I apologise for the bad rendering of the video, there are some stutters because of it. When I am flying there are no significant stutters so I apologise again!
Very nicely compiled comparison. I'm still using P3dv4.5HF3 and now really tempted to upgrade to 5.2 What prevented me was that many of my add-ons may not work anymore in an upgraded version.
Hey, thanks! Till now I havent got any problems with add-ons from older P3D version using them in P3Dv5. But only that some airports do not have their excludes made, so I have to make it myself! Other than that it is a better simulator than a P3Dv4, but I still have V4 istalled in case I want to fly it again ;D
I'll be honest, I prefer P3D V4s graphics because it's not as bright and gives me like a nostalgic feeling if you know what I mean. This is my opinion so don't start a war here...
Wow ! What can I say? I'm speechless...in so few minutes you've basically showed both sims and their characteristics. Amazing work !!! I've justs subscribed !!! :) What airports did you use in the video? They look amazing !!
Hi! Thanks for supporting the channel! The airport used here was the RFScenerybuilding - RFSB Ljubljana LJLJ. And the main addon serving whole terrain of Slovenia is the SloveniaX addon which also includes all airports in Slovenia.
I don't understand why people say that P3D doesn't stutter like FSX, because in this video I see a lot of stutter when the plane is just driving towards the runway, while I have none of that stutter in FSX.
Hey Lev! As said in my initial comment there are some stutters made due to bad video rendering. But as you say there still are some stutters at P3D simulators unless you have a "monster" PC ;P But if I compare FSX to P3D I can say that in my opinion and when doing my personal tests I experienced much more stutters in FSX compared to all P3D when using same addons and same (high) settings.
EDIT: With the massive failure of a certain Turboprop in X-plane, I'm back to V4.5 - no updating, no messing around - just flying. I am only flying the CRJ in MSFS. I have MSFS, V4.5 and X-plane. I was sold on P3D but now its X-plane all the way. MSFS is a joke.
Awesome video! I am getting sorted out with Prepared 3D v4 and v5, and the v5 looks like the way to go! I have heard there have been issues with memory leaks. how is it? I have 8gb of VRAM and 32gb DDR4 @3200. Also what is the song at 4:30? I really like it!
Hi! I do not have problems with VRAM also at 8GB and 16GB DDR4 2400MHz. Can't remember the song right now but will try to find it and will let you know 😉
@@ALL4AVIATION awesome thank you! Looking forward to moving on from FS9. Using FS2020 right now but missing the Boeing birds. It would be greatly appreciated if you could find the song 😁
Hey! It depends totally on your system and addons. It is true that I also have a large number of addons, but the real thing that you might not have is IVAO Multiplayer Traffic Library-MTL (used for displaying other online traffic on IVAO network) which consists of many different planes which simulator needs to "check" before starting up the sim. In V4 that was not optimised but now in V5 it takes only few moments to start even with MTL installed. Also other members with MTL had the same problem when starting up the sim (friend of mine have to wait 10 min before V4 starts up😅). Do you fly on IVAO or any other online platform?
Very Informative Video, I would like to know-how is the default terrain in P3D v5.1? Do you need ORBX to enhance the trees, buildings, grass, and scenery as in P3D v4? I don't want to invest in ORBX Vector or Global base, so does P3D V5 have enhance default scenery?
Hey, thanks! I would say that terrain is very P3Dv4 look alike when talking about default textures, buildings and trees. Maybe the ORBX Global is needed if you want more immersive and colourful scenery. I personally do not have any of the ORBX stuff, but maybe I will install it in future. And apart from this many users say that ORBX Vector is not anymore needed in V5 as the main data was updated and the scenery is more occurate then in V4. When comparing V4 and V5 default scenery airports in Africa I found out that airport in V4 is almost few nautical miles apart from the airport which is in V5 (very strange but yep the V4 data was definitely outdated). So I think it is mostly up to you to decide if you will use any additional scenery addons or not depending on your desires.
