This is not a VID, it’s a movie. Great cut. Concerning your tires, you might consider MITAS E7. They also have a version with harder sightwall. But changing tires with a hard sightwall is a pain. Looking forward to part 4. In a few months ;-)

Hello from Germany, it's time to say thank you for your great videos and tell you how much I enjoy your clips. Especially in these times when the urge to travel far away remains unfulfilled, you convey the illusion of traveling with you. In 2017 I did a 4 month tour through the US and Canada, coast to coast to coast, and it was the best bike tour I've ever had. Good luck and stay safe... Stefan

What a good video, beautiful landscapes!! Funny and happy to see an Argentine compatriot around those sides. $ 220 a night ??? I already felt poor just looking at the menu (I chose the same burger) haha. More now with the crisis of the moment here in Argentina, the same hamburger in an expensive place would cost $ 4, but maybe I would pay the extra to try the best waffles fries haha Meanwhile I continue to equip my Himalayan, I hope you can make a video about how the accessories worked for your motorcycle on the trip. Waiting for the fourth part, abrazos!
@KARMAkazeMoto
@KARMAkazeMoto 4 года назад
You had the same burger? Good choice! 🍔😀 That was a serious hunk of meat. I always figure on those long trips it's best if I overeat so that I have plenty of energy to stay warm through the night. I think an accessory overview/update is a great idea. I'll do it. 👍 In what ways have you equipped your Himalayan so far? Any plans to ride it to Alaska?
@hfdark1579
@hfdark1579 4 года назад
@@KARMAkazeMoto I mean, I chose the same burger by looking at the menu haha. I never went to Alaska yet. So far the most important, change the windshield for a larger and fully adjustable one, it is excellentI, also put on some custom givi-style engine protectors, thanks to your recommendation of the 3 anchor points, side luggage rack, hand guards, some small protectors and and a small button for the hazard lights (like plug and play). And planning a custom rear rack because I broke the original 3 times and I want to add some electronics but I haven't decided which ones yet. If you are curious about any or how the bike looks, I can send you a photo on facebook or instagram haha The idea of traveling to Alaska by motorcycle grows more and more, my old man lives in Wisconsin, so it would also be a nice idea to make a detour and visit him. For the moment I planned to visit places that I dont know in Argentina and visit Bolivia again. I'll see when the border situation normalizes, for the moment I still can't leave the city :(. Great video/movie as usual, thanks. Always worth waiting for. On bears; spent 21 yrs working the Central Coast of BC on salmon management. Walking streams counting salmon we always had to be on the lookout for grizzly & black bears. I carried a 12 guage with 6 slugs which hopefully would keep me real high on the food chain. LOL Never had to shoot a bear but wound up with lots of scary bear stories to tell! Usually the bears were more interested in the thousands of salmon in the stream than skinny old me. Cheers from B.C.
@KARMAkazeMoto
@KARMAkazeMoto 4 года назад
Thanks for the great feedback Vern. 21 years on salmon management? Quite a life. Sounds like you've had more than your fair share of fresh, coastal air. 🙂 Yeah, it's nice when you have those salmon around to keep the bear occupied! But when their only choice is between a blueberry or me... I get more concerned. 😆 Thanks again and get ready for Part 4. Out on Friday. Some slower talking parts, but some really fantastic scenery and riding too.

Excellent video! I've travelled extensively all over the place but driving the Dalton in February 2002 was one of the greatest trips of my life. I had some work to do at pump station 4 on the pipeline (just north of the Brooks Range on the coastal plain), so we took 2 4x4 pickups, survival gear and headed out. We had a few hours of day light and it was the most spectacular scenery you could imagine. Looking forward to the next part. FYI, you follow the same defense approach as me (noise, spray, shoot). I also have those Alaskan rounds in 454 Casul and they are like a freakin shotgun slug!

Very nice! You've got a lot of beautiful country in your backyard to ride through. Did my first trip to Montana last Summer, primarily stuck to the Glacier national Park area. Spectacular place. My wife owns a small home near downtown Missoula, though I've never been. Maybe we'll end up retiring to that area someday. But anyway, you're not too far off, so maybe one week to ride on up and another week to head on back, taking a different route so that it's a nice loop. 3 weeks would be even better so you have more time to soak up the surroundings and relax, or make your own run all the way up to Prudhoe Bay. That would be a nice feather in your cap! 😀 Feel free to ask any questions anytime. I can't possibly stay on top of every comment in here, but I'll do my best to catch it and give you some good tips. That is if you need any tips. For all I know you've already ridden all over the globe and couldn't possibly learn anything new. 🙂

Instead of a long story, I'll share a long list: 1. Spent most my free time in winter trying to finish off my cabin. 2. All my work/computer time was devoted to business and my web design/SEO work. Needed to make money. Couldn't stand being at the computer any longer than I already was though. 3. Video editing is so slow and cumbersome, especially with that 360 footage. I've been saving up to build a new computer to help with that. 4. Covid happened. 5. Bought a new house and spent ALL summer doing nothing but home remodeling and renovations. I'm still at it. Most my stuff is still packed away to this day. Big mess. Just now got my office set back up. 6. Had surgery on my nose (help me breath better) which disrupted everything for a few weeks. 7. And now here I am, trying to get back on track. I think now that I have my office setup (basically, but not fully) I should be able to get the videos moving along. 👍 Thanks for writing Rajen. Hope you and all your family and friends are doing well. You've got one of those profile pics that is always recognizable every time you write. Cool shades. 😎🤙

