Gonna need a common enemy. Like the Covenant from Halo or something that threatens everyone, not just a few countries. I would love to see humanity become just one race. Not divided or seen as lesser than. Constantly trying to make up for the past instead of trying to move forward. Its gonna take something incredible. I don't know if I want to see that day or not though. As if we do, its going to be both an incredible time and the most horrifying thing humanity has ever seen.

this is one of the best opening scenes i've ever seen in a movie, there's so much information you could make an entire movie only with this part, and yet it's not confusing or rushed, but clear & neat. here you see the quality of Guilliermo del Toro. another director might have fucked this up badly.

Why do so many people hate this movie? Well, it's very clear. This movie wasn't made for common viewers, this movie was made for kaiju and mecha fans. It follows no logic except for action scenes and fights. Have any of you seen a Godzilla or Gamera movie which has a perfect plot and follows logically? No. See, it's ok if you don't like it, you're not the right type of person to enjoy this movie. You're not the target audience; but for someone like me who's childhood was Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, King Gidorah, Mazinger Z, Voltron, Gamera, Gyaos and other giant creatures who love to brawl, you'll love this movie.
@Babytronians
@Babytronians 9 лет назад

@Gridseeker
@Gridseeker 9 лет назад
I liked this movie but still it has its flaws: the human characters were way too exagereted (the nerdy scientists, the asshole pilot and so on). I hope in the sequel and coming animated series the characters would be a litte bite more complex. I repeat, this movie was quite fun and I liked a lot the mecha designs (in fact I collect Transformers and Robotech-Macross figures and also have some Jeager figures), but still it could been better and regarding the director I think Pan´s Labyrinth and the Devil´s backbone are his best movies. At least Pacific Rim is WAY BETTER than the entire Transformers live action franchise.

@Nuvendil
@Nuvendil 4 года назад
I mean, the biggest problem logically is none of the Jaegers use any super secret special weapons. We see them use missles, explosives, etc. So why send a $100 billion piece of equipment into close ckmbat when you could modify a B52 or C-5 to carry enormous payloads of guided missiles of the same yield as the ones we see kill Kaiju multiple times? Shoot, why not fortify the coasts with launchers. The fact is, the film is blatantly working backwards from "let's have giant robots fighting kaiju cause it kicks ass". You just have to accept it.
@GammaDestroyer
@GammaDestroyer 4 года назад
@@Nuvendil - Their weapons are specifically designed to kill Kaiju. Striker Eureka's missiles are called Anti-Kaiju missiles for a reason. They burrow into a Kaiju's flesh before detonating, that's what makes them so effective. They are far too big for most planes and far too short ranged. Plasma Cannons take immense power to operate, and are also short ranged. Jaegers were designed to be a stopping force and to stun Kaiju before using these weapons, hence their tendency to punch a lot. Lasers and rainbows may fit with other Mecha properties, but this one, not really.
@stokesa3122
@stokesa3122 7 лет назад
I love how real this intro feels. It's not about the news reports and footage of the devastation, although that certainly does help. It's real in its tone. In the sense that this Kaiju invasion is a war, and it therefore gets all of the undue glorification and simplification associated with war.

I think that's what really sells this introduction. The humans lose in the beginning, they cower in terror, they create Jaegers as a reaction. Nuvendil The only reason they stopped funding the Jaegar Program was because the Jaegars costs ALOT. It was expensive to build one, and at the rate that the Jaegars were being destroyed, the UN eventually opted for something more "efficient" and "cheaper".
@TheKersey475
@TheKersey475 10 лет назад
Nuvendil There's a pretty interesting theory that the politicians are building the wall as a way of pacifying the people who live on the coast. Riots were already breaking out worldwide over the those rich and fortunate enough to settle inland. Constructing defensive structures on an epic scale was likely intended to give the billions of coastal poor, who’d otherwise overrun inland refuge settlements, a false sense of protection and purpose. Also, it's likely the governments knew that the kaiju were attracted to population centers, so maintaining mass metropolitan populations on the coastline was likely very, very intentional...

10 years ago, I watched this movie at the nearest cinema. I didn't watch its trailer, so I came with zero expectation. I told myself, at least I know what it is all about. As the movie rolls, the first 3 and a half minutes explaine well about what we need to know (though I do want to see more of those jaegers in action). Then came Beckett Boys scene. When the theme song was being played, like a kid receiving gift on Christmas, I was so happy inside. That's where I know this movie is going to be an epic one. In conclusion, it was so good that I ended up watching it for another three times in the same week after work. What a masterpiece! p.s. fast forward to today, my nephew is also a fan of this movie & theme song. I bought him Gipsy Danger action figure for his birthday present last year.

A prequel would've been nice. The first battles when the Jaeger weren't created yet. The panic, the destruction, the desperation. I want to see that. I want to see the crowd of people went into panic as a kaiju first appears. I want to see the military fighting and screaming as they drop everything on the fuckin thing. I want to see the buildings destroyed, cities crumbled and drowned in fire with kaiju stomping around as screams of people everywhere. Honestly that would make a great series if you ask me. It's similar cases with World War Z. The movie was okay for that but it would've been fantastic as a series.

That all changed when the Kaiju War awoken an ancient super species that was unknown at the time, the Titans had arisen. The first and well known titans to rise was the King known as Gojira and his Queen, Mosura or Godzilla and Mothra respectively. There were reports of titans rising up whenever there was kaiju activity. Starting from the Philippines to the Aleutians, Titans killing kaiju left and right. The Titans see these kaiju as invaders and they will fight them to protect their territory: Earth. This war has gotten even more strange.

But as we found out later on, the Precursers who created the Kaiju, were on earth 60 million years prior during the Jurassic period, and found out the atmosphere wasn’t conducive to their habitat, so they waited it out, which tells us they’re extremely patient and careful extraterrestrials. By releasing Kaiju in increments, they simply were testing the waters to see our response, knowing full well that if humans were up against a barrage of Kaiju’s right away with their backs up against the wall, they could very well go scorched earth with their nuclear weapons, making earth inhabitable for everyone. Their preferred method was akin to boiling a frog slowly to death, so no such response could happen.