Hmm not quite sure, I would follow the main requirements published by Prepar3D. And I would take a look at recommended system requirements as the minimum surely isn't enough for a perfect experience. Take a look here: www.prepar3d.com/system-requirements/ ;P
@@PAPIREY7 I do not totally agree here. But perspective is from person to person. About P3D there are more good things than only the fog as of now I am using both simulators at the same time and V5 looks and woorks much smoother than V4. But the MSFS is still unusable at the moment, as there are no complex airlines and no world/airport scenery. Only the photoreal and weather looks good in MSFS but other things need to improve firstly. At the moment real simmers will stay on P3D and Xplane thrust me. I will probably also go to MSFS but only when things improve, that means when I will have a reliable Airbus A320 and at least few airport sceneries in my region.
@@jessejames5825 Nice to hear that you fly it everyday! Which plane do you fly and what sceneries do you use, or do you just fly on default airports? I personally think that MSFS still needs to develop and then I will buy it. But until then I will use P3D 😉
Hey dude, i've been in a doubt recently about this thing of upgrading from V4 to V5. I currently have a GTX 1650 with 16 gigs of ram running on my main computer, while my laptop has a 3050 Ti and 8 gigs of ram. Should I upgrade to V5 on my PC or just stick with v4.5 at the moment? Or just install it in my laptop? I would really love to run V5 instead of V4.5, but the only problem I had with v5 the first time I installed it was VRAM usage. I had a GTX 1050 Ti prior to the current 1650 but, since they both have 4 gigs of vram, I don't think there's much difference in that aspect. So, what should I do?
Unfortunatelly yes. You need to buy every new version of the Prepar3D simulator (v1, v2, v3, v4, v5). But all the subversions within one version are free of charge (v5.1, v5.2....)
@@Damlistky9-9 There is no discount available. I think only for some users which bought V4 at the time of V5 release they offered some kind of free of charge simulator change or something like that. Can't remmember the situation right.
I think FPSs are quite raised in V5 but unfortunatelly I find some microstutters compared to V4. Well about 2Gb of VRAM I am not quite sure that it will work as it should as at least 4Gb is recommended and I have 8Gb. Maybe you could experience CTD while flying due to low VRAM.
From the visual and also performance aspect I would recommend V5 over V4.5. At this point I think there is no need to be or stay on V4.5 as the V5 is now stable as it should be.
@@marianafernandes8178 oh okay this might be a small issue but I still think there should be no problem on medium settings. As long as you do not overkill your graphics card everything should work fine.
How does v5.2 work with Orbx scenery which I currently use in v4.5? Also, is v5.2 compatible with Active Sky and Active Sky Cloud Art for P3D v4.5. At the moment it's all fine with P3D v4.5 but will I have to buy yet more software from Orbs and HiFi Simulations?
Hey Ray! I did not install any of ORBX stuff onto v5.2 and probably will not even do it as I mainly use Photoscenery. But as far as I know few friends use ORBX terrain addons on v5.2 without a problem. And as when looking at ORBX website I can see that almost all global addons except ORBX Vector are also for V5. So I think you do not need to buy the addons once again. And in regard to the weather addons I use Active Sky with Active Sky P3D addon. This addon works in v4 as well as in v5. But at the moment there are still few problems with the weather generating on the Lochkeed Martins side and because of this Active Sky might not show the actual weather. They are on it and maybe they will fix it very soon. But in regard to Active Sky Cloud Art I can not help you as I do not know the addon either do not use it, sorry. Regards!
@@ALL4AVIATION No need to apologise. What you've said is good news. It's okay(ish) to pay for a new version of P3D but to pay again for all the add-ons would be a step too far. Like a lot of people right now, I'm somewhat disappointed with the latest update of MSFS and the so-called Hotfix so I think I'll go back to P3D for a few months and as I invested in a good computer to run MSFS, my last flight in P3D was exceptional. Admittedly, I don't fly airliners but cruising around in my RealAir Simulations Turbine Duke, JustFlight Arrow III and A2A 182 and Comanche my new setup regularly gives me great performance in P3D. Who knows, I might even forget about MSFS. Cheers!
@@rayjennings3637 p3d v5.2 is much better now, with a highend machine u run everything smooth with orbx.. ground textures doesn’t blur anymore for example. But the clouds need more improvement sadly
@@abangss Sure, CPU is Intel I7-7700 running at 4.0 GHz. Then GPU is Nvidia RTX2070 8Gb Vram. I also have 16Gb RAM 2400 MHz. And finally the simulator is running on seperate SSD with 500Gb capacity.
