Pacman has actually looked like that for a long time, I remember old arcade cabinets and even Pacman 2: The New Adventures on Sega Genesis and SNES featured illustrations of him looking just like that in the artwork.
Shi9k No. I remember playing a sidescrolling type of game back in the 80's that featured Pac-Man as the hero. Pac-Land or -World I think it was called. He had limbs in that, just like in the artwork.
Now we have Mario! Sonic! Solid Snake! Mega Man! Pac-Man! Cloud Strife! Ryu! Dragon Quest Hero! Simon Belmont! Bayonetta! Joker! Banjo and Kazooie! Terry Bogard! Dant-
Personally, I have to go with Nintendo. While Sony and Microsoft had very respectable conferences, nothing really grabbed me and told me "You need to buy a PS4/Xbox One so you can play this game." We really didn't get anything that unexpected from them. Meanwhile at Nintendo, there was a lot of speculation on what Nintendo could be showing this year; people tried to predict what was going to happen. I have a Wii U already, so I was thinking about it as well. And while some of the things we predicted came true (Zelda U, Yoshi, the already announced games, Star Fox to an extent, etc.), it looked as good or better than imagined. And the things that we didn't predict (Splatoon, Capt. Toad, Mario Party, etc.) blew me out of the water and looked very fun to play. Sure, there were down moments. I'm not totally sold on amiibo yet. I (just me, there are people excited for them) didn't really care about the Kirby game or X. And everything they showed off for Pokemon and Mario Maker was leaked not too long before E3, so there wasn't much they could do there. But even then, they also had Smash Bros, which would have sold me a Wii U by itself if I didn't already own one. And I know that's a little biased, but there are people considering buying Wii U consoles just for that game. Even removing Smash Bros from the equation, Nintendo showed that there were a lot of high quality games coming to the Wii U over the course of the year. And they'd be coming only to the Wii U. Nintendo only showed one thing that was available on other platforms, and that was the original Bayonetta, which is being packaged with Bayonetta 2, so it doesn't even really count. A lot of the things that Sony and Microsoft showed off weren't exclusive, and it really undermined the intensity of those reveals, even if there is "exclusive" DLC, which will probably end up caving and ending up on both systems anyway. But none of the things Nintendo showed will be on either of the other next-gen consoles, and never will be. And that's why I believe Nintendo won E3.
For those who don't wanna read my wall of text, I think Nintendo won because nothing really made me wanna buy a PS4 or Xbox One from their conferences, Nintendo's surprises were astounding and even the the things we predicted looked better than expected, and even though there were some beautiful games shown at Microsoft and Sony's conferences, they're mostly multiplatforms, while all of Nintendo's beautiful games are exclusive. Sure, there were moments in Nintendo's event that dragged, but there were moments in both the others' conferences that dragged too. And that's why I think Nintendo won.
Also, unlike the others, they didn't fill the show with multi platform titles, instead they only show titles exclusive for their console. I also like how they had developers discussing the ideas behind their games. I might buy one in the near future. PC & Wii-U seem to be the best combo right now.
To me, Nintendo won. It really helped that they basically made their announcements last all day, so they kept themselves inside my head all day yesterday. What also really helped was the Smash Bros Invitational, which was pretty cool to watch! It was an awesome way to round out the day, and man could you see how pumped the people in the audience were throughout it! They might not have had showmanship in terms of making an awesome press conference with cool trailers and montages, but a 2 and 1/2 hour tournament at the end of the day makes up for that pretty darn well to me! xP
I don't think Pac-Man's been doing THAT badly. It's not like he's a forgotten hero or anything. The Ghostly Adventure series, whether you think it's horrible or good, it at least keeps Pac-Man a little relevant. Have you guys played Pac-Man Championship Edition DX? Awesome game and super addictive. That game is personally what I think of when it comes to the last great Pac-Man game.
Fraser, I think a large part of why they didn't show more titles in the digital event is 1. Because they seem to have a quota for exactly 12 games per digital event, as there were only twelve games shown last year, and 2. They literally streamed over 20 hours of content featuring gameplay footage with developers and organizing the Smash Invitational. I could totally see them finishing the digital event well in advance and then diverting the entire time up into E3 making sure the Invitational and the Livestream events weren't complete disasters, as opposed to a single press conference.
