Pac-Man Museum+ SHOULD'VE Been Better - Review 

The "shimmering" I mention is-barely noticeable because of a post bilinear filter Vegas uses when scaling clips. The best idea of what it looks like is at 10:24 if you want to get a rough idea what "pixel shimmering" is.

I mean this is probably my GOTY. Not sure why, I've just been obsessed with actually getting good at Pacman. Like a bucket list kind of thing. Pacman is a completely different game once you get really good at it. But, that's not really a benefit of the collection. It just so happens that the collection was the game which spurred me onto doing it. I do think it is a great collection though from a variety point. But it's still lacking a few games which would elevate it into top tier.

Since I didn't see this mentioned in the video, Super Pac-Man in Museum+ uses the faster Japanese ROM as opposed to the English ROM. In the Japanese version, when you're powered up by a Super Pellet, you move much, much faster when holding down the Speed button, which only makes the control delay/latency even more obvious. Pac-Mania, which also has some pretty bad latency on its own, feels even worse to play in Museum+.

Honestly I'm surprised they aren't doing Ms. Pac-man as DLC like they did with the previous Pac-Man Museum. Selling it as it's own cheap DLC meant they only had to pay royalties on the DLC's cost, not the cost of the entire collection.

Oh hey, I recognize that Jonii person. :P But yeah, I have to say I agree with most of your criticism here, especially in regards to the input delay, which I felt pretty hard on 1995's Arrangement. The breakdown of some of the more technical details was great to see broken down, especially because I'm not as much of an expert a lot of those details. Still been quite enjoying busting out Pac-Mania every now and again though. Good stuff!

Pac-in-Time is actually a sprite swap of a dos game called Furry of the Furries. The type of game is often called "European platformers" since most games of this type were made in Europe for early computers like the amiga, the commodore or the spectrum.

I've played on both Pacman Battle Royale machine models irl. That is a great reason to buy it, if you needed justification. But no custom design for it kinda sucks quite a bit

Two big downsides to this collection: No online multiplayer despite having 5 multiplayer games AND emulation sound issues

I've also noticed that the arcade room has some strange collision issues when placing certain objects near each other.

No deal without Ms. /Jr. / Plus / Baby / Mr. & Mrs. (pinball) / Professor Pac-Man. I get it, weird rights issues, but those Bally Midway Pac sequels were an essential part of arcades in the early 80s (even the weird ones)... ESPECIALLY Ms. PacMan... which is superior in every way to PacMan and which stuck around in laundromats, bars and rest stops LONG after OG Pacman and the arcade scene went away. It's a damn shame.

The PC version I played seemed pretty good. I went back to test the input lag after you mentioned it and I couldn't notice any. It's worth noting the game DOES have a simple games list, just press plus on your controller while in the arcade. The main problem for me was the vsync. The Vsync option only applies to the arcade, and it is EXTREMELY noticeable on games like Pac N Roll & Battle Royale. There's even screen-tearing on Pac-In-Time, like how???

The reason why switch games are more is because cartridges are more expensive to develop than disks.

The PS1 games remain my favorites of the Museum series. They just got the whole package right, and really stood out amongst pretty much all other game collections thanks to those actual explorable museums. Glad you mentioned them near the end, they're just cool. :)

Honestly, I wish Bandai Namco would just up and rerelease Pac-Man World the moment they get the rights to Ms. Pac Man back.

What I was most excited for was Pac-Man Arrangement for consoles (I played this one on the psp collection), and two of the obscure Pac-Man Wii Exclusive games for other obscure Wii Collections (essentially collection-ception lol)

Definitely more excited for Klonoa 1+2 remasters from Bandai Namco next month

8:45 this is actually misinformation. Unity was used for the arcade menu, and porting the 3D/Modern games over. The games that are emulated aren't "emulated through Unity"

I’ve gotten used to the input delay and both of the arrangement games as well as the remix games from the Namco collection on wii were what sold me the most. I just hope they do add more customizations for games like with input delays and dip switch settings as an update. I also hope that they add DLC of the other Pac-Man Namco Remix games, get some of the royalties over with and add Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man Jr. games in the future. Maybe then they could add co-op back again in the newer 3D Pac-Man Arrangement with Ms. Pac-Man. Also the fact that excluding Pac-Man Championship DX instead of having both versions instead of the regular lesser one is a crime. It’s a longshot that Pac-Man: Adventures In Time (NOT to be confused with Pac-In-Time), New Adventures, and the World trilogy would ever be included, but if it would ever happen, it would up the price, but still be worth it. tldr; I’m having a lot of fun just playing my childhood and getting used to the delay, but I hope they fix stuff and add more as DLC aside from royalties with AtGames.

