It's crucial to realise that because incredible South Indian filmmakers like Vetri Sir, Pa Ranjith Sir, and many others have a global following, people like me who don't speak Tamil find these types of interviews to be essential for learning about these filmmakers and comprehending the origins of their culture. I sincerely ask for English subtitles once more. I hope it's not too much to ask for subtitles because for us, these interviews are practically like university lectures. I'm grateful. Will always be grateful for the wonderful job you did in exposing us to these treasures. ❤
Seriously. If you have any respect, call them Indian film makers. Or Tamil film makers. "South Asian film makers"? It's one of those exonyms others use, we didn't give it ourselves. This is erasing the identities of what we feel about ourselves. I bet no one living in india, would call themselves as "South Asians". That's an artificail identity created by western academics through their american centric lens, then legitimized and accepted by diaspora living in those countries clearly sucking up to the discourses. That close reading and critic apart, I concur with your assesment that Pa.Ranjith, Maari Selvaraj, Veltrimaaran etc have brought a revolution in Tamil cinema.
Pa Ranjith has been trying to show inequality in his films in these 10yrs.. he is very clear in his thoughts.. how inequality has affected him... liked a valid point that he said .. in urban & rural backdrop there is inequality among people.. only difference .. one is invisible & other is visible.. totally agree.. he has immense knowledge about cultures etc 👍

In the Interview it is clearly said that fools like u are not understanding that for the budget kaala was made... It is a " HIT " .... And now down the line the movie has become a cult classic... It will be celebrated even more in the coming years...
@@NaveenKumar-ff3ls OK Einstein sir. 1.As per news reports, the budget of Kaala was 130 crore and the movie collected 150 crores worldwide. 150 crores for a star like Rajini sir is not a HIT in my opinion 2. Kaala was removed 3 days before it's 50th day from theatres. An HIT movie would not have been did like this 3.Kaala collected its 100 crores within 3 days but the next 30 days it collected just 50 odd crores What I mean from all this that it was a gud movie but the fans of Rajini didn't expect a film like that from their star. And as per your statement to its budget it collected 30 to 50 crores more but that doesn't signify a HIT in Rajini movies. Bcoz his fan base can do way better than that

Yes for Brand like Rajinikanth though it covered the costs and did give a profit to the producer... It did not meet the expectations where other Rajinikanth movies gives u a double profit..
He doesn't need to become a pan Indian director. His voice is important. Whoever wants to hear, they will hear it. Irrespective of the language. But I get what you're saying. He said he wanted to make a film about Birsa Munda. A freedom fighter from Jharkand tribal people. Maybe that can unite the whole country about his ideology.

Pa. Ranjith has always had such amazing clarity of thought and is super unapologetic about the things he choose to make movies about. Imagine believing Pa. Ranjith is a "jaathi padam edukaravan"
It’s always great to listen to Ranjith. He thinking and knowledge of social aware , social responsibility along with Spock reasoning is great. No doubt many directors should listen to him and watch his films. Great conversation by both.

50:35 True... Nobody spoke about Kabali(Biggest Blockbuster).. Which had grossed 400+crores life time worldwide.. And it's First day collection was 100+crores worldwide...Tamil nadu alone it did 22crores on First day and grossed 100crores ... Which is a bench mark set during 2016 itself...