I am always curious why people are choosing this 400cc bike to do these amazing long tours. I've done it on bikes with a lot more power but never over 800cc. I would have taken a KLR 650 (heavy) or a DR 650 with tank conversion or best the 700 Tenere. I suppose the RE is new kid on the block so it gets the vote. Great adventure. Did you ride through Canada armed?
@KARMAkazeMoto
@KARMAkazeMoto 4 года назад
No, I was not armed while riding through canada. In fact, I didn't even have bear spray with me. I looked into purchasing a used KLR before buying the Himalayan. In the end I was able to get a brand new bike for the cost of a used KLR. Sure, I wouldn't mind a little extra horsepower, but the Himalayan's cost, seat height, luggage carrying capacity, passenger carrying capacity and comfort, rider comfort, and balance of on and off-road capability, make it a pretty acceptable choice I think for a lot of people. For sure it's been fun having something unique, the new kid on the black as you say, but ultimately, as you'll see throughout the remainder of the series, I found the Himalayan performed better than expected. That's just the truth. Not long after this trip my wife sat on the back and we did a ride into the interior of Denali National Park. Again that's a lot of gravel with some moderate hill climbs. Throughout the year no one's allowed to actually drive their own vehicles in there, but the Park Service holds a lottery so that a handful of people can drive in that far right before they close the park for the season. So we rode 160 miles or so two-up, mostly on gravel as I said, with some climbs, and again I was really surprised how well the 411cc's performed. The Himalayan is a strange beast. I'll be posting a video of that Denali ride as well . Not a long series, just one video of that trip. Thanks Ray for watching and commenting!

I'm glad you noticed. There's more fun stuff coming up, but truly much of the road is glorious, even the gravel sections. Helps to know how to handle the bike in loose stuff. Whether or not you get yourself in a tough situation is of course dependent on the weather. If a rider gives his or her self enough time, they could sit out the rainy (or in my case, snowy) days and the trip would be nothing but fun.

Thanks for the excellent video. It's a great thing to inspire others with your adventures. I'll be taking my Himalayan bottom to the top of the uk on the back roads next year. Thankfully I'll not be needing the bear horn/spray/gun !! Not sure I'd have the balls to be camping out under a tarp in bear country, I'd be handing over my credit card to the hotel. Have you ever had to use any of those three deterrents in anger ? Finally it would be good to get an update on the bike - you certainly ride it hard so knowing what was good/bad (failed broken etc) would be interesting . Take care up and over there ....
@KARMAkazeMoto
@KARMAkazeMoto 4 года назад
Wish I was a billionaire playboy. I'd fly my bikes all over and go ride with people. A bottom-to-top UK ride sounds fun! Not that I was invited... just saying. 😀🍻 I'll do a bike update for sure. Others have asked about updates on gear as well. For now, I can say the only failure on the bike thus far is that my compass is stuck telling me I'm headed south. You can see it in the video actually. Sort of strange when you're literally traveling as far north as possible. 😆 Regarding the bear deterrents, a few summers ago I was working under my cabin, just cleaning and organizing. A sow and three cubs got the jump on me. Luckily I was wearing the spray on my belt. I was unable to get up into the cabin, the mom stood up, I had the spray at the ready, but she didn't approach me. As I went back under the cabin (which would have given me more time to spray here, putting some of the framing in between she and I)_ she also turned tail and ran. Took the cubs with her. And those cubs, they were not small. Easily bigger than me. Seamed more like yearlings. Of course, puffy fur makes them look even bigger. So I haven't had to use any of the deterrents, but very nearly so. Was quite an exciting moment that I'll never forget. And you can bet I ALWAYS carry something from now on. You just never know when it's going to happen.

@KARMAkazeMoto
@KARMAkazeMoto 4 года назад
Some of the clips in this part of the series were filmed on August 17 and 18, put's me at Mid August. I personally think the best time is late July and early August. Things start to cool down, you may catch some fall colors, etc. I ran into some nasty snow and ice, which is why I say early August is still good. But for you, expect TONS of daylight and some pretty warm days. Shoot, you might even be riding in high 70's and low 80's. Now, with the warmer temps comes bugs. Again, that's one reason I think late July and early August is best. How much bugs? I have no idea. I've never been up there in the middle of summer. During my trip, there were no bugs to speak of. Nice! I hope you pull this trip off. You'll love it. Do your self a favor. Try to give yourself a full week to ride from Fairbanks to Deadhorse/Prudhoe and back to Fairbanks. It only takes a few days, but you want time to enjoy the surroundings, maybe fish, and do some scouting around. More than anything you want to be able to sit out the rain and only ride when conditions are more safe and suitable. Only ride on days you can actually take in the scenery and enjoy the experience to the fullest. Don't rush. Sorry if I didn't need to offer advice. It's just something I thought about many itmes since doing my trip.

I think the only people that would have problems with the comfort of the Himalayan are people that are too big for it, or have joint aches and pains no matter what. If you're tall, your knees are going to be bent more, and that might be uncomfortable. I don't have any problem with it. Besides, I personally think every bike is uncomfortable after 3-4 hours. Shoot, even my office chair is uncomfortable after 1 hour. Just like any bike, every hour or two, I pull over and stretch. As for the seat, that's also a matter of preference. It's pretty soft, which is nice on rough roads. You'll be glad for the soft seat the first time you strike a pothole and you weren't standing on the pegs. But I could see how some people might not like the soft seat squeezer up into their but for hours on end. 😆 Enjoy that new bike when you get it!

This is the one I'm using, primarily because it was one of the earlier brands. Now there are more. amzn.to/3OiYIiv My trust in the product is due to other accounts, including testing by forest service personnel. Also, it just makes sense that if a bear can see and hear a big cloud of colored gas coming at them, they're natural instinct to run off will kick in, not to mention that a direct hit to the face will ruin their sensitive eyes and nose... for a while. Unlike humans, they're not going to have a mind-over-matter response. They'll run away. Thanks for commenting. I've been out of touch with posting anything in a long time, for various reasons.
