I feel like I just watched a 3rd grader did a school project...Fabric moves and streches, the pigment needs to soak inside the fiber to stay. Unless this chair is a piece of decoration to look at, this "upgrade" will fail soon. I don't think the owner has extra room for such a large "decoration".
I know!!! I almost cried! Also I can't believe she just found that on the street. Here in Ireland a chair like that would cost about 300 dollars. I'm wailing.
I don't believe her reaction... She had to pretend for the show. I think that the trim should have been done in a different color to make the chair stand out.
It was wayyyy to grandma before. It turned out really beautiful. Will be doing this with a headboard I have. Thanks for the tips! Also can you tell us what the mixture ratio was on this of French Linen and Old White?? Beautiful work!
I painted 2 pairs of canvas sneakers I didn't wear and one was a beautiful curry yellow. I got so many compliments. since that mustardy color was so hot this year, everybody wanted to know where I got those shoes and wanted a pair badly. I should have purchased a bunch of sizes of inexpensive canvas sneakers and painted a bunch of them and sold them for three or four times the price I bought them. I have been looking for 2 years for a pair of red pointy toe flats. And I never could find them in my size for under $100. I didn't want to pay that much for a pair of shoes I would wear occasionally. I was at Walmart when day and they had two different colors of pointy-toed flats which they never have. They had a faux suede in a funky mushroom color for $9! And it was my size and they were cute as far as the shape went. So I snatched him up, went over to the craft section and bought some red chalk paint. I went home and painted those things and every time they dried I put another layer on. I ended up with about five or six coats oh, but I may not have had to put that many they looked fabulous. No more than to my family gathering on Christmas and I was telling my aunt and cousin that I had painted them they were all floored. They couldn't believe how consistent the color was and how saturated and full the color was
I've been desperate to paint a family vintage ottoman. This video has inspired m to get on with it, there is a wicker chair that goes with it😀. Annie Sloan chalk paint, here I come❣❣
I don't mind the painted chair. It definitely needs a contrast color on the wood part of the chair. Even just use a darker grey. I would also paint the nail heads silver.
I thought the comments were harsh and critical. Then I fast forwarded to the end of the video. The chair was far more beautiful before it was painted. Perhaps it can be painted again?
Chalk paint on a chair seat is going to chip and crack even if you wax it everyday. How do you clean paint out of fabric? How do you make sure that you won't damage the frame when cleaning the paint?
@@lisayist actually it doesn’t. What it does is more dye the fabric than paint it. It doesn’t crack. Why must you say negative things about something you don’t understand?
Best results always take more time and effort, usually $$. You get what you pay for, and that includes the value of a person's work. If I dyi then I'm "saving money", but I'm actually exchanging the money my work is worth for the final product. This video shows what a quickie, 45 minute job, gives for results. Sometimes you don't need to waste your money, which is time and effort, on certain projects. Balance. And many people don't have a lot of extra time. Good day.
I used chalk paint on two chairs and they turned out great! This year I decided to redo them in a different color and completely forgot to add water to the material and it’s crackling to the touch. I’m not sure if I should sand and redo with water/chalk paint or just reupholster them. Help!
Fun video. This isn’t an expensive chair to begin with so changing it up is (for me) good. My tastes change over the years (except for a few investment pieces). Didn’t realize you can paint fabric ! Does it have to be light and not a printed design to work? I have an old chair with a grey and blue print that someone was going to throw out. Hmm.....
Amanda, I Loved what you did! honestly though, I thought the piece was beautiful as is. Good to know the technique though!! I might have painted the wood but that's it.
Hi Josee! Here's more information on Annie's site about the Clear Chalk Paint Wax: www.anniesloan.com/annie-sloan-products/annie-sloan-waxes-and-finishes/clear-chalk-paint-wax. Hope this helps!
Right they didn't even test it to see if the paint didn't stain your clothes or if it's crispy or crunchy cause paint dried and so does water I didn't see her seal or wax it
Nice, can i paint wool rug and jute? I have a jute zig zag rug..one row is jute and the other row is wool. The wool was originally soft and a cream white...it has been soiled by people just walking on it, like its turned grey in the middle. Could i use a whiteish colour to cover it in chalk paint?, would i have to use a wax over it many thanks
Hi sammy sammy! We checked Annie's website and did find one project where she stenciled a pattern on a burlap rug. Take a look: www.anniesloan.com/techniques/making-up-a-stencilled-rug. Hope this helps!
It looks like the original fabric just needed to be cleaned. That gold being rubbed on the studs is the only change that was needed. That chair was beautiful before. The after was alright.
Everyone keep saying that they ruined this chair. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The designed in the fabric popped with the applied grey paint I hope that she will leave the back and sides of the chair original material untouched to give it the two tone effects mixed modern with traditional style. After all, the chair looks fabulous.
