So the guy who plays prince Chad plays a new role in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as an immortal warlock bartender and every damn time I see him I just say "DONT. DO THIS CHAD. " in an exasperated way and I can't help myself
I can't believe the second movie came out in 2017, I feel like I've been hearing about it for like 5 years. It IS like a fever dream! I don't understand why they started the movie with a song about how bad they all were when, A: The whole point of the first movie was that they weren't going to be bad anymore B: Most of the characters in the number were never bad to begin with??? Was she hallucinating? I thought she was just really overwhelmed by all the dancing that just happened! Ah! That makes so much more sense. (I say, as though hallucinations should have been my first guess.) Carlos was hinting so hard that he wanted Jay to take him to this dance, and Jay was like, "NOPE!" Is he though? Does liking women make him a heterosexual? Because he's still clearly into Jay. "We'll be the laughing stock of the league!" Because she's a girl? None of you even seemed to realize she was a girl until she took her helmet off??? Mal is being possessed by demons. Sarah's face is how we should all be reacting to Chad's creepiness. Captain Hook was born that way, and so was Harry! Maybe they did go to Party City. That whole scene actually looks like it could have been a Party City commercial. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE MAGIC WAS BAD! Especially considering the things she used it to do, dying her hair, learning to cook, and learning to read faster. I feel like there's an ableism metaphor in there somewhere. (Or maybe he’s just concerned because it’s “gateway magic.”) Kenny Ortega dropping some references to his High School Music days. She does have imposter syndrome, poor Mal. I didn't like Harry either. Mal is like Chandler, she doesn't understand how relationships work. Now she must propose. SHE DOES HAVE SUCH A CRUSH ON EVIE! Okay, cool. It's not just me. Everyone should have a mural of Paige on their wall. These are definitely the gayest movies ever to cry "no homo." I'm all about strong female friendships. They can be friends who are also queer, not necessarily together, but still queer. Uma is cute! I'm glad Sarah was there to explain how tops and bottoms work. I also know how tops and bottoms work, but it's always nice to be reminded. Harry does have two hands. He's probably a lizard or something. Seriously, Prince John gets a son in the sequel. (Or Chad gets a paternity test.) "Bippity Boppity!" same. Mal's dress looks like my elementary school colors threw up. Yeah, I feel like they acknowledged at some point that they all came from the island, just like Uma did, and that Mal and her friends all started the same way. (Except they still held it against her?!?) The original kids spent the entire first movie trying to steal the wand. But white Mal gets a redemption and the love of her white prince, while WOC Uma gets screwed over (just like the WOC in the first movie who got in the way of Ben and Mal.) Also, Mal's change in alignment had a lot to do with the influences she got during her time at Auradon, (and obviously the opportunity to go there in the first place.) Uma could easily have gone the same way if she had been given that chance, but instead, she was cast as a villain… My eyes turn blue when I have panic attacks. It's really cool, the kids love it. "I know a girl who would really like to come to Auradon" Dizzy was cute and everything, but of course they chose to save the white girl. "Second chances" if you're a white girl. Uma deserved love. I support strong female friendships. Everything Paige had to say about friendship. (Like you two! You have a strong female friendship that filmmakers could learn things from!) Also, ME! Because I love both of you.
I don't know if Carlos knows just how into Jay he is yet. But you're right; he is VERY into Jay. Chad is the WORST. I HATE HIS GUTS. The whole "magic is banned/useless" thing makes no sense. It's just a lazy way for them to punish magic users overall, rather than, ya know, teach them how to harness magic and use it for good. Everyone SHOULD have a giant mural of me! I'm awesome!
Yeah, I noticed the Sherwood Forest thing! The Robin Hood school for non-royals would make sense for Chad. Being Prince John's son, one might expect him to be attending the Sherwood Forest school, but since that would also make him royal, they just called him Cinderella's kid and sent him to Auradon. (Except being Prince John's son would also make him the son of a villain. I don't know, maybe he's the son of Cinderella and Prince John and it's kind of a "Warren Peace" situation.) I'm putting way too much thought into Chad's existence. Mulan isn't "technically" royalty, but she is an "official" Disney princess so Lonnie could get by, but Doug also attends Auradon. Ah, I had no idea Dizzy was played by an Asian actress! Uma definitely deserved better, but I really should have fact checked with Dizzy. Also, I should admit that I didn't realize that Ben did eventually try to offer Uma those opportunities. (I must have turned into a dragon at that part. If I'm going to make a criticism, I should probably do so with actual facts.)
