Packrafting Westwater Canyon (360º/VR): The Colorado River (Horsethief, Ruby, and Westwater Canyons)

We packrafted the Colorado River in Colorado and Utah by hiking in through Rattlesnake Canyon and paddling Horsethief, Ruby, and Westwater Canyon. This is the 360º/VR version of our trip! At 2,500 cfs, we paddled Skull Rapid, Funnel Falls, Bowling Alley, Sock It To Me, Last Chance, and we visited the Room of Doom.

Saw this on Oculus TV in my headset today and came over here to comment. As a former rafting guide on the Colorado, who ran Westwater frequently, and 360/VR filmmaker for the last 17 years (started on Street View), I absolutely loved this adventure. Admittedly, I'm a narrow audience. Thank you for taking me back to Westwater. I've never ended up in the Room of Doom in Skull, so it was good to take a look around in there, too. I really appreciated the overhead shot of Skull rapid, too. It was river trip like this that has inspired my career in 360/VR (@360 Labs). One note: the rotate sphere effect where you rotate the POV for the viewer to point them where you want them to look was the only thing that made me nauseated. Hi, Thomas! Your comment really brightened my day, because making 360º content has mostly been a fun hobby for me that almost no one ends up actually watching.:) So it's wonderful to hear that you actually watched this video in a headset! And, yes, I hear you about the forced-rotation of the POV; this was one of my first 360º projects and I've learned a lot from some of the mistakes I made, and I won't do that again :). 360º content isn't my top priority unfortunately (because very few watch it), but i actually do have a few in the works just like this one, so stay tuned.
