Very nice video... I have been wanting to do this ride forever and just need to DO IT. I live in Monterey and want to ride through Big Sur to Santa Barbara and then take Amtrak to Salinas and ride back to Monterey. I have a Raleigh Sojourn tour bike but also have a 2017 Salsa Cutthroat, which is MUCH lighter. I have all the bags accessories but would most likely put a rack on the back. Did you camp along the way or stay in hotels? I planned on camping along the way but staying in a hotel once I reach Santa Barbara.. Thanks
You posted 4 years ago -- have you gone on that wonderful ride you yet? I feel the same way - I just need to do it, too, but from SF to LA (I live in LA). I've just started training for this ride that I plan to take in summer 2023 and while training hope see if my medical conditions and Rx meds will allow me to ride high daily mileage in warm to hot weather. Cheers!
@@FlowJunkie65 Hello Yes, it was WONDERFUL!! Even though I drove through Big Sur many times it's a totally different experience on a bike. I ended up camping along the way on and only staying in a hotel once I reached the end point. The experiences, scenery, and people I met just added to the overall great experience. As I was riding the route I thought to myself "why did I wait so long!". Now I am hooked and want to do other trips. I ended up using my Raleigh Sojourn and it worked perfectly. One thing I had to do is retrain my brain to "slow down", enjoy and take in the scenery, people, smell, and experiences.
@@georgesolomon5696 Awesome! I'm glad you got to do that ride after all! I'll be 65 in March so the SF -> LA ride is a bucket list item for me. And, believe me, I don't plan on riding after faster than I have to! I want to relish every mile! Cheers, George, and I hope 2023 holds another incredible bicycle tour for you!
