Y'all could be doing so much more with these enclosures ;) I'm mostly joking - always follow YOUR wunderlust first and foremost. Good vibes only. I'm first a reptile hobbyist, second a plant collector... But check out bioactive vivarium setups for tropical species. Biodude is the best supplier of mediums and supplies, IMHO. You could have beneficial soil microbes, springtails to take care of fungus, isopods to consume detritus, and some awesome tree frogs or New Caledonian geckos.I put a lot of my anthurium in enclosures like this and it is SO rewarding to maintain an entire ecosystem that also helps your plants thrive. I really encourage plant hobbyists to do this! I also have sealed terrariums full of springtails and dwarf white isopods for propagation and they basically prevent rot. It's extraordinary how well they prevent it with my cuttings! Springtails can also live in clay medium/cultures so you could totally do that with leca! ❤️ Thanks for sharing!
I totally agree. I considered converting them into vivariums with all the bells and whistles, but because this is purely for propagating and plants in here rotates all the time, it wouldn't work for this purpose. ☺️
So glad I am not the only one who uses a reptile terrarium for my plants! I have one that holds my dragon scale alocasias and black velvet alocasia in it.
That’s such a good idea!! It’s soo dry where I live outside of Tucson. I feel like I shouldn’t inflict a humidifier on my family and unfortunately have no separate space all my own. A large terrarium sounds more interesting than a IKEA cabinet. I do have a greenhouse out back, that was semi demolished in the monsoon storm last night :-(. It has not been air tight since the last big storm. It’s definitely a work in progress.. but my husband says it can be fixed… so YAY for that. Sorry for the ramble
The trick is to find slow growers that are still healthy and thriving specimens. I prefer fast growing plants as you simply buy some aquascaping tools, and can prune/ shape things more often. It lets you change things up.
For anyone interested in buying second hand enclosures and wants to save money, you can buy products like Exo Terra glass cleaner, or Barkeeper’s friend cleaning powder. They’re both very good at removing water marks and limescale. They work way better than typical glass cleaner and don’t cost much, most importantly they’re plant safe. You can get a beat up looking tank, to look good in not much time. Although they won’t work on scratches or if the marks are etched in. I prefer the Exo terra glass cleaner, because it can come in contact with plants and animals and won’t harm them. Barkeeper’s friend must be washed away.
@@LegendsOfMonstera They’re designed for animals & live plants, so it’s a solid option that just works out of the box. Plus aesthetically they look nicer in my opinion. I never knew IKEA furniture was harder to find these days though, I actually planned on visiting one tomorrow so I hope not lol 😂
They’re designed like that. It’s called a terrarium/ Vivarium 🙂. The ones in the video are by the brands, Exo terra and ZooMed. The difference is the number of doors on the front.
