I like the way you take care of your airplane. You are so detail oriented and every single action shows respect for the machine. I think that buying a used airplane from owners like you would always be a win/win deal. Thanks for your video.
Your videos are excellent. I’m looking for a PA-28 in Europe and you give a very thorough narrative on ownership of one of these beauties. Keep the content flowing, it’s appreciated.
I noticed you kept the filler cap on while the oil drained. Shouldn’t it be removed to allow a better flow of oil out the drain? Or is there enough case venting to allow air to fill the space as the oil is drained?
We followed the guidance of Zephyr Aircraft Engines who had performed our overhaul. They recommended just using Phillips XC 20-50 after the initial interval.
We record this detail on a log on the wall of our hangar. It's much easier to track then reading the filter every flight. But to eat their own for tracking maintenance.
If you are telling people that don't know things, Don't forget things on the Check List of doing that job! I think you are doing a good service for people! Just think some of the little things may help people not to forget some of the little things that can make a big difference. I thought of putting a sticker inside next to the Dip Stick so I see it each time I check the oil. It is sometimes the little things that we forget, and some of them can come back to Bite You!
usually its 50 hours as a standard but since its a low time engine you want to change the oil at smaller increments to ensure that there is no wear and tear in the engine that can happen since last overhaul. Better safe then sorry since you cant pull over in the air. This was more then likely the engine manufacturer requirements
That was an error on my part. The tool is in the $60 range on amazon. My apologies for the error. It is cheaper than the aviation version, but not by as much as I thought.
C J it will depend on the size of the diameter of the quick drain nipple on your oil pan. We measured and went with a hose inside diameter 1/8” smaller for a tight fit.
