I am actually painting on binder but I usually paint on canvas. See my website for more designs and surfaces :) I am using Acrylic folkart paint made by plaid. The colors are berry wine, thicket and wicker white. The brush is the most important... I used a # 3/4 Plaid one stroke brush #1171A or you can use a # 12 Plaid One Stroke # 1058 if you are painting smaller. Be certain it is a ONE STROKE brush or you will not get the right effect :) mypaints.com

It is not a dumb question! Thank you for asking. Pre-wash garment before painting to remove any sizing. Paint on your design. Let dry for 24 hours, then heat set by placing a cloth over the painted area and pressing firmly with iron (no steam) for about 20 seconds with heat set for appropriate fabric. Can be washed in gentle cycle and air-dried. I would do a test piece just to be sure as you would hate to ruin it. Different fabric can be tricky.

Saloni, I am glad that you find the video's helpful. Practice and the proper brush is most important. Use a # 12 or 3/4 one stroke brush. The brush is the most important and you can find it at Michaels, or Joanns usually. Be sure that it is a One Stroke brush :) My in home art classes are the best but I understand that you aren't able..I hope to find the time to do a hydrangea video in the future.

Thanks for your questions Carole..I am using folkart paint made by plaid. It is about 1.25 a bottle. I do not add anything to make them thicker but they are thicker than most bottled paint. The brush is # 12 or 3/4 one stroke brush. The brush is the most important and you can find it at Michaels, or Joanns usually. Be sure that it is a One Stroke or it will not hold the paint right and you will not be able to make a fine chisel edge :)

Thank You! If you are having trouble may I suggest that you start with my other video..paint a daisy or paint rosebuds and fruit? These are easier and you should have very good luck starting with something a bit easier. Use a # 12 or 3/4 one stroke brush. The brush is the most important and you can find it at Michaels, or Joanns usually. Be sure that it is a One Stroke brush :)

If you have any problems doing the rose please check out my other videos as they are a bit easier..the rosebud is very easy and then you can go on to the harder flowers. Remember that the brush is the most important :) . I used a # 3/4 Plaid one stroke brush #1171A or you can use a # 12 Plaid One Stroke # 1058 if you are painting smaller. I am using Folkart acrylic. I do paint in oil but in my classes that I teach I always use acrylic because it dries quickly and clean up is so easy. You must use a # 12 or 3/4 one stroke brush. The brush is the most important and you can find it at Michaels, or Joanns usually. Be sure that it is a One Stroke. If you have trouble please watch my other videos as they will really help you :)

Thank You Gloria! I did a lot of practicing and I also teach classes but I first started painting in the year 2000 so I haven't been at it for that long. I suggest you start with the rosebuds..they are super easy and then go to the harder strokes. Please watch my other videos..especially "rosebuds and fruit" and" paint a daisy." They will help you :) Please subscribe to my channel and hit the "Like" button :)

I am not using anything to make it shine. I think it is the binder that I am working on that makes it looke that way. When I work I canvas I use a triple thick Krylon spray when I am finished and it will make it look like an oil painting. I am painting very fast and using a lot of paint so it doesn't dry as quickly. But if I don't use the spray on the canvas when I am finished, it will look matte. If you use a binder, don't spray as it may crack :)

Hi, Thanks for asking..I am using theDonna Dewberry Onestroke brush and the size is 3/4. You can buy these at the craft store like Michaels or Joann's. The brush is the most important because it is a synthetic brush and has a bit longer and thinner hair. The colors and paint are answered in the comment below. I hope that you will "like" and subscribe to my channel :) Thanks, Mary

Thank you :) It is a # 3/4 size brush for this rose..These brushes are called Plaid One Stroke donna dewberry brushes :) You can usually buy these at Joann's, Michaels, or most craft stores :) Some people do like to use the # 12 but I find it too small unless the rose is small. It is the most important thing about painting these roses as these brushes have less hair and the hair is longer, allowing you to make a nice chisel edge.Hope this helps. The paint is folkart acrylic paint.

Hi Teresa, I use folkart paint. You can paint it on a canvas, wood, binder, etc. It is your choice. I even paint on clothing. I would suggest that you practice a lot first. Also, if you watch the daisies or the rosebuds and fruit video's of mine you will find them easier and then you can go onto the roses :)

Perhaps you could order the brushes? I am thinking that if you do a google search for "Donna Dewberry One stroke brushes" or just "One Stroke brush" you may be able to get them that way. They are a synthetic brush with longer hairs and they are thinner, making it easier to keep a nice sharp chisel edge. I do hope that you are able to find them.