SO GLAD you watched this! I can't tell how much of it was intentional but I though it was a lovely commentary about how much women in 'hetero' relationships are expected to change to suit her mate and do so perfectly. It wasn't enough that she be perfect in 6 months but that she did so all on her own and the magic she did use was mostly memory tricks or things to otherwise fit in. As IF Ben! Not for nothing both Dove & China totally mused on the idea that Uma and Mal were exes, hence the greater animosity.
Ok so, Mal used magic to steal Ben from Audrey in the first movie but we were still supposed to root for her. Then Uma uses magic to steal Ben from Mal... and we're still supposed to root for Mal??? So, either way, the white girl is supposed to get what she wants at the expense of a woman of color? Ok. Also Uma and Dizzy are adorable, Carlos and Jay belong together, and Booboo Stewart is still way too pretty to be on Disney Channel.
And Uma was actually trying to get rid of the barrier so she and her friends could have a better life while Mal on the other hand was trying to get rid of the barrier so Kristen Chenoweth could have her revenge. They did Uma dirty tbh.
Right?! I wasn't even that upset about how they treated Audrey in the first movie until I saw how they did Uma. Her (Audrey) boyfriend announced his love for a girl he just met in front of everybody after essentially being roofied with magic and completely humiliated her. Uma does the exact same thing and NOW it's gross and terrible because we're supposed to like Mal but I really don't care for her at all.
LadyGrinningSoul Sis shut up. I don't know where y'all be getting the Uma wants a better life storyline from because it was stated several times in the fucking movie she wanted to take over. She wasn't just some innocent girl that was done dirty she was evil and is probably still evil. And wanted to take over Auradon to get revenge on mal and prove that she was the baddest of them all. And being a person of color myself y'all stupid asf. This had nothing to do with race stop trynna sound fake woke its not cute sis. It wasn't that serious to bring race into 🤷🏾♀️
No one's trying to sound fake woke. We were just having a discussion about the mixed messages the movies seem to be giving. You don't have to agree, but I don't appreciate being told to shut up or being called stupid especially over something as trivial as my opinion of a DCOM. It was very rude and uncalled for. And like you said, it's not that serious.
Chad is the real villain of the movie.Kenny Ortega Disney movies are just destined to have very obvious double lavender relationships.Ryan and Kelsi were both obviously gay now it's Carlos and Jane.
I've been waiting for you guys to watch Descendants 2! I enjoyed Chad a lot in the beginning because I straight up thought they were going to reveal that he and Jay were boyfriends (Jay wasn't taking a girl to the dance, Chad was somehow in their room at night, etc.), but that went nowhere. Also Uma. Uma forever. She actually addressed how all the other kids on the isle of the lost were sorta just... forgotten about once Ben and Mal hooked up.
OMG, the second you said, "Her hair reminds me a lot of Kat Blaque," I swear I just thought the SAME THING! She does that mermaid thing often. I wish I could be Pat Carroll all the time, too. :)
Kara Saun, the costume designer, actually tweeted that her braids are supposed to mimic tentacles because her mom is Ursula but like. Both works in my opinion XD We all want to be Pat Carroll at some point. She's a gem -- P
The dude who plays Harry Hook went to primary and secondary school with me and seeing 13 year old girls fawn over him on fan accounts is the weirdest shit ever
Descendants is canon actually it doesn’t go against canon Descendants star Dove Cameron and author Melissa de la Cruz sat down for an in-depth interview about the series and explained just how everything works together. "I was informed very early on...by the head of Disney Channel, Gary Marsh, that the reason this project has taken so long was because Disney Corporate had to approve of somebody officially embellishing on the original stories, because that is what we're doing," Dove explained. "Anything else, like Once Upon a Time, hasn't actually been an official embellishment on the story," she continued, "We. Are. Canon." Descendants was actually the first time Disney was officially touching the classic tales of their movies. "That's why it took so long, because apparently, Disney corporate was like 'That's a terrible idea, we don't want to mess with the original stuff.' And so [Gary] told me that. He was like, 'This is the first time that this is ever going to happen.'" Dove adds, "Disney Channel is it's own thing, it's own beast, so to be told you're involved in the classics is like, there's nothing more delicious than that. I think that's why we're all so invested in the series and the franchise itself because it's the first time!" "It's the deepest honor, so for me, it was less nerve-wracking and the most delicious opportunity."