@@ALL4AVIATION Thankyou, i'm sorry for out of topics, I did something like turn autogen vegetation to fully right, but nothing change.. any way to increase it? or do I need to operate P3d.cfg?
Well I think that some of the settings changes do not appear right after the changes are made but it may need a reinstall for the changes to appear. Maybe the same goes with vegetation. But also if you set vegetation to max there will surely be a bigger number of trees but still it will look like there are some missing as the simulator will not show you every single tree also from real world😄
@@ALL4AVIATION So does it mean I have to buy all new sceneries for P3D5? I think my older sceneries for P3D4.5 will not more work in P3D5(5.1)?! Thanks, Boris
@@borsi99 In my opinion and as far I as tested different sceneries mostly all P3Dv4 scenery work for P3Dv5, but only the airport exclude is needed. The exclude will remove the default airport in V5 as V5 is a bit different compared to V4. If you load any old scenery then probably the default airport will still be "below" your actual senery and that is why exclude is needed.
@Ekwonu Kenechukwu I have the exact same specs as yours, except I have a ryzen 5 4600h. P3D v5 runs very nicely at 35 fps when I use the FSLabs A320 with a payware ORBX scenery like Innsbruck or Melbourne. It's also very stutter-free, so it's pretty smooth as well!
It depends on what you want or need. If you want great visuals out of the box and great performance then V5 is the right choice, but in case you want better user defined visuals then there is v4, where you can find most of the programs and then play with visuals and settings. But at the end everyone has a different opinion of something...

@@ALL4AVIATION what makes p3d v4 better is that the interior looks more realistic than the other versions. in the other versions they have too much reflection that removes the realism.
@ Oh okay, I do not see much reflections in my P3D or at least in the main aircrafts that I fly. But you are right for Aerosoft planes, I saw extensive reflections in their cockpits.
In my opinion that was needed as this is also happening in real life. Especially in winter time when I fly in real life you will occasionally see haze in a distance and above the terrain.
Sorry to say but I would say the opposite! At the moment only graphics are better in MSFS than other simulators and there are less stutters. Unfortunatelly there is no addons which are high-level based like in P3D (FSlabs, Majestic, PMDG) or even Xplane. At the moment the scenery looks nice but there still are mistakes in orthophoto and also custom buildings are missing all over some countries. I will buy the MSFS but only when it develops to the point when it will be flyable like it is P3D or Xplane. That is my personal opinion and of course anybody has his own.
@@ALL4AVIATION Well PMDG's DC-6 is here and A2A is already working on something. Not sure what you mean "only graphics". For the last 20 years we have always been choosing the base simulator for its graphics and then choosing good quality add-on planes. I too refrained from MSFS for the lack of good add-on planes, but now that at least one is here everything else looks obsolete. Kindest regards and thanks for the video.
@@johnpap9328 Hey! Thanks for the comment I really appreciate your feedback! By meaning only graphics are better I can say from my perspective that the 3D modeling (more complex objects can be made without FPS hit), draw distance (better adjustments for autogen drawing compared to other simulators) and the lightning/textures/shadows are quite good. I also consider graphics as the base of the simulator but I personally give priority to aircraft addons firstly. I am also a student pilot and I want to have the airplane that behaves as it should. Maybe as you say A2A will be adding some great aircraft in near future and also the Fenix A320 is promising for me. Will see how the progress goes. So far I haven't tried the sim by myself (but I intend to try it out very soon) but I have only viewed streams and I got few reviews from my friends. Will see what the future brings to the simulator. Enjoy your flights ;P
@@ALL4AVIATION I understand how you feel. It's the same reason I bought it on day one and then gave up for a year anticipating good airplanes. For now I'm more than happy with my DC-6. Also, I took some of the tours that come as missions with the sim and I think that they have also worked on the vanilla airplanes too. I mean I don't remember having to use the rudder pedals to make coordinated turns a year ago. Well they're not up to par with A2A and others but they're good enough for default airplanes. Happy landings!
