When he brings up that the millions of gamers have played and feel they are part of the character was so spot on. When you spend hours upon hours, it does become a part of you and those expectations. It is important to understand that writers/producers/actors are doing the best they can to stay true to the character while appreciating how personal they can be to the players. I feel the show is doing well and hope it continues. Pablo, great job and to the whole group on Halo!

Agreed. The first 3 Halo games, the player is Master Chief. Halo 4 and its sequels, Master Chief is a character you are playing. When they revealed Master Chief's face in the show, I was not mad about it. For me, it feels like something I expected to happen. It was the same feeling I got when I played Halo 4, Guardians, and Infinite. Master Chief was a character I was watching instead of playing. I can see the flaws with Master Chief in the show, but I blame that on the writing. Pablo did a great job as Master Chief. I just see his version of Master Chief as another adaptation of him. Like with James Bond, Batman, and Spider-Man. Different adaptations. Different actors.
I love how humble he is and how down to Earth he truly is compared to most other actors. He’s very distinguished without trying to be and great at explaining how his roles to others. Truly seems like a great, genuine guy.

Agreed, but I haven't seen much of anything he's been in since a very memorable guest role in L&O:CI (which series I was obsessed with). It's like he's an entirely different person. Or rather, an extraordinarily different grown man. Even his voice is like an octave lower & rougher.
Honestly, I respect his version of master chief, he humanized a character that millions got to make their own. Even though there are production difficulties and inconsistencies I respect what he brings to the character. You have to step away from the game and realize the human experience that is revolves around all of the other characters that he has to interact with and fight along side. Season 2 episode 4 and 5 were very emotional and it’s gotten so much grittier. Solid 7/10 so far and rising!
I recently split up with my boyfriend. So I was drinking at home and watching series to take my mind off things and I started Halo. Such good series, incredible. Then suddenly I burst into tears. My friends were like why the hell are you crying? Then my friend, also friend of my ex, came in and saw Mr Schreiber on the screen: "Oh boy... He looks like your ex." That's how I cried while watching a combat scene in a sci-fi series.
S1 was a bit shakey, but season 2 was great and Pablo Schreiber has that real quiet and giant presence that you feel the Master Chief needs. Great casting for me.
I don't care what people say. the series may not be an exact representation of the game. but this is a damn good TV show. this season was hella good. I was always on the edge of my seat.
Having been to Ymir (where Pablo was born) it's current population is probably around the 200 mark, way down from its earlier 20th century / late 19th century heights when they had a hospital, hotels, and all kinds of businesses to support the local mining industry. It is beautifully situated in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, and a nice place to visit.
I'll be honest season I was like no master cheeks but after watching this and seeing season 2 I'm really liking this show now a good origin story ish it's getting better for Shure hope we get a season 3 and on
tbh I gave the show a chance recently, theres a lot i didn't like about it in terms of the plot they went with in season 1 and what they chose to focus on away from the spartans and military - BUT, I love Pablo's performance and a lot of the main cast bring some currently fairly flat characters to life so well - I quite enjoyed everything to do with Master Chief and silver team, even if it wasn't the halo adaptation I was expecting. We'll never get a tv show with the video game master chief, not unless it's like an animated action show, so they can rely more on tone and set pieces rather than character building, which makes more sense for a live action show taking on a very expensive sci fi setting.
@SpecteR3145 I love halo and am always willing to talk about it. I love that at the very least we can come together as a community and have discussion about the material. However, I don't think I understand your question. They haven't started every episode that way and I don't think that would be wise either. I think what it is that your trying to ask is IF i would have preferred this and no. When I say that "It's just not Halo." I'm referring to the amount of changes that has been made that takes it farther and farther way from the source material. Every little bit chipping away and what many fans, myself included, made Halo so great. Let's start on a micro level first with how they interpreted the Spartan 3 program. From my knowledge of the source material The Spartan 3s just like the Spartan twos we're also child warriors from very young ages were trained and indoctrinated to be UNSC super soldiers. The evolution being that these were now children who are orphaned by the covenant instead of being kidnapped and replaced. And although starting with the Spartan 3s they were made to be more expendable there is still at their core a spiritual reincarnation of the historical Greek Spartans of old. And I think it could have gone down very interesting paths and character developments by sticking to the source material. Very much like noble team. Each of those Spartans had fantastic characters and yeah maybe they didn't want to do one for one make noble team but they still could have taken those character designs and implement them in different Spartans like how he saw what they did with silver team being reminiscent of some of the Spartans from the real Halo timeline. But instead they kind of made them into Spartan 4s which by the source material are Spartans only a name. They're even ridiculed by Halsey for not being true Spartans. This is one of many changes that the showrunners decided to make that again by itself yeah we could go along with but it's not just this it's several things that just keep pulling it further and further away from what Halos story is. Kind of related but also not really there's a lot of parallels here with what's going on in the fandom to what happened with The Witcher series. The showrunners of that show changed too much and a lot of the fans didn't like it. Again I love the fact that we can come together and have these discussions and I'm looking forward to see what your response is but please let's keep it cordial. I'm not saying that the show is bad In fact I'll be honest by itself I rather do like it and it has some decent storytelling elements to it and if you change the names and places it would be a good story. Again it's just not Halo. Or at the very least not the Halo we wanted.
@@ANewAmerica All these micro-trifles have no effect on the story at all. And I like how the plot is shown in the series, unlike what I saw in the games. The plot in the games is extremely average in fact and it is a miracle that at least something was remade and turned into a show on TV. Well, instead of a thousand empty words, you had to hit the Halo fan with the most iron-clad argument. They took off their helmet! Everything is lost! :)

