I am also a very anxious flyer and have taken medication in the past. However, I found that the last time I flew, I knitted the entire time and did not need any medication and felt much less anxious. I will always be an anxious flyer, but it really helped me quite a bit. I hope you were able to relax a little bit on your long flight. Have a wonderful time and enjoy!!
Have a fabulous trip! As always, love your videos and I also want to thank you for your generosity with your pattern bundles. They are amazing! Safe travels!
I’m a designer who often goes on longer vacations and I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks about this so much and takes so much knitting. I feel less over the top now. 😀
I live in Auckland and if you want a recommendation for Yarn shop visits while you are here, The Ribbon Rose in Penrose is a great art and craft shop with lots of different brands of wool. Enjoy your trip, I hope we give you some nice weather while you are here 😊
I am so chuffed about the Lauder release! I just purchased 2 of them ~ one for me and 1 as a gift to my bestie (ain't Ravelry grand?!) We're already plotting a KAL, and she's just started on a yarn crawl so she'll be flashing the picture all over California, USA.❤
Hi Rebecca, I thought I'd commented a week ago but I must've forgot to press send 😅 Anyway a massive congratulations on your your Plada patterns being featured in Laine magazine . You are doing brilliantly designing all your patterns and really making a name for yourself as a knitwear designer, so a huge well done. I bought your Lauder pattern , love the cables , I managed to get in on the launch weekend too. I Hooe all goes well on your trip and I wish your Mum and her faincee all the very best for the future. I like how you organised all your projects for yor trip. I was told to use dental floss instead scissors for the plane, you cut use the cutting bit for your yarn. Thank you so much for mentioning using stitch markers when doing a pattern repeat. I'm doing the lovenote just now and although it's nit a difficult pattern I kept losing my place. I have poor concentration these days due my heart condition. I am now using the stitch markers and its really helped . I hope you are having a fantastic trip , take care Xx
I got so excited to finally download your pattern i totally forgot to add the discount code and I'm not even bothered! Cant wait to get started on knitting a V neck sweater version 😊 Thankyou Rebecca and Happy travels!
I went away on a long weekend with my family because of my 30th wedding anniversary. When it was time to go, my husband asked: did you pack enough knitting? I said I packed 3 projects. And then I grabbed 2 more when leaving the house :) It was only for a long weekend, but I worked on all my projects while we were away. Of course I brought enough knits to wear as well. Enjoy your trip!
I love picking up yarn or fabric as a souvenir when I travel - then I get a fun activity, a backup project, and a garment or something to remind me of the good times. Works a lot better if you go to a shop that will wind the yarn for you though.
I hope you have a great time in New Zealand. My youngest kid is over there at the moment, they should be coming home in a month. I only recently found your channel and have been working my way through your o,dear videos. It's really interesting. I love knitting and have done it off and on since my mum taught me. I had a stroke in 2008 a d have been relearning slowly. I found podcasts on RU-vid in 2015 and have been watching them pretty regularly since then. I made my first adult sweater in 2018 and have been garment knitting since. You are practical, interesting and down to earth. I love that you strive for inclusion. Thanks.
I bought the Lauder pattern as soon as I saw the email. It has to be the best value knitting pattern I've ever purchased. Thank you for your generosity. I can't wait to cast on. I purchased my wool before the test call😂. Have a fabulous trip. I hope you enjoy NZ as much as I did. And it goes without saying QLD is beautiful one-day better the next. Stay safe in Brisvagas.🎉🎉
Congratulations on releasing another great pattern! Cables have always been your thing. Have a great trip without any hitches. Our flight to Amsterdam (from the US) was rescheduled for tomorrow, boo! So we lose an entire day of wandering about (and not going to Stephen and Penelope’s until Sunday afternoon. I always tell the TSA or security person that I have knitting needles in my bag, and only had trouble once in Germany. I still had by checked bag so just put them in that. I am taking some wool because, as you know, it is going to be cold and rainy. Although I traveled a lot for work, it was easy for extended trips - just work clothes. I am traveling for ten days and cannot imagine packing for 3.5 weeks! I am looking forward to your post-trip episodes and hope to see some photos. Have a grand trip! Cheers!
Oh no! Sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare. But glad to hear you'll still get to Stephen and Penelope! There's another shop called "De Afstap" just along the street from it that also has great wool options!
TY so much for the discount on Lauder. It’s going in my queue! Have a fantastic time especially at the wedding and visiting family. What a special sweet time!
I hope your trip is fabulous. I was so excited for your latest pattern, I had to stop the podcast and go buy it immediately. I’m excited to see your travel vlog. Happy travels and happy knitting.