I think doing all the E3 conferences in one evening was a mistake. During the last hour it looks like Kyle, Deacon and Ben are all thinking: "I hope this is over soon. I'm getting real tired AND I've got work in the morning." It sort of took a lot of the energy and excitement out of it.
You guys really should've watched all of this on a different day when you were all rested, fresh and had a day where no one had to go to work the next day, instead of the same day as the Nintendo conference and after the whole day with MS and Sony. I will still say Nintendo won hands down no matter the case because of how they spread things out with the Smash Tournament, developer's dairies, the funny Robot Chicken skits, Iwata vs Reggie, Pac-Man's, Mii's and Palutena's reveal into Smash, along with every incredible game they showed. Yes, I admit that a stage show would be nice but it really isn't necessary when getting the point across and entertaining your audience, which I feel Nintendo did. They kept me excited, they made me laugh, I was interested in every thing they showed including Amiibo, the figures for Smash and Splatoons even though I greatly hate shooters this title actually got me wanting to play a shooter.
One other thing......Fraser must not know about the Pac-Man World series. Never played World 1 (although it looks decent from what I've seen), World 3 is alright (weird platform/beat' em up mix), and 2 is one of my favorite games ever. Playing World 2 back in like 2004 and playing it now in 2014, I still think it's a very solid platformer that is criminally underrated.
I think opposite to last year where Sony was a clear winner, the real winner this year are the gamers who don't care about one specific console. Even though Sony and Nintendo are really close fighter for MY top spot, Microsoft did an amazing job and for the first time make me see the xbox one as a viable buy too. It's a good thing that gamers will be able to enjoy Bloodborne, Little big planet 3, Uncharted and Infamous on ps4, the playstation/vita tv, Sunset overdrive, Dead rising DLC, Scalebound on xbox one and Smash bros, Zelda/Hyrule Warrior, Bayonetta, Xenoblade and Splatoon wii u.
While I think Sony did a better E3 thing in general, I think Nintendo did a better job selling their consoles for me. Like, I buy consoles to play Kingdom Hearts (I'm shallow I know), and I know that the PS4 will have KH3 eventually, which is why I will buy a PS4 eventually. The only other game which I definitely want for my future PS4 is Minecraft, other than those two, there aren't any games that I *need* to have. While this E3 did show some interesting future PS4 games, none of them really grabbed my interest. Meanwhile the Wii U will not have a single KH game on it. I had been somewhat intrested in Smash Bros, and Mario Kart 8 was really making me jealous of Wii U owners, but what Nintendo showed us this E3 has totally sold me on buying a Wii U. It won't have a single game from my favorite franchise, but it will have a ton of other games that I need in my life. So like, Sony did a better presentation and stuff, but they still haven't quite sold me on the console. Nintendo did the very opposite. Their presentation might not have been as amazing, but they had more content. Of course, this is coming from a very casual gamer with a very specific taste in games, so my point isn't quite as valid as the opinions of others :P
I buy consoles for Kingdom Hearts, too. It made Sony win last year's E3 for me instantly and solidified my decision to get a PS4. I mean, I was still gonna get one eventually, but it made me hyped.
Nintendo won it for me.....I was very interested and excited in pretty much everything they showed except for amiibo (kinda indifferent to it at the moment, though I may end up getting at least one or two figures) and Xenoblade (not my cup of tea). Sony and Microsoft both did good as well, but most of what they had to show was either something that didn't excite as much as what Nintendo showed or it simply didn't interest me at all (unfortunately, the latter happened more often than the former). Overall, this E3 was pretty good in my opinion since the big 3 companies all did at least fairly good.
When I was watching live I was confused as to why the mods were upset that the chat wanted them to watch this trailer. Then a mod proceeded to say that he hopes they shit all over it, seriously mods!? thats just childish >_>
Great show guys (and Becky). For me I think Nintendo won this year’s E3, because they showed the most original and exclusive software and overall Nintendo’s content made the most hype for me. But, anyway really enjoyed this year’s E3 show, it was just hilarious! Keep it up! :)
Commodore 64 actually had a near arcade perfect port of pacman and even other Pacman games through Super pacman, so I guess you just missed out. But Pacman literally took over America for all the 80s kids. So I guess you are missing an 80s kid.