There are very well written books that expand the universe greatly. If I may but have you looked into Halo past just the games? With your very short and kind of empty and inaccurate response to my replies it almost seems like you may not know to much about Halo other then the games. Yes Halo CE didn't have much of a plot past "super hero defeats bad guys and saves the universe" but what about Halo 2 with the arbiter's character arc about realizing that the Great Journey is a lie or Halo 3's story about humanizing Chief with the realization that he loves and needs Cortana? I mean pretty heavy stuff there that absolutely can be expanded and developed on without changing everyone's backstory. Which is exactly what the TV series did. Not a single character has the same backstory as they did in the original universe. They didn't discover Halo the same way which on its own is a massive change to the original plot of the Pillar of Autumn accidentally discovering Halo and leading the Covenant straight to it.
An underrated film.It's not his first leading role, but he does it brilliant. I hope for the film that does justice to his potential as an actor and not just hitting people. He is much more than that.
Season 2 was really good in my opinion, and Pablo does a good job describing veteran thinking at times. The human elements which he mentions...I like it. Good job Pablo.

Any other ladies here see a ring on his left hand all of a sudden? Or am I seeing things? Enjoyed season one as an introduction to the universe, never played the game. I’ll take character building and emotional development over a purely one dimensional sci-fi movie of the week type. (Not saying that’s what the game was - don’t be hating.) Season two is 🔥🔥🔥. They are nailing it. I’ll take 5 more seasons please.
I never saw Master Cheifs stoicism as a "blank slate" for the player to fill in with their own personality. I saw it as he's a hero that doesn't convolute the bigger perspective with his own personal bullshit. I don't think players saw Master Chief as an empty character like he's saying here. Chiefs character was all action, always doing the right thing for the survival of humanity. Thats why fans dislike Halo being turned into "Jimmy Rings quest of feelings" No hate on Pablo though. He does a fine job with what the writers/directors give him.
Couldn't agree more my friend! I think this is exactly what the showrunners have gotten wrong with Master Chief. He's not a blank slate He's an unwavering machine, and unstoppable force of humanities survival. He can't stop for a second to be human, he leaves that for the other characters in the story.
On the subject of war being more complicated than average people might think, I think the original Halo series did a great job at changing the player’s perspective on what they were fighting against. Halo 1 has the players fighting the covenant, thinking they are the only villains in the game (which as an opponent are already comprised of multiple alien worlds fighting for the same cause to begin with) only to discover the Flood which cares only to consume and absorb everything around it. Halo 2 gives the players a chance to play as the Arbiter, which in their first level as him is tasked with eliminating rouge members of his own organization (and never tasked with fighting humanity). While the Arbiter and Chief never fight together in Halo 2 they recognize that the Flood is a bigger threat that threatens both of their people. By Halo 3: Chief and the Arbiter are now fighting side by side, even on Earth to fight off invading Flood forces, splitting up Covenant political ideas to either continue the invasion of Earth, or aid in the mutual alliance against the Flood. And even to further complicate things, when the Flood feels likes it’s about to lose, it briefly joins forces with the Chief and Arbiter to prevent the Halo rings from being fired by the still religiously convinced Covenant. The other games have their moments, ODST, Reach, Halo 4, and so on, but those first 3 games are a fantastic way of presenting to the player what seems like a very simplistic problem: “Earth is at war with aliens, you must fight them” By the end of Halo 3, the Arbiter, along with other Covenant have made a truce with Earth. I just wanted to close by saying that war needs at least two opposing sides, but those sides are not always divided by good and evil, nor are they concrete, they can easily shift to join forces in threat of something larger. It is my hope that this is what the ultimate goal of the Halo show is, the Flood being the ultimate enemy, even if the flood has intelligence, even if it is able to choose a side, it is the biggest threat, it will rally all those that are threatened by it, and all other conflicts before that drove former enemies against each other will seem highly unnecessary, much how the aftermath of most, if not all wars are reflected on.
