In regard to the longest 15 miles, in 1592, the English Parliament determined the length of the mile. It was decided that each mile should be made up of eight furlongs. The length of the furrow is what a team of oxen could plow in a day. A furlong was 660 feet. Therefore, we ended up with a 5280-foot mile. Maybe it feels more like a a nautical mile because that is 6076 feet. Miles seem longer with anticipation. Thanks for the beautiful majestic views.
