Hi, it's Lois here, today's demo looks at painting a 'line and wash' style-painting of an Irish lighthouse with a lake and mountains against a backdrop of a stormy sky. I'm using a waterproof fine liner and watercolour washes from a limited palette of Payne's grey, raw sienna, sap green,, sepia and perylene green. I use masking fluid to protect the white buildings which means I can paint my sky more freely using the wet in wet technque, then paint the rocky outcrop using the wet on dry technique.
I'm not worried about keeping things perfect, but trying to suggest detail and looking for atmosphere, and light and shadow.

I'm using Millford cold pressed paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, but use whichever size you prefer.
The focus is on painting loose, concentrating on staying loose and getting atmosphere, light and shadow across the landscape, trying to capture the wildness of this beautiful Irish landscpe.