Lauder pattern bought and in my plans😍 Your price is so generous I can’t believe it! It makes it very accessible which is amazing 🎉 Hope you have a nice trip and get lots of good memories 😍
Congratulations Rwbecca on the release of your latest pattern. You are really doing well with all your designs. Glad you You have all your knits organised for your trip. I know people have said to take Dental floss on the plane instead of scissors, you can use the floss cutter for yarn. I wish you Mum and her fancee all the very best for the future. I hope the wedding goes well. I love the cables in the Lauder pattern , I haven't used Drops Daisy so will be nice to try it. The Zanna cardi looks great for spring hoing into summer too, can't wait for this one , I like a bit of lace. Have a fabulous time away, safe travels Xx
looking forward to hearing about your NZ adventure, it is a loooong plane ride, but the reward is the stunning scenery of flying into Auckland and it kind of melts it all away. So pleased to hear you are driving down the west coast, one of the most spectacular roads here and it is well worth stopping at Franz Josef to look at the glacier. Looks like you have the right combo of knits for the trip, your lovely Lauder will likely get a bit of wear in the mornings and evenings
I was thinking on the plane ride, "there's no way this is worth it", and we've only been here 2 days and I already think it was. "melts it all away" is the perfect term! We'll be stopping at Franz Joseph next week!
It's been really fun hearing about your NZ trip! I live on the West Coast and I can't wait to hear your take on our very special place! I would recommend Wild Earth Yarns in Christchurch if you feel like checking out a mill/shop that offers South Island grown, spun and dyed yarn. I love your Lauder pattern and very much see many versions of that in my future! Travel safe and enjoy yourselves on your big and wonderful adventure ❤
I've already bought my Laurder pattern on Ravelry. 🎉 looking forward to knitting it up with some lovely Bendigo yarn. Have a lovely time in New Zealand.
Hi from a kiwi, I'm from Oamaru in the south island. Theres lots of cool knitting shops to visit. Outlaw Yarn in Christchurch is my favourite NZ yarn if you get time. Oamaru has a couple of yarn shops too, but not sure that you're coming this way. Enjoy your holiday 😊
Rebecca thanks so much for the code in the promised email looking forward to knitting everything. Have a wonderful time on your trip safe journey to you and yours ❤️
Ah well done you for attempting colourwork. I’m also a terrible flyer and can’t do anything other than stockinette, because I know I’ll make mistakes if I panic. Crossing fingers all your needles make it through various airport securities, have a great time!
Welcome to our little corner of the world! I hope you're loving it. I wonder if you had time to visit Hobbiton in Matamata, i loved it there. New Plymouth is very pretty and its a great drive from there to Wgtn. And the South Island is just spectacular. Enjoy! Cant wait to hear about your adventures 😊
Ran over to ravelry 2 minutes into the video and bought the lauder pattern can't wait for the sanna cardigan to come out it's on my to buy/make list to. Thank you for all your hard work on making these amazing patterns, and have a great holiday!
I've just bought the Lauder pattern which is just as well because I cast off my Daft Days Cardigan this week. Thanks so much Rebecca - hope you have a great time. I did have to laugh when you put some spare yarn in your notions pouch when you already have 1200m in your bags😆
Enjoy Aotearoa!!! When I was there last year, I did a big old Loopine shop haul and also made us do a side trip to buy the Stansborough Mithril yarn from the sheep breed they used from LOTR!
have an amazing trip!!! i'm not sure about new Zealand, but here in Australia our dress standard is much less formal than in Europe, so the sanna cardigan or the tolsta tee would be perfect for going out for a nice dinner. i think the sanna with a nice floral dress would be a really pretty wedding guest outfit too! you're lucky about the weather. the first week in march we had a bit of a heat wave on the east coast of Australia - about 40 degrees! even the summeriest knits would be too hot I think.
I spent a month in NZ last year at this time -both North and South Islands. I hope you have as wonderful a time as I did! I only visited 2 yarn stores (Loopine in Auckland and Crofter’s Yarn in Dunedin)-hardly knitted at all-there was too much to look at as we drove!! There’s also a knitting “booth” at the Queenstown farmers markets. Possum merino yarn is a fun souvenir yarn if you haven’t knitted with it before-it’s really soft! Enjoy your family and all the rest of your travels!!
Loopine has already been ticked off the list! We went within 7 hours of landing as we had a speedy transition through Auckland. Possom Merino is exactly what I bought!