Gamedev here, Unity is NOT at fault for any issues in this collection, that is all down to the developer. Addressing Unity as the source of these issues is pretty harmful for younger gamedevs and its a common mistake I see people make. Any issues here caused by what the developer programmed, not the engine that the developers used. If they had done this on any other engine I'm sure these problems would still persist.

Tbh I didn’t notice too much input delay but games like super pac man can be pretty tough when you’re trying to quickly go into maze sections while going fast.

I wish they expanded on the arcade part, but that's just me. The selection is great, and the achievements has spurred me to wanting to get good at pac man so badly. I just wish they would also give more attention to the other arrangement titles like dig dug and galaga arrangement which is some of namcos best arcade games. Also wish they would give some of the pac man world games some love.

I’m so glad there is a discussion regarding the latency on this game, especially the Xbox port. I played the Xbox port via gamepass and genuinely could not believe how much latency those games have. The OG Pac-Man imo is just unplayable on the Xbox version and I quickly went to Pac-Man 99 for my fix

Great video! Goes much more on the details than the other reviews. There are some stuff you forgot to mention that are wrong with this collection. 1. The coin system : I feel like the coins draining when inserting a coin was such a bad addition imo. It's bothering me when I'm trying to get perfect patterns over and over by trying again. 2. The roms themselves: You kinda mentioned it while talking about Pac in Time, but it feels like they have chosen the worst roms possible. For example: Super Pac-Man has the harder japanese rom. Pac-Mania is the japanese rom which, while containing more levels, is noticeably slower in its first part... A quick rom edit would've perfected the game by mixing both. Also where the hell are the options and stage select screens on these roms???? On collections such as Namco Museum Megamix, the emulator's engine handeled menus that gave you the choice to either start the game or begin at the desired stage, while having built-in screen settings and sound testing. They could've at least used the Pac-Man 25th version, that allowed you to continue if you still had credits. Arcade games were unforgiving and not having basic abilities like this feel lackluster. Even the stage selection on Pac-Mania is missing, and it was available on the original arcade! Disappointing collection sadly.

Fun Facts :(1) Pac Motos is Based on Motos Arrangement released through Namco Museum Vol 2 in Japan on the PSP. (2) Pac Man Arrangement for the PSP has a Plus Version on that game as well. Featuring skins from Ms. Pac Man, Garobda, Mappy, ToyPop, DigDug II, and The Tower of Duraga(which also got an anime series). (3) Pac Man Battle Royale has almost 5 to 7 Casino Counterparts where people battle for money. (4) Pac Man Championship Edition had a World Championship back when it first came out brought to you by Quiznos, and there was a Pac Man Documentary that aired on the History Channel going into the background of the event and or the developnent of the game.

Wasn't aware of input delay in this collection, might rethink on buying this game or wait for it to go on sale, since that definitely makes or breaks fast-paced games like this for me. Read some Steam reviews and it seems it isn't just exclusive to Switch or Xbox either, so take of that what you will.

Got it on the Xbox Gamepass, and even tho I really enjoy me some Pac Man, it kinda felt underwhelming? I dunno what I was expecting, as it is just a Pac Man Collection. But I think the way the game just puts you into that preset arcade area, and those 500 coins just being there at the start, threw me off a little. Might just be my impression tho.

I remember Pac in Time being a lot better after the first world. Each world has its own level style... it's a combination puzzle/platformer, and some worlds are mostly logic puzzles and others are mostly platform jump-and-shoot. I remember the puzzle element of the levels being what really made the game fun because you had to beat the level a certain way and it took time to figure it out.

I'd never heard of Pac in Time before. The footage reminds me of those games you got bundled with your flip-phone in the mid-noughties, which are kind of lost to history these days.

I'm glad other people other than myself are noticing the input delay on some of these games. I think it's at its worst in Super Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, and especially Pac-Mania and Pac-Land. In Pac-Mania, I immediately notice it when Pac-Man takes too long to output a jump... and I know I won't survive the later rounds with that shit. And in Pac-Land, I swear it's impossible to jump over this long body of water where you're required to repeatedly tap the "Move right" button or stick. (I have the Switch version btw) I don't notice it as much in the other games, though. I'm a little dubious on Pac-Man Arrangement '96, but I've been able to play it well.