Hi Diana Strauss! Glad you liked it! There's an inspiration section on Annie Sloan's website that might give you some ideas. Check it out! www.anniesloan.com/inspiration
I usually LOVE painted chairs... but when she painted over the brads (Tacks), I about fainted. This looks like a chair that has been (just) plainly painted. No contrast... The wood work could have been a different color... The Tack colors should have been natural (not painted). This is just monotone .... boring... (I am a Furniture Refinisher... many years worth). SAD...
Rose V. I’m thinking about trying to chalk paint a wing chair but needs to watch some more videos like this. Glad that this type of videos are available for absolute beginners like myself.
She named all the colors she liked and they did all white. Looks like a guest room chair for clothes. A nice latte color with white trim would of been more useful looking for a living room. I'm watching these videos and they are using white.
I did this with an old ottoman it definitely changed the fabric texture (little "crunchy"/rough feeling idk if I'd do it on anything other than an accent piece
The Design Network ABSOLUTELY!!!! Especially after watching this video. Thank you for your AWESOME DESIGN ideas and thorough instructions. I can't wait to highlight with that gold. Thanks again!!!
I've watched videos from you and others re painting chair fabric. The one thing I still don't know is what kind of wax??? No one gives a brand or type of wax to buy. Is it called fabric wax or is there a brand I can search for? I think you did a good job but, in my opinion, there should've been a contrast between the wood and fabric. That would've made it pop! Either dark/darker wood or a darker fabric paint...like a medium gray. I watched another video where they painted the fabric white and the wood was nearly black...very striking.
Hi Kristine! Here's a video that shows Amanda waxing an upholstered chair that she's painted, and she shares a lot of good information (including the wax she's using). Hope this helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dShwokUKoAY.html
*Crying* my home is 113 years old, and the chair as it was would have been perfect. I like the concept of changing up a piece inexpensively, but IMHO, this changed from a lovely chair into a bland and blah chair.
Not sure why all the negative comments!! The chair looks a THOUSAND times better than the old one, outstanding job, I absolutely LOVE the new chair!!! GORGEOUS!!!
I thought it was gonna look awful after reading comments. It was not but I would prefer color. The owner of the chair obviously wanted a neutral color.
Hi +sandy girl! You can find the nearest Annie Sloan stockist by going to: www.anniesloan.com/stockists/#/. They should be able to answer any questions you have about resin mirrors. Good luck, and if you end up painting one, let us know how it turns out!
Hi Karen! Here's what it says on the Tips page of the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint website regarding painting upholstery or leather: When it comes to painting upholstery, small items which are firmly upholstered (such as a dining chair seat) and made from natural fabric (such as cotton or linen) give the best results. In these cases, Chalk Paint® can be diluted with water and painted on as a 'wash' which will stain the fibres. Fabric that is painted in this way does not require to be waxed afterwards. Take a look at our video tutorial for more on this technique. There are other ways to paint upholstery, but the success of painting any upholstered piece does depend on factors such as the condition, colour and composition of the fabric, how firmly it is upholstered, and the colour you are using (reds are less colourfast). For any project, we would recommend testing in a small area first before you commit to painting the whole piece. As a general rule, we don’t recommend painting very cushioned sofas or suites or items that get very heavy use. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques either - applying the paint more thickly will change the composition of the fabric, making it stiffer. This can then be waxed and buffed to create a leather effect. You can also use Chalk Paint® on leather and vinyl - build up the coverage in thin coats, and then wax to finish. As the leather creases and cracks with age, so will the paint, so bear this in mind on well-worn or cushioned items. Want to know more? Each Annie Sloan Stockist can offer you more information and practical advice on these and other tips from the Annie Sloan Method.
Who cares about the chair. Did you see the brunette ? Absolutely breathtaking 💯 I couldn't keep my eyes off of her , Thoese eyes , her hair and and that voice. Wow..... 😁
When she started painting the chair, she didn't spray enough water on the fabric and the paint was just too thick . It needed more water . When the other girls started to help pain oh, she's never even sprayed the chair with water at all.
Hi Estephania! We're not sure whether you can use Annie's Chalk Paint on countertops, but you might want to check out the Techniques section on her site. She does show how to paint on marble, kitchen cabinets, etc. Hoping you'll find a great idea there! www.anniesloan.com/techniques
Roadside chair, reminded me of this episode of Big Bang Theory! Always make sure those curbside pieces are NOT occupied! LOL ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W7JvTtpOjU0.html
Hi Penelope! Here's a video from Amanda that shows wax application on another upholstered chair. Hope this is helpful! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dShwokUKoAY.html
I like muted colors but this just made the chair look fake bc it's all one matte color so t looks like a plastic Barbie chair. The gold highlight doesn't stick out at all. It's a good concept but I don't think I like the end result of this particular chair.
