I paddled the Flambeau with a friend from Turtle Dam to Ladysmith in late April 1972.

Been meaning to paddle the Flambeau for the whole 22 years I've lived in northern Wisconsin -- maybe this will get me on the water. Thanks for a great primer.

You barely even mentioned the EXCELLENT fishing on the Flambeau! Next to the Petewawa in Ontario this is THE best river in North America to canoe whitewater, then catch world class pickeral & Musky. The occasional 4lb Smallmouth might hit your jig/Musky lure. It should be a must paddle for every North American canoeist.

What the heck kind of snake is that at 4:50 ? I didn't think you had much snakes that far up north?

+James C. Not sure. I try not to get close enough to snakes to identify them. :)

It looks like a fox snake to me, and fox snakes are found in that area. As far as "much snakes" goes, there may not be a lot of different species that far north, but some of the ones found in that area are abundant.