Pacman CEDX + the all you can eat pack. should've been included but it's definitely an amazing experience with all other titles included, the original championship edition is a very good bonus

Nice review! I was looking into getting this game and you go into great detail about things. But as a gamedev, the game being developed in Unity isn't part of the problem. These issues can still happen in any other engine if they're not addressed by the dev team. Things like budget, time constraints, team size, skill level, etc. play a role as well. This misinformation can be harmful for devs as it may deter people from experiencing great games made in the engine due to said info.

Ngl the only reason I got this game was so I could play the arcade version of arrangement again. I used to have classic collection cabinet at my local movie theater, but it got removed years ago since people stopped going there ig.

I actually just recently received the playstation 4 version of this game and overall it is absolutely worth owning already I've already completed Pac-Man arrangement both the 1996 and 2005 versions and those where both very enjoyable for me to fully playthrough them both just to see what they had to offer also I just discovered that in terms of the 1996 version of Pac-Man arrangement viewing the model of the cabinet used Turns out to actually be a namco classic collection volume 2 cabinet witch I found that to be very interesting and I can't get over how adorableilly wholesome the style for the 2005 version of the game was from the moment I started that game I was immediately charmed by how adorable Pac-Man and the ghosts looked also during the credits sequence of that game I noticed that they forgot to remove ms Pac-Man I saw her during one of the pictures and was shocked to see that at least one of the titles still included her dispite all of the other games that featured appearances from her where completely changed I also got this compilation mainly because of Super Pac-Man Pac-Land Pac and Pal and also Pac mania overall this compilation was definitely worth adding to my collection of Pac-Man game's

Yeah, I bought this game on Switch. Namco should have added Tate mode support for games that used vertical monitors. It sucks because those pacman games that have been available by Hamster Arcade Archives have had it since release. Hopefully they add support soon. It took a while for Namco Museum to get it.

My arcade used to have a Battle Royale but it was replaced by some remake of the original game called Ticket Mania or something that used the Ghostly Adventures design on the cabinet. Nothing against OG Pac-Man gameplay, but I played Battle Royale *every time I went* and it just disappeared like nothing, I was pretty young at the time and it was really upsetting

Pac In Time is actually a reskin of the obscure Amiga game Fury Of The Furries that was made to act as a sequel to Pac Man 2: The New Adventures.

Honestly the only other things this collection really needs aside from no more input lag is having Ms. Pac-Man back, as well as Pac-Man Jr., Maze Madness, Adventures of Time, and maybe Championship Edition DX+. Aside from those though, idk what else you’d add apart from the Pac-Man World games, but those IMO deserve their own game. Online multiplayer would be nice too. Also bring back the multiplayer for Pac-Man Arrangement CS!

I'm always happy to get a collection of games, but I wish this had more "museum" to it, however it really does some confusing stuff. For example, it looks like any reference to the Midway-produced games are out: Ms Pac, Jr Pac, Baby Pac, Professor Pac. But we still get the character figures that reference these games - renamed to Pac-Mom, Pac-Boy, Pac-Sis, and of course... Professor Pac? Also apparently somehow Pac-Man gets to use the Midway arcade cabinet artwork. But, the Japanese Namco cabinet and artwork for Pac-Man / Puck-Man are nowhere to be seen. I checked the screenshots of the Japanese version and that also uses the US version of the cabinet, it just strikes me as really odd. However, Super Pac-Man is in some made-up cabinet artwork, with the distinctive shape of its cabinet gone, and the artwork for Pac-Land also doesn't fit the Pac-Man shaped cabinet - all the arcade games are apparently conversions of an original Pac-Man cabinet including the 4P Battle Royal with one joystick, as mentioned in the video. And hey, I get that there had to be some sort of presentation put together working around what they could use with the various trademarks and copyrights in play, but again where is the "museum" part here? I wouldn't walk away knowing anything more about these games or their history, really.

I really hope they fix a number of these problems in a patch, though mostly performance and technical hiccups. I recently got this on Switch for about half price and during the one time I played Pac-Mania, there was an audio glitch during my first play though, which didn't stop until I quit out of that game. This would've been a great collection if it wasn't for all these issues. It could've even been a better collection than its predecessor we got over 10 years ago for Pac-Man's 30th anniversary. But I guess it really comes down to how much all of this is a bother to you. This collection and Sonic Origins both deserved to be better than what they turned out, but at least Namco had the decency to not remove all of their previous digital releases of Pac-Man that are already featured in this one.

I don't see shimmering on the 360 version. One thing I don't like is the fact there's no full screen scaling though, I need to use the TV's zoom features for every game except C.E.