Yes, I mostly paint on canvas but this is a binder. They are very easy to paint on and you don't have to put on a background. I would start just doing the rosebuds. Then you can move onto the full rose. I was painting on a binder in this video. If you are on paper you will want to spray it often with water. It is harder to paint on paper. You could try it on a canvas or on wood but using to wax paper or delit paper to practice is the best idea :) Best of luck! Let me know how you do :)

@littleluluscraps Yes, you must really load the brush with paint but it is important that you blend it well so that you don't see lines in your stokes. If it starts to get muddy on the white, just wipe the white side off and reload with white, blending again before going back on the rose. Hope this helps :)

@ukspikes I am so glad that I have inspired you! These are folkart paints..colors of your choice:) but I used berry wine, thicket,sunflower and white. The brush is 3/4 Onestroke and I didn't use any medium..just paint and if it it gets too dry you can mist it very lightly with water :)

@kayjo101 It is Folkart acrylic paint :) I have answered it numerous times in the comments but I realize that I did not mention it in the actual video. You can buy this paint at Joann's or Michaels..if you can't find it you can use another brand but these work the best.
@marysart1
@marysart1 12 лет назад
@Dafnadill Yes, the type of brush is the most important..you can use other paint but the brush must be right or you will not get the nice strokes. You can usually find the brushes and the paint at a Michael's or Joann's. Most craft stores will have them.
@marysart1

The brush that I am using in this video is a 3/4 Plaid Onestroke Donna Dewberry Flat. The brush is very important because it must be thin and the hair is a bit longer than the regular brushes. You can buy these brush's through Michaels or Joann's or go the Official Onestroke site.

Good for you! I was a late starter too..picked up the brush for the first time 12 years ago and now I can't stop. Be sure to get the One Stroke brushes and use acrylic paint.. The daisy video that I made might be easier to start with :)

@marysart1 12 лет назад
No, you can use anything although I think fabric is a bit harder. I usually use a canvas but I also like to paint on gift bags and they work great for practice. I just use computer paper when my students practice. Hope you try it :)
@marysart1
@marysart1 12 лет назад
You could use card stock but I am working on a binder..or you can use a canvas if you like. If you use a card, be sure to spray with water often or the paint will not flow. If you use a small surface you need to paint your rose smaller. Hope this helps :)
@marysart1
@marysart1 13 лет назад
@xTHx1 No, I do not use the floating medium. I think it makes the paint muddy. If you need to thin it (I didn't) use a very light spray of water. Sometimes if you are on a canvas you will need to use the spray. Happy painting :)

@marysart1
@marysart1 11 лет назад
I love painting on Binders and they make the best gifts..be sure that it does not have the clear see through plastic on it though as the paint will lift on these. The paint will last forever on the plain ones.
@marysart1
@marysart1 11 лет назад
I am not sure that the water colors would be thick enough..and the brush is so important. If you get a chance, watch the rosebuds and fruit video and that will tell you the brush and paint that I am using. :) Mary

yes, I am using Folkart paint. You can use other paint but folkart is a bit thicker so I like it better :) I hope you will subscribe to my channel as I paint other stuff too. Mountains, daisys, trees,etc.
@marysart1
@marysart1 12 лет назад
Yes, I usually paint on canvas but these little painted binders make awesome gifts :) Just put on any color of background that you like, then paint the rose. A very dark blue or black willl make the rose "pop". Enjoy :)
@marysart1
@marysart1 12 лет назад
The reason for the binders is because they are fast, easy, and they make very nice inexpensive but personal gifts..also, you don't have seal them because the paint last forever :) I hope you will give it a try!
@marysart1
@marysart1 12 лет назад
@chloefay6 Yes, it is a binder..they make the greatest gifts but be sure that it doesn't have the clear plastic insert over it. Just the cheap plain ones are the best and the paint does not lift evn after much use :)
@marysart1
@marysart1 12 лет назад
@luckyandhachi yes, I always encourage people to use the colors that they love :) Have fun. Some colors cover betther than others so it is good to try different combinations. I love painting "Blue roses".
@marysart1
@marysart1 13 лет назад
@3Musketeerscandy Any color will work. My favorite is sage green but I would use a color that is in your home. Black will really make them "pop" Experiment with different colors and the practice will be very valuable.

@marysart1 13 лет назад
@greeneyes011765 I like to use the angle brush to make the comma stroke in the big rose..my students find it much easier but I don't really use it too much. It is good to experiment and use the brush that you like the best.
@marysart1
@marysart1 11 лет назад

You really should NOT put anything over it like a sealer..the paint will stick and you are better off not to seal this, unlike a canvas. You would seal that.

@AmuletLoveAngel Yes, do try it..and remember, I didn't pick up a brush I was 50 so you have lots of time to practice :) I never how much fun it could be!

@misstisdale85 Thank You! I am painting on a binder because I like to paint all kinds of surfaces. You can paint on a canvas, glass, etc. Whatever you like :)

Good for you! Let me know how it goes and please remember that the brush is the most important-it must be a one stroke brush to get the right effect :)

Thank you..I really hope that it works for you. I always say to start with the rosebuds, then go on to the large rose. I wish you happy painting :)

@IdaTheAdventurer I should have put the brushes on the video..I used a 3/4 Plaid Donna Dewberry brush. You can buy them at most Michaels or Joann's.

@DERF69ER I am sorry that it didn't work for you. Did you use folk art paint? It does take some practice. Start by just trying to do the rosebuds.