Halo fan here. Nothing against Pablo, but I don’t think anyone sees themselves in chief. Myself and a lot of people I know see chief as what Pablo did say “heroic, stoic, man of few words” and that’s why we love chief in the games! He’s a badass that doesn’t say much. Just like the mandolorian, the guy is a badass that doesn’t say much and it works! It can work on television. It’s worked for 20+ years in the games.
The latest games were also thrown with poop by game fanatics. You yourself don’t know what you need. You will always be unhappy. No one can take you back 10 years to your teenage years to feel THAT very atmosphere of the game. This is impossible. So, stop whining and try to look at the world in a new way. Finally grow up.
Spot about the “ownership” of MC with gamers. They have their knickers in a knot about the image of MC in their heads not played out to their expectations. However I do see the writing in S1 was off track but glad S2 is heading in the right direction. I played Halo with my husband when we were dating, I wasn’t the best at it but we had laughs.
Makes me sad when people blame Pablo for how the show plays out and what the writers/studio does. This guy is just doing his job and trying to give it his all. Give your criticism towards Paramount+ and the showrunners, not the actors. Seems like a real genuine guy.
Chief is apart of everyone who played the game not vice versa. He's a character we experienced, broke down, and analyzed as the story unfolds. The Identity being hidden was mystery and intrigue added to an already wonderful character, the problem isn't the face reveals but the over-humanization of a character that isn't known for their emotional state, sans dying comrades.
If Halo got anything right, it was the casting of Master Chief, thats for sure. To be fair though, I am definitely enjoying season 2 much more than season 1 so far.
Pablo is a good actor and can be great as Master Chief but the scripts doesn't give him justice. They should focus more on the conflict between the Covenant and humanity and on the Spartans not on side stories wich have nothing to do with Halo . Anyway be well hope Hollywood will give you better opportunities .

@@jjglazed4852 I think its part of having to carry a bit of the issues of S1 into S2, like Kwan Ha, to make sure S1 isnt completely disconnected for the viewers who watched it. That scene seemed a bit too on the nose, they could make chief just try and let stuff out by talking to himself as if Cortana was there. Again with feedback on those few last places, I do think S3 with CE being what follows, would allow for a complete correction of what S1 had been. I mean tbh just looking at Chief only taking the helmet off when out of combat or when not wanting to be recognized instead of S1 taking it off without sense shows that the showrunner knows that theres a moment for everything and that the show should pride itself of being Halo, which is why the Spartan 3s it would appear will play a big role this season, with them sricking to the 3s being teenagers. By what chapter 6 or 7 is called, we are getting the adaptation of the battles that made a lot of the spartan companies be taken out due to desperate tactics.

A genuinely think that Pablo makes a fantastic Master Chief. It's just a shame he was given quite possibly the worst interpretation of Halo, ever. Absolutely not his fault how the show was written. If there is ever a true fan rendition of Halo I wish he would come back as OUR Spartan.
Spartans should always be wearing their armor and helmets but the show runners want to do such a alternative timeline/history thing with this trash that they can just throw out new lore to the hardcore fans expecting them to swallow it whole. We’re not.

not to rip into Mr. Schreiber or anything of that sort but id rather watch the cinematic cuts of the game rather then the show... like he said that is not the chief i know and it does not feel right...
This guy thinks acting in the halo is either being stoic or scowling at all times. He's more robotic and displays less emotion than any of the games cut scenes and those were able to be done...with the helmet on.
The writers are trying to make him emotional through his actions, while Pablo fails to display those emotions. But ultimately the fans never wanted an emotional 3 dimensional developing character. Masterchief has always been a flat 2 dimensional character that influences those around him to go through change
