey, especially considering this band had a black dude playing bass, and the other three members are predominantly of Hispanic descent.

I remember when this song dropped in 2001 and my kids (who were 10 & 14) loved it, but they didnt really understand the lyrics until i explained it to them, then it took on a whole new meaning. Unfortunately its just as relevant today as it was nearly 20 years ago.

I’d say it’s even more relevant now that it was when it came out, sadly. Tragedies like columbine we’re UNTHINKABLE at that time. People thought that you had to be a middle-aged adult with issues to do something so horrifying. Instead it was two pissed off teenagers with issues, who didn’t give a damn about human life, even with those of their own.

This song came out when I was 18 yo and it has such a dark nostalgia to me. I lost 3 friends in 2001, 9/11 happened and consumed everything, caused sadness, vulnerability, fear of another attack to the fear of another draft. I was ready to graduate and just move on to begin real world life but at same time just wanted to hide out somewhere and escape it all. This song had healthy radio time around christmas break in 01 and I was so glad, I think it was that escape I needed. Great reaction btw and please continue discovering new music your good at observing lyrics and bringing song meaning up front.

Im almost 50, I'm no expert on modern music, but it seems like there was a lot more music with social messages in the late 90s and early 2000's than there is today? Am I wrong? Point me in the right direction, I love exploring new music, have my whole life. Help. I was a rock music and metal head, recognized I was essentially self segregating because I was just listening to the stuff my friends liked , in my teens Ice T by doing his metal band Body Count along with making some black freinds got me to cross over and check rap, and I started with Ice T - OG, NWA learned the power of the message in the music. Seems like today there's a lot of superficial bs, I wanna find the substance, Billie Elish is about as close as I've gotten, are there any new young band, or rap acts talking about serious stuff and making incredible music?

No it is not about school shootings you silly boy. It is about all the trials and tribulations of being young and faced with life changing choices that have a direct profound impact on everything you do, and not having the experience of making a hard choice on your own, Then reaping the severe consequences of that choice you made. Example: In the song the singer says that he wishes he would of told his parents of all the loved they shared and kissed his mother goodbye... A hard choice he made to go through a "routine" not realizing the hidden consequences of not being alert and attentive of your surroundings, As there was a "strange" kid in the class. You MUST be way more competent then what you has been handed to you!

@JuggyFWB

It's about school shootings, but it's about *more* than that as well. School shootings, extreme and early promiscuity, depression and suicide. It's about an entire generation that felt lost, abandoned, and confused. School shootings are one aspect of that there were mentioned.
@joejones6968
@joejones6968 4 года назад
@@jenod3049 no it is not, there are several different instances the lead singer gives..For example, when Johnny boy shot himself, did he do it in school? Told the world how he felt with sound of a gat...Am I right? What about the girl having sex with everybody? And her daddy should have told her she deserves much better? Did he do it in school? This song is about being alert and attentive, being able to handle your own choices with out extreme consequences...perhaps you should educate yourself there dude...

I'm a rock guitarist in my 50's and P.O.D. was always in my CD collection in my car. The way they tell a story has a lot of impact when combined with the choice music they serve up with it. It has always amazed me how such bands and musicians are so overlooked for cookie-cutter music pumped out by the major labels. A good example is, funk-rock guitarist Nuno Bettencourt from the band Extreme (who has been playing for Rhianna since 2009). An utterly amazing musician with his own flare that only barely ever got mentioned by the media back in his prime. Ughh..

Man, I remember coming up in Junior High and Highschool ('77-'83). We NEVER heard or saw any firearms. Fists took care of business...maybe a knife or a 2 by 4...and that was RARE. Then, a decade later, kids were goin to school "strapped." Hell, we carried shotguns cased on the bus and to school and left em in our lockers because we'd go squirrel or rabbit hunting after being dismissed for the day. Whew...then the world went to waste. Kids usually haven't been "scared" enough with any "near-death" experiences to feel the "permanence" that death brings...in a lot of instances anyway. That's just my opinion though. At that age, we all think we're invincible. It's very much different nowadays. A lot of kids grow up with death all around them now...and that's a shame. We as parents, and elders, have failed our young ones in that area. We all should have done, or do, better.

This type of music is called Nu Metal. Was very popular back in the late 90s, 00s. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, P.O.D

I remember the joy i got from a POD cd and my friends were impressed the way i snapped it in half, melted the edge and stuck it to my basement wall. It looked like someone threw it into the cinderblock.

The genre is new metal. The band is the absolute best (IMO) Christian band to cross over into the mainstream. Great reaction. This is the first video I have seen on your channel. Just subbed. #StayHomeStaySafe #Leronlimab

Great reaction!! It's sad that a song almost 20 years old is still relevant today...it shows how good a song is I guess
