@@kyle9513 Moving fielders out of position to cover where the ball is likely to go. This was invented decades ago but was mostly limited to coming in, moving out, or hanging left or right based on handedness. Nowadays with new technology, we know the exact path of every ball, the exact match up of every pitcher, spin rates, ball arc, batting stances, everything. Therefore, a team can run a few million simulations on every batter in every pitcher matchup and determine the best location to place every fielder to guarantee outs. This has basically led to less small ball and more home run focused teams (after all, the shift doesn't matter if you hit it out of the park). Teams like the Cleveland Guardians had an advantage in that they had a record youngest roster and the most rookies without recorded stars, on top of excellent fielding and speedy baserunning that beat the trend. But that's an anomaly. As shown in the Yankees series, all that matters right now in baseball is hitting a few home runs. Banning defensive shift and increasing base size should greatly increase the number of balls in play.

@@kyle9513 Back in the 90s, rosters would place their best hitters in slots 1, 2, and 3, then a power hitter in the 4th at bat for cleanup. This was so ingrained in a fundamentals of baseball, that most people assumed that's just what you did. But now look at a team like the Guardians: Francona would place his best hitter, Adres Gimenez, ninth on the lineup. On the Yankees, Boone would place his best home run hitter, Aaron Judge, first in the lineup. It doesn't make sense until you realize that the game is kinda messed up right now with how powerful defense is.

As a Giants fan I relish anytime SD or LAD lose, but the Phillies are playing with a sense of focus but loose 👌

I remember a game in '93 on their way to the world series, they were down 8-0 going into the 9th. The Macho Men got the bats going and the next thing you know, they won the game. Maybe not the best game to watch, but the way they came back was UNREAL! This team has the same capability and determination. AWESOME!

True,but they have got to win today. They were so jacked up and everything went perfect offensively that it is bound to be much more difficult. If they lose today, especially getting 2 or fewer runs the Padres are right back in it, and certainly more than capable of winning 2 in a row on their home field.

Also the Phillies coming back from 4-0 and immediately responding to Soto's 2 run shot. Anyone who's seen a baseball game knows that was an amazing game.

I don’t feel that. That team was really special and just had that IT feeling. I don’t feel that with this team and I think I say that because of how inconsistent this team can be. Yeah Bryce has been hot this postseason and hasn’t Cooled off but Rhys, Schwarber, castellanos are so inconsistent and strike out more then they hit. I think we’ll close out this series but we’re not beating the Astros in the WS. I just don’t see it.

I'm very surprised both LCS' could potentially finish very soon. Astros are on a rampage and Phillies continue to score consistently when needed. Safe money seems to be on those 2 teams to make it to the final dance.

@@here4boxing No, it's not. If you go by ERA, Aaron Nola was the 23rd best starting pitcher in the league during the regular season. If you watched him pitch this season, you'd know he was far better than that. WHIP is easily the first or second most important stat for a pitcher. Nola had the 7th best WHIP among starting pitchers, which is much closer to where he would actually rank among starting pitchers during the regular season.

Not only wildcard, sub 90 wins, knocked out defending champs. Playing another sub 90 win club who knocked out two 100 win teams. One with the bats, the other with the pitching. And waiting for them is the absolute monster in Houston who is undefeated. I wonder whats stronger, the astros undefeated streak, or philly's homefield undefeated streak. Im really looking forward to how the story ends :)

Through all the ups and downs this season I always thought that if they made they made the playoffs they would be a problem. They have exceeded my expectations. I finally got the answer to my main question I’ve had. What would happen if everyone started hitting the way they should. Tonight was a glimpse of how devastating they really can be.

IMO, the '80 NLCS between the Phillies and Astros was off the hook. The WS between the Braves and Twins was incredible as well.
