The Pilot 19 was designed by Mark Ellis and built by Holby Marine in Bristol RI. Great boat, sadly they did not build many. Excellent work, I have learned a lot from your channel. Using the airbrush is genius!
I've to send my thanks to You a your channel. Becaouse of them and their knowledge transmited I was able yo do by myself a complete restoration of a 18ft SPORT boat, doing a complete transom and floor replacement, and entire paint work. Thanks a Lot from argentina
Small world! I just saw on your Alexseal-can that Alexseal is a Mankiewicz-brand. Mankiewicz was founded in Hamburg, Germany in 1895 and has its head office in the Georg-Wilhelm-Straße in Hamburg, just about 500 yards from where I live...... 😂😂😂 Greetings from Germany and keep up the good work!
Really nice job! I have a 22 foot sisu, Emerald saffire blue hull, petit paint, its so nice to see how a pro does a touch up. I dont have room for an air compressor, so i do it all by hand, 3000 grit, then automotive rubbing compound, then wax. The product you used looks like it gave flawless results, nice job!
Pretty sure that Pilot 19 is a plans built plywood boat. Plans are available on bateau website (called the Pilot 19, funny enough). From everything I've read on it, it's a good riding boat.
I had one and kick myself for getting rid of it. It was made by Holby Marine in Bristol Rhode Island. Holby sold to Roth Bilt Boats in Maine, I think around 2013-14. I’ve noticed that in the background of so many videos and thought it looked like a Holby. I believe it was a Mark Ellis design. Thanks for all the great videos.
Guessing you are an AVE fan as well😊 (from the focus you -ck comment), me too! Love your content and demeanor Andy! God’s blessings on you , your family and your endeavors.
The paint touch up seems flawless. If the owner is that particular it must be difficult to let the kids take her out and put in a few scratches. I blame it on the kids. I would never put a scratch on her myself, really, it wasn’t me, it was the other guy! Thanks for your excellent work as always.
First, thanks for all the great videos and insight. So I have to do a lot of touch-up on two small commercial sightseeing boats. Bunch of different captains of varying skill levels. Plus a current that rips. Is there a specific air brush you prefer? At what point do I fill the spot before painting? Would it be when I can see cloth? Depth of the ding? Hope all these videos make you some $$$. You deserve it.
Some plastic corner edging could be useful for protection from further damage Have you ever considered making a jig to make your own model of sailboats, small modern skips with no sterns keeping water out like modern small or even large sailboats?
Put some stainless rub strips where the damage keeps repeating, e.g. on the corners. Epoxy/graphite is more abrasion resistant. Epoxy with silicon carbide grit laughs impolitely at scrapes. Do use the UV safe stuff. Polyester resin loaded with graphite or grit might work.
That's the first boat that I have ever seen where the splashwell/ engine mount area opens onto to the open floor of the boat. It must have a constant deck drainage system designed into it.
Now introducing, Boat Works Yesterday. Lol Totally joking Andy, I have watched your program for years and look forward to seeing what projects you come up with in the future.
I grew up in South Florida and have been a boat owner / operator since the late 1970s owning 17:or 18 vessels throughout the years. I had never seen or heard of a Pilot 19 but in all honesty she looks like a nice hull design , as usuall Andy your work looks Fabulous even with a Fly getting involved in the process
I assume you had the existing paint or flowcoat from before. What would happen if you had to match the paint? Light colours is straight forward but dark colours are more complex?
Great job, would you happen to know what kind of bottom paint is on this boat. I am building a row boat (first ever) and will be leaving it in freshwater
Great touchup, great work! I see that you used Alexseal, but I am assuming 7 years ago you used Awlgrip. With that assumption, how did you get the color match so perfect?
hmm, the polishing might have a low cost replacement pad. Your wife's old pantyhose. the nylon mesh works on a rotary buffer without being a harsh abrasive.
I waxed a boat today and had wax streak marks that won’t buff out and made the inside of the boat look bad I need some advice if anyone knows why this happens
I believe he used Alexseal...his new favorite go-to paint. Watching other channels, they also have moved to it as it just seems to be a great solution.
@@boatworkstoday Just want to make sure we're talking about the same stuff... The 3M site (www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40065597/) shows a medium blue cap. And what firmness of pad did you use? Thanks
Nothing is going to change :-) I haven't done work for hire / customer jobs in a couple years; this was just one exception I've made the past couple years as it was close and convenient :-) But now that I've moved away from that area it's no longer easy for me to get to