I’ve only had them taken away in Mexico when I was leaving. 240 stitches of linen stitches. I didn’t loose one stitch thank goodness. They were my fav #4 addi 40 inch. So you never know. Safe travels
Have fun in NZ! My husband and I did the fjordland tour in the summer/ NZ winter, it was magical! And I have a tattoo of the scene! I miss it everyday! I will be living through your IG stories 😂
Oh my gosh! I'm so excited you're visiting Brisbane! I hope you get some time to explore :) With Brisbane, right now it is cooling down, but still sitting about 90% humidity, so still in the mid to high 20's - so good for layered dresses/skirts etc and maybe jeans and a t-shirt. If you need recommendations please let me know!
Enjoy your trip Rebecca! no worries about your needles...you will have to do another security check in Doha but I never had any issues with my metal needles. Hope you enjoy Australia xx
Enjoy your trip! As you are packing I’m packing for Scotland from Australia as you are doing the reverse ! Always tricky packing for the opposite hemisphere.
Your hair clips is so pretty and looks great on you and at the very end I realized it matches your glasses! Love it! When you were showing the Tolsta cami project and talking about the plane ride, I look over at my mom and go “spoiler alert: she finished it!” 😂 Excited for the Tolsta and other patterns to come and watched this video at the perfect time as I just got my copy of the Lauder! Happy release day, happy traveling and hope you have the best time on holiday!
Loved the packing talk. I live in Christchurch, NZ and visit my daughter Rebecca in Edinburgh. I take about the same number of projects as you and also about the same number of items of knitwear.
Have a great time! I can't wait to see all your projects ! Also, may I ask for a refresh on what yarn your tolsta is made from (the one you're wearing here). I'm thinking its new tolsta time soon!
I love the look of that lace knit. I am just starting to learn how to knit sweaters, so it might be a while before I can attempt it, but it's on my radar as a future knit for sure. Have a lovely time in New Zealand and Australia. I wonder if you are going to go see Hobbiton while you are there??? I visited Adelaide, Australia ions ago, but loved every minute of it.
Hi Rebecca! Congrats for the launch of your Lauder sweater😍 I have ideas for a round neck Lauder sweater in a light blue or light yellow (it would be amazing in both colors I'm sure) and then I'm in love with your poppy red Lauder cardigan so I might have to copy it for myself 😂 However, I'm adding the Lauder to my list, and I will 100% buying the pattern sooner or laters cause I love. But I'm purposely not buying it right now, partly because I get overwhelmed when I have too many projects at the same time😅 and partly because I think you've already been extremely generous offering 6 different patterns, at the price of one, and I don't want to take more advanced of your generosity using also your coupon code. Of course, everybody's different and has different possibilities and it's thanks to designers like you if knitting is truly for everyone, not just an elite. And I'm gonna support your work, as I can❤❤
I hope you have a wonderful trip. You will be massively jet lagged. Try to stay awake as close as possible to the normal bedtime when you get there. It’s hard. NZ is stunning. With Brisbane, don’t forget that it’s not just the temperature, it’s also the humidity. It’s hot!
I may have seen your podcast too late to tell what happened to me. It was ok to have knitting on needles going from US to Europe. When I was leaving Greece and flying nonstop to US on the same carrier I had previously used, the Greek authorities made me remove the needles from my knitting and they kept the needles as my suitcase had been checked. I now travel with wooden needles on my airplane knitting and put metal needles in my suitcase for later. I hope you have a wonderful trip and have no trouble with security. 😊
Hi Rebecca. I’m from Australia. Don’t take your scissors on board. Mine got taken off me. My mum gave them to me and I miss them. 😢 They were better than the ones I replaced them with. Although that was Melbourne airport. Have a great trip. Hope you come to Melbourne next time. 😊
Have a fab trip. You could use dental floss to cut your yarn if need be. You will have to go through security at Doha, that flight will be not so bad, but the following one will be long. Still you can knit and read and have a nice G&T and glass of wine. Security depends on the airport, some are more strict than others, it seems.
Have a fabulous trip and enjoy every minute of it. Cheetos and bourbon help get me through any flight! I've discovered that if I put the Cheetos in a cup, I can calm my stomach with their salty goodness and knit without orange fingers. I had one security agent ask if I had anything sharp in my bag. When I replied, "knitting needles," he held up his hands - like he was being arrested - and backed away like I had said, "a full nest of cobras!" Travel is great fun - often in unexpected ways. 😘
Hi Rebecca, I hope in New Zealand you can look into the unique and soft Rimu yarn (possum) and Manuka honey, delicious, rare, medicinal, and magical. Have fun!!! Cathy in Atlanta :)
Silly thought….in my head I pictured TSA giving you guff bout your knitting needles and you saying, “Don’t you know who I am?! I’m the Creabea!” I hope your flights all went smoothly and the jet-lag hasn’t been too outrageous.
