Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq

LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

What do you think about this video?

I love the concept of inhaling and exhaling as a way to visualize pacing. To my mind, it's fairly revolutionary.

It's a healthy reminder to writers for certain. Pacing can be forgotten at times and its vital so it's something I at least needed to hear. Thanks

Speaking of pacing, we need not drips and drabs of this awesome guy. And I would EQ his mic just a touch as he likes to whisper talk, especially when he’s making a point that is important. But we need to have the whole gosh darn interview! He’s such a well of great info and should have more then one interview! 😊 thanks guys for your hard work and finding talent that is relatable and helpful. He is good at breaking things down and is a story telling master. We need mor!!! 😊

I love this guy. The way he speaks, the calm voice, the content of his carefully chosen words, he's a delight to listen to. And his selfassured nod and smile when he's finished his answers are the icing on the cake.

Thank you for your inquiry. We believe there is a "Join" button on each video and also on our homepage. It is $5 a month and helps to support this channel. We use it as a way to deliver our full interviews to Members before we release them publicly. Sometimes it is days before and sometimes it is months ahead of time. We find there are those who simply want to give back. Our full interviews for Members Only are located on our homepage toward the bottom.

So important!- Even entertaining frenetic action movies need 'pacing', otherwise the audience gets tired!

Woah, deep. Without even realizing it, I've always appreciated films that take the time to breath. I just thought of it as letting the audience process what they're seeing.

If you want an example of a show that perfectly figured out the build up and exhale, you can't get any better than M*A*S*H. They knew how to make you hold your breath in a scene, and how to immediately lighten it without ruining the pace.

I didn't really like this interview segment. The metaphors for pacing are good, but how do we get feedback to know if we are doing this properly? I'd like to get guidelines for while we write and before handing text to the beta readers. My favourite interviews so far touched on the 36 elements, and the recent long interview about what it's about and experiences, etc. I tried putting that all into practise, and I managed to get 700+ words of text for preparations and brainstorming...and I have never been able to do that.
@5Gburn
@5Gburn Месяц назад
There are different types of writers, my friend. Some of us are more visual and kinesthetic in our practice--and we can feel the "breaths" of a story now that we know to "listen" for them. There are plenty of other FC interviews (90+ percent) which do the left brain heavy lifting. Allow those of us who need the John Buchers of the world our time with him.

Not that it may be relevant to the subject of this video, but my question is has anyone in any videos of Film Courage discussed or mentioned anything about The Warriors (1979) or made an example of that film?

I reacted OUT LOUD as I was listening to this! Not sure my cats were able to quite grasp these concepts with me, but I assure you they blew my mind open on this Scorpio full moon 4/23/24😊 Im a storyteller of the novel writing variety but so often find profound, inspiring wisdom here regardless of the film-centric focus... Have been THOROUGHLY enjoying this channel for a long time but not the type who's brave enough to comment on any platform. THIS might be my favorite segment of any interview so far. So relevant to the storytelling craft but equally to life writ large. The"breath" metaphor hit me like a thunderbolt.... Seemed to me so pertinent to the stories the media weaves and how people get lost in it and why/how easy it is to get sucked in and what that says about us... More than anything, it goes to show the importance of encouraging every individual to embrace their Creator power... that balance is crucial so that we stem the extreme Aggressor/Victim dichotomy archetype that dominates our cultural narratives now. I'm personally surrounded by people who are consumed to the point of extremism, esp politically, on both sides, and this was a beautiful expression of how I see these sides from an increasingly frustrated distance.... Thank you, truly thank you, for sharing this 🙏🌞🚀🍿

This is a very woo woo way of describing pacing. I don't know any decent writers who forget this, they just "forget" to describe it in such an obtuse way. I find it extra annoying when "gurus" act like they're swamis by turning a simple, basic concept into something "mystical". It's not mystical. Just create good arcs of action/rest/emotional moments and space them out well based on your genre. Beat list carefully. I'm not saying that's easy to do, but this wide-eyed pseudo yoga instructor I don't feel would get me there any faster than just remembering the simple concepts in the above paragraph.