I don't know why you didn't mention it in the first video for Descendants 1 , but there is a girl in a wheelchair who shows up in the background of a couple scenes but doesn't do anything. Which is fine, but casting her felt like the directors were trying to be diverse but our main characters are all white (except Jay). So they casted Audrey as a brown girl. And in the 2nd movie Ursula's daughter Uma is black because we have to be diverse even if it doesn't make sense! >_
3:50 Even if you don't like Harry that much, would you want him in the 3rd movie so we could have at least one villain couple after all the hero couples? I mean, Harry and Uma could be the first couple in the entire DCOM franchise who show any indication that they have a sex life!
Uma and Mal are exes. Mal and Evie are girlfriends. I don't really want Harry in a relationship with anyone until he learns how not to treat people like sacks of meat. But maybe that's just me -- The Princess
True, true. But then again, Harry just does whatever Uma tells him to with next to no complaining, I think she's the only one who has any control over him so it could still work - and for the safety of everyone within a 10 feet distance of Harry it's probably necessary that it continues that way! Plus, aside from looking like he's parched when he's looking at her or being unable to take his eyes off her, he sees that she is obeyed and respected by those around her, and she's basically the only person in existence he doesn't treat like a sack of meat. I think that, as far as he's mentally and emotionally capable of caring for someone, he cares about her, which would probably make him the only person in Uma's whole life who has actually cared about her, you know what I mean? I adore Ben because he's so trusting and compassionate, but it would be nice to see a bit more Mal and Evie.
That’s the sad part about Descendants. You’d have to understand and read the books to understand what’s going on in the movies, which is INCONVENIENT. But hey, what can you do accept laugh at it???
This is to hilarious 2:45 This is not creepy at all I just came to use your 3D printer how did you get a key to my room I just printed it last time while you were sleeping. just so I can watch you sleeping at night and be a crappy stalker
okay Paige next time you include comment screenshots in your video LET ME KNOW SO I CAN MAKE A COMMENT TO BE IN THE VIDEO. I'm gonna make it my 2018 goal to be featured on the Princess & the Scrivener tbh
I’m sorry but no one can convince me that Mal is straight. She doesn’t even have to be a lesbian, she can be bisexual or pansexual but she ain’t straight. She and Uma were an item a long time ago. No one can convince me otherwise.
Dove Cameron's been all over Malvie and Mal/Uma ( I admittedly don't know what their ship name is?) on Twitter and I've been living for it! -- The Princess
You guys didn't really think we *weren't* going to watch it, did you? The Scrivener's favorite song: What's My Name The Princess's favorite song: Chillin' Like a Villain
Maybe Ben's over-enunciation on the "Don't. Do. This. Chad." was because the actor that plays him, Mitchell Hope, is from Australia and he has to focus to get the American accent right.
nine.circles it was never shot. The actors did that off camera. It was never written into the script. Which in and of it self is problematic because they actually do kiss in the book.
I have never seen these movies, but from the giant decals on the Disney Store's windows, I had assumed that Uma was Davey Jones' daughter. All I could think was, "alright WHO DIDDLED THE SQUIDMAN."
Yeah she's not in the first one anyway, which is why she takes up so much space on a lot of the ads (that and she's the villain of the movie) XD I'd still like her if she were Davey Jones' daughter, which would make just a tiny bit more sense because she runs a pirate crew, but honestly I'm not mad that she's Ursula's daughter either. Also LOL THAT'S THE FUNNIEST SENTENCE I'VE READ ALL DAY-- The Princess
it was me....i diddled the squidman. I'm squidboisexual and im valid. Actual DILF Davy Jones. (i feel the need to clarify that i was joking on the off chance that i become famous and/or a domineering Lord of the Earth in the future then i can avoid getting publicly outed as a tentacle fetishist. Which wouldn't be good. Kinky as all hell. But not good. Lol.)
I absolutely loved the friendship between the four mains. Found family is my favorite trope ever and their's was so pure and genuine. Throughout both movies we see all of them being there for each other, not just certain pairings like the girls and the guys. All of them, together as a family protecting eachother and calling eachother family. Thats my shit and they gave it to me.
