Love it! The technique is one the opens so many possibilities for my future projects and Studio R12 has so many great stencils to choose from. Thank you Kari for sharing and showing that it is important to have a plan, but adjust as you go to work through the painting process. Great tutorial!
This has been a great lesson. The techniques of where to place the main stencil down the putting the overlay on top. Has answered a few questions for another stencil I need to this with. And it’s a Christmas one. Thank you so much for showing us how good paisley looks on different stencils.
Thanks for all of your videos!! For the shellac to prevent bleed through of the knots in the wood, can you use it before a wood stain instead of painting the board? I’m wanting to stain the board a light to medium brown color & use white letters. I don’t want the bleed through on the white letters but wasn’t sure if the stain would work properly on top of the shellac?
Hey there! So we haven't actually tried this, but we have an idea we are going to test. You are correct that the stain won't work on top of the shellac. But we are going to test staining the surface, then placing our stencil where we want it, shellac through the stencil, let it dry, then do the stenciling - so we are only using the shellac where the paint would go to try to prevent the bleedthrough. Note - If you are in a hurry to try this, you may want to do a test of your own and see how you like it. We will be able to tell you soon how it initially turns out, but we won't know about the sap bleedthrough until some time has passed.