I think Nintendo did better. They showed off games that actually look fun. And not just CGI trailers. People wanted gameplay. And thats what Nintendo did.The Digital conference was fun, seeing Reggie and MIyamoto duke it out. Showing gameplay instead of CGI cutscenes. Zelda U almost looked liek a CGI cutscenes ,but from what Miyamoto said, its actually gameplay and IM impresse the Wii U is capable of doing that. Nintendo went all out and this is their best conference yet. The rest of E3 did have games but some not my taste. Sony did announce some games that interest me and Ubisoft was meh. But we can all agree that EA and Microsoft had the worst pesentation
he doesn't like it because they didn't perform on a stage like the other companies. During live performances mistakes can have which is why we have memes like "My Body is Reggie," and Fraser loves that kind of thing.
I think Nintendo won because they seemed to have the most fun. Video games are about having fun, I think that EA, Microsoft and Sony were a bit to serious for me. Just my opinion. Also Nintendo seemed to have the most colorful games there. Sometimes all the dystopian greys and shooter browns get to me. I like a colorful game!
I agree with Fraser at some point. I think Sony won the conference but Nintendo won overall. Because like he said, the question for me and most of my friends is "what system am I getting after I buy my Wii U"
I’m curious as to why you are watching something like this when you question why Pac Man has arms and legs (which was his design since 1980) and what Mr. Game and Watch’s name is.
This is sorta semi-related to the video but also not particulary, but: Didn't Fraser say he was going to solo the Subspace Emissary? Or am I confusing him with someone else? And if he did say that, do we have any idea when it's happening?
I rate conferences depending on how much they make me /want/ the console + how many "O shit!/I need this game!" moments I have. So, Sony takes first place for me: (LBP3!, Bloodbourne!, The Order, No Man's Sky, where the heck did Grim Fandango come out from?, Giant Squid, Arkham Knight got me so incredibly pumped and finishing off with that beautiful UC4 trailer-- brilliant.) Nintendo and MS are surprisingly tied for me. Objectively, I think MS actually had the better conference. Just jam-packed with games. (Forza Horizon, Fable Legends, Crackdown, a Limbo sequel. And I'm so glad that Insomniac seems to have gone back to form with SO. Game looks fantastic!) No 'O shit' or 'I need this game moments' here though. I think I'm just not that big on MS's IPs and the one game that got me really excited was a multi-plat title: AC Unity. /But/ Nintendo just had more games that I was excited about: A 3D pokemon Ruby. X, Smash Bros and holy god does Zelda look /amazing/. Like I-need-this-game-right-now amazing. Not a big Star Fox fan but that tease with Miyamoto and Star Fox would have made the fans crazy excited I bet.
As amazing as Sony was, Nintendo won. The Wii U hasn't performed terribly well (stock drops, multiple sales/profit expectation drops, etcetera) so they went into this E3 with a need to move units. And damn if I don't want a Wii U now. And I haven't given a shit about Nintendo (aside from acknowledging that Miyamoto and Iwata are adorable) since the SNES so that's no small feat they've accomplished. I still don't care much about Smash Bros...I'll take Legend of Dynasty Warriors and Squid Paint Fun Time though. Microsoft...Eh. They're still basically a non-entity on my end. They fixed the arrogant bullshit problem but...Eh.
Honestly? I think Nintendo won. I didn't care too much for the Microsoft or Sony conferences. Nintendo though had some pretty cool stuff that really held my attention.
I guess Nintendo won from a pure content stand point, but if you ask me, they were all winners in their own way. (Except EA, but they're gonna make a mint off what they made anyways.)
I think Sony won, and Nintendo got second :D Nintendo answered some big fan requests, like Pac Man and a new Star Fox. Though, Sony had a better show with creating hype and putting together a good presentation. Nintendo would have won, in my book, if the Digital Event was an actual live presentation.
You do realize that Sonic Generations still isn't over yet. Where are the new parts?!? You have to do the missions in order to complete the game. Just because Robotnik is gone doesn't mean the game is over. Keep playing, add more parts, FINISH THE GAME!!!!!
you guys don't really know how i LOVE play smash in 3ds and wii U,because in the classic mode, i always chose the nothing harder ! and i win the classic in 9.0 more them 73 times, and after this,i get alot of coins, in my game profile i have 35784129 coins
