The Pacman from Mood song is from the Pacman 2 New Adventures game, you have to protect him from hazard or else he'll get more and more emotional if he gets hit. He foes from nervous,to sad, to extremely angry if he gets hit too much.
Gigantic Pac-Man nerd here, here’s all the references I could find, going song by song. The menu theme is a remix of the menu theme from Pac-Man Collection, released in 2001 for the Game Boy Advance. The song itself is actually a medley of the music from the four games in the collection (Pac-Man, Pac-Mania, Pac-Attack, and Pac-Man Arrangement) The main menu background shows a Japanese Pac-Man arcade cabinet, from when the game was called Puckman. The Free Play menu background shows a beach setting, which might be based on the Pac-Land room in Namco Museum Vol. 4, but this could also be a coincidence. The pixel-art cutscenes in the week are based on the intermission cutscenes from the classic Pac-Man games that played every few rounds. (Fun fact: Pac-Man was the first video game with cutscenes!) The first one plays “They Meet” from Ms. Pac-Man, while the second one plays a remix of the original Pac-Man’s intermission theme. “Pakku” got its name from the Japanese onomatopoeia for eating, “paku-paku”, which is also where the “Pac” in Pac-Man is derived from. One part of the song has a motif from Block Town, the first level of the 1987 arcade game Pac-Mania. Pac-Man’s voice seems to be sound produced by the Namco arcade hardware, but I could be wrong. “Midway” is named after Bally Midway, the company that had the distribution rights for Pac-Man in the US during the early 80s, which also developed numerous Pac-Man games without Namco’s involvement, with the first one being Ms. Pac-Man in 1982. Ms. Pac’s grumpy expression is original to this mod and I’m not sure why it was done, but I like to think it’s because she’s not allowed to appear in games anymore due to copyright issues. One part of the song has a motif from the startup jingle to Ms. Pac-Man. Pinky also has a change in expression during this song, a reference to her crush on Pac-Man, and thus dislike of Ms. Pac-Man. “Cornered” got its name from how the ghosts usually catch you in the classic games by cornering you. The background has the ghosts’ “suits” hung up, which is in reference to the 1982 Pac-Man cartoon, which is how that cartoon explained the ghosts’ ability to respawn after being eaten; their eyes just enter a new ghost suit. You go against each ghost in the opposite order of when they come out of the ghost house. The ghosts turning blue is a reference to when Pac-Man eats a Power Pellet, allowing him to eat the ghosts. The ghosts’ personalities are pretty spot-on, with Clyde being timid, Inky being joyful and carefree, Pinky having some sass before getting angry, and Blinky being the overconfident hot-headed leader. During Blinky’s portion of the song, Pac-Man comes in by rev-rolling, a staple move Pac-Man has in the Pac-Man World series of games. The little jump he does also plays the jumping sound effect from Pac-Land. “Moodshift” is based on the 1994 Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis game, Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, known in Japan as Hello! Pac-Man. That game didn’t have the player controlling Pac-Man directly, but rather an off-screen entity that guides Pac-Man using voice commands and a slingshot that you can use to shoot at objects, hence the first-person perspective. You can also use the slingshot to shoot at Pac-Man, which is referenced by Boyfriend throwing the mic at him. Pac-Man’s emotions are a big part of that game, and has a wide variety of moods and over-the-top expressions, which are seen here. The background is Pac-Man’s front yard from that game, you can see his house on the right. Pac-Man’s voice here is taken directly from Pac-Man’s voice clips from the Super Nintendo version. “Ghostly” is based on and named after Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, a cartoon that ran from 2013-2015, and was meant to be a reboot for the franchise, featuring a younger Pac-Man in highschool and a new world and story, though this take on Pac-Man has been retired, with Bandai Namco having now reverted back to the classic characters and canon. The background is set in Pacopolis, the show’s main setting. The two characters in the background with Girlfriend are Cyli and Spiral, Pac’s friends from the show and major characters. Partway through the song, Skeebo takes over battling Pac. Skeebo is a recurring but relatively minor character in the show, being a jock who bullies Pac-Man for being yellow. The part with the dramatic lighting is in reference to Season 1, Episode 24, “Robo Woes”, where he is shown to be a talented singer (the same episode also shows Pac himself is a terrible singer, so this part of the mod is pretty ironic.) He gets taken away by Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde, who in this canon are friends with Pac-Man and warn him of Betrayus’s schemes and ghost attacks. “Mania” is named after Pac-Mania, and the song itself is a remix of Pac-Man’s Park, the second level of that game. Despite that, Boyfriend is playing on an original US Pac-Man cabinet. Pac-Man’s voice in this song is the original dot-eating sound effect. The other cabinets in the background are Dig Dug and Galaga, two other classic Namco arcade games. Girlfriend is wearing a new outfit based on 80s fashion, fitting since Pac-Man came out in 1980 and is considered an icon of that decade. The characters gathered around watching Boyfriend are actually the developers of this mod! You can see them in the credits. “Dig” is based on and named after the 1982 arcade game Dig Dug. While Dig Dug itself isn’t a Pac-Man game, it has been referenced in numerous Pac-Man games, with Pooka in particular being a recurring character in the Pac-Man series. Boyfriend and Girlfriend are now the two enemy types from the game, Pooka and Fygar respectively. Taizo Hori (the main character of Dig Dug) has had numerous designs in various games, but his design here is based on the original arcade cabinet artwork for Dig Dug. The song itself is a remix of the Dig Dug theme. The theme from the short cutscene is a jingle that plays in Dig Dug when too much time has passed and the enemies become more aggressive, and the jingle that plays when the song is over is the game over theme. “Freebase” is based on a RU-vid video from 2006 titled Here Comes Pacman, about Pac-Man offering crack to two guys, being denied, then proceeding to smoke it himself. The audio actually comes from the song “Mope” by Bloodhound Gang, released in 1999. Unlike all the references in all the other songs, this isn’t from any official Pac-Man product, but it has become a meme within the Pac-Man fandom, so it’s pretty iconic in its own right. Pac-Man and the guys’ voices are also taken from the video. The title comes from the quote Pac-Man says in the video, “Wanna freebase?”