I've just realised who Gil looks like - any one of those triplet blondes who were always fawning over Gaston. Now I wonder, if Gil has 2 older brothers, could they in fact be his half-brothers and half-cousins?
agenttheater5 Gil does have two brothers, they’re either older or he’s a triplet. But he has two brothers named Gaston Jr and Gaston the Third. Info from the books
@@2wingo In any case it'd be a little gross, having a kid with all three sister - I wonder if they all knew about it from the start or if they didn't know till they all found out they were pregnant, if it indeed happen like that.
I really like that you guys liked the second movie so much. These movies are big guilty pleaseures of mine and I love both of them (bad stuff and all) I must say though, I love the second one more. Uma stole the whole thing for me because her character is GENUINELY interesting. One of my favorite scenes is the scene where she and Ben talk on the ship. At first I thought Dude talking would be cringey, but within 3 lines, I was sold. "Does anyone have any bacon?...Cookies?" haha. I really like that Lonnie made more sense in this one, being Mulans daughter and all, it makes sense for her to want to fight as she was too Princessy in the last one. Chad.......had better hair in the first one? (Hate the prick) "DONT DO DIS CHAAAAD!" All the new characters are great (Especially Dizzy), and the music and dancing was brilliant (ESPECIALLY since there is no cringey cover like Be Our Guest). Overall, what really holds it together and why so many people dig these movies in spite of their flaws, are the main 4 characters. It's just really good to see them escape their crappy lives and still be good people through it all. Glad you guys reacted again and we'll see you on the next one :) PS 2:50 - 2:53 My reaction also. Seriously, what the genuine fuck? PPS The comments about her drawing skills at 5:27 were savage as holy fresh hell XD
Both movies had interesting concepts and characters, but the forced heteronormativity (and anti-magic stance????) is what bogs them down to me. Some cheesiness for it being a Disney Channel movie can be forgiven.
Disney Channel forcing heteronormity is probs because they don't want angry Christian moms writing angry letters and blocking DC at their houses. That's what happened with the lesbian couple on Good Luck Charlie and the concert scene in Star Vs The Forces Of Evil. Angry Christian moms = less money for DC and DXD.
I don't know if you guys know but about Mal's note to say that she was leaving Auradon, the note was just "Evie, I am so sorry" written whit a blue pen, and I seem to find that really relevant
you are gonna flip when you find out who male father is. really against disney canon. fun fact: dove cameron was told by disney that descendants is infant disney canon. the writers should have explain better that the villains who died was sent to the isle as punishment, but a had to prove they were worthy of a second chance. anyway your gonna laugh when you find out who he is. hint he's old
Well this was astoundingly entertaining. Thank you once again for allowing my curiosity to be appeased without actually watching these movies. XD I DO have a soft spot for the costumes in this series though.
Kara Saun of project runway fame designed them and has been posting details on her instagram of some of them. They're ASTOUNDING pieces of work - instagram.com/kara_saun/
I mean... "...while the little ones play on the floor with the dogs! Oh, we'll have six or seven." "Dogs?" "No, Belle! Strapping boys! Like me." So I'm not surprised XD -- The Princess
@@agenttheater5 I am even LESS surprised by that now that you say that. Probably has at least two for each bimbette and oooooooooh noooooooooo whhhhyyyyyy did this mini franchise make me goooooooo ttthhherrrreeee
3:13 Harry just carries the hook around because when he was a kid he tried to get the crocodile (or at least a crocodile) to bite his hand off but it just ignored him. Am I the only one who thinks that he could do with a few sessions with a therapist or a psychiatrist?
I totally agree with what Paige said about not liking the way Uma came to the ship. The writing was terrible. They didnt keep up with any of the plots.
"Oh look, Captain Hook's son also has a hook." Lol that was my exact thought too when I watched this. My nieces are obsessed with these movies so I've seen them a lot. My fave part was obviously the very gay song Mal and Evie shared.
My only complaint is, why do the villains suck at naming their kids?? Gaston legit names his kids, Gaston Jr, Gaston the third, and Gil Hook had Harry Hook, CJ, and Harriet(which is a decent name) Maleficent named her kid Mal?? WHY DO THEY SUCK AT NAMING?!?
Maleficent named her kid Maleficent actually, but she didn’t allow her to use until until she proved her mother she was evil enough. That’s why she’s called Mal.
You know.... I actually did not even mean for it to be a dick joke XD I was mostly just referencing how uncreative the kids names are because they're all like American ripoffs of the original/parent character names. But wow XD Now that you say it, I see it too! -- The Princess
