This color educational film produced by the J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company in conjunction with the Wisconsin Centennial Exposition of 1948 celebrates “50 centuries of farming” with a survey of modern agricultural technologies and innovations (TRT 21:04).
Closeup on a blue ribbon award from the ASAE committee on extension (0:08). Opening titles (0:17). A J.I. Case Co. exhibition pavilion from the Wisconsin Centennial Exposition. Signs proclaim: “The March of Machines” and “5000 Years of Plowing” (0:57). Midwestern visitors fill bleachers in the summertime (1:03). An announcer in sunglasses stands before a microphone underneath a Case-branded umbrella. A brass band plays in red bandanas and blue overalls (1:20). Title card: “Parade of Plows.” A dramatic title scroll invokes the struggles of early man (1:42). Surrounded by crowds of exposition onlookers, two costumed “cavemen” carry and drag crude forked tree branches (2:05). Bare chested men with pseudo-Egyptian cloth head coverings haul bales of hay. One man whips two hunched “slaves” who pull a primitive plow (2:24). A man in “biblical” dress leads a team of oxen (2:41). Title card: “...famine was a frequent visitor...” (3:14). Oxen drive a 1800’s style covered conestoga wagon full of women in pioneer dress depicting western settlers. A colonial plow mounted on the wagon is demonstrated with the pull of a rope (3:31). A man in pioneer dress pulls a plow through a grassy field (4:16). A man in a fringed western-style outfit stands walks behind a horse-drawn steel plow. The pioneer man plows with greater ease, using a replica 1837 steel plow (4:40). A man in a hat rides a three-wheel plow drawn by three horses (5:06). A “little yankee” style swivel plow and an Emerson foot lift plow of the late 1800’s (5:14). A 1912 Case Model 20-40 gas tractor plow (5:57). A lighter 1913 Case 12-25 tractor plow (6:28). A 1915 Grand Detour tractor plow (6:56). A 1936 Case Centennial Tractor Plow with a rear tiller wheel on parade and in action in a field (7:04). Title Card: “The March of Machines” (8:17). A man in costume leads four horses around a post in a demonstration of treading, a primitive form of threshing (8:39). Flailing is demonstrated by people with scythes in colonial dress (9:03). A winnowing basket (9:33). A map depicts the westward Great Lakes route of Jerome I. Case from Williamstown, NY, to Racine, WI (9:59). A 1940’s groundhog thresher, powered by a horse on a treadmill. Men and women rake and bundle stalks of wheat straw (10:22). An 1869 Case Eclipse thresher. Women bag grain (11:40). An 1869 Case #1 steam-engine thresher. The engine blows its whistle (12:12). Horses hooves in closeup (13:03). Horses power an 1880 Case Agitator as a man uses a pitchfork to load bales of hay (13:08). A steam engine thresher in action (13:56). Whistle signals are demonstrated for the exposition crowd (15:25). Horses pull a wagon loaded with bales of hay (16:02). A horse-drawn water wagon hurries to refill the steam engine (16:31). A 1929 Model L internal combustion gas tractor (17:34). A red Case Combine thresher demonstrates increased yields (18:04). A combine harvester cuts and threshes row-crops (18:53). A 1940 Case slicer bales straw into neat cubes (19:21). Grain pours out of a chute. Multiple grain chutes fill the hold of a cargo ship (20:00). A United States flag flaps in the breese (20:34). The silhouette of a bald eagle over a sunset (20:46).
The Case Corporation was founded in 1842 by Jerome Increase Case, and manufactured agricultural and construction equipment. In the late 1800’s, Case was among America’s largest builders of steam engines, tractors, and threshing machines. They also produced machinery for the U.S. Army. In the 1950’s, the company pivoted to producing construction equipment. This film was produced in cooperation with the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago; the Edison Institute of Dearborn, Michigan; the McCormick Historical Association, Chicago; and the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

My dad worked as a press operater at J.I.Case after he served in WW-II. He might have made some of the parts in this video

I'd rather watch old films of anything over anything on TV today. My personal favorites are silent films.
