Paddle Imua 2024 - My POV from the race on a kite.
Good vibes and exciting times at this event!
I had a great race this year. Near the end, I made a stop to pick up my little girl, Lou, so we could ride the last bit and cross the finish line together!
Paddle Imua is an annual race supporting Camp Imua, a recreational camp experience for children in Maui County with special needs. Paddle Imua brings the ocean sports community together to embrace our innate connection to the sea and celebrate the lives of our local children.
It felt appropriate to bring Lou along for the experience. For those who don’t know, Lou has a rare neuro-genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome. Lou may be on a different trajectory, developmentally, from that of most kiddos her age, but her stoke level is through the roof.
Delighted that we managed to get 3rd overall and 1st with a kite. Huge congrats to Andrea for taking the win on the 7.3m Fusion. Andrea had a crazy time of 18:15 from Maliko to Kanaha (including the beach run). If he were 10 seconds faster, he would have beaten my 2023 course record.
So much fun pushing the limits with an amazing group for a beautiful cause.
