WOW! I love this style painting from you! Thank you for doing something different, I think you nailed this painting. TFS with us all Kevin. It's truly a fabulous painting, start to finish! Big Hugs!! Reeah.
Keven, When I had an amazing teacher when I just started painting she had us use Powdered Granit on the tree, then just use a pallet knife to cut down, the tree sort of painted itself. They were Redwood trees. I'm excited to find you.
Kevin I don't know to thanks because tommorow I got a biggest exam to art that had draw a landscape. Now i know how to draw a close up tree because before this I always do simple now I get this. I thank you 3000×
Love ALL your paintings! Been oil painting for close to 45 years. Would love to know if you always work wet on wet or if you let certain areas dry first before adding in layers.
kevin, i would like to watch you painting something that reminds a chinese landscape, with high peaks, fogs, sakuras, etc etc etc, i think it would be interesting
Kevin, Can you use acrylics in place of oils? Would you use pretty much the same method? Thank you so much. You do such a great job getting your message out.
Thanks for the question. You can (sort of) to a point. But it simply is very different. Some of the biggest differences is the thickness of the paint and the drying time. You also have to watch out for the paint drying 2 shades darker (and color shifting depending on what brand you are using) All of this being said, keep to the rules of nature and never be afraid to "dry brush blend" (one of my favorite acrylic techniques) Hope this helps. I have a few quick videos here on acrylic painting also.
Love this painting. Makes me want to add more details, somehow, to my trees I've done in Acrylics. As I've mentioned before, I don't have the room (or monies) to get into Oil painting. I would have to paint outside all the time if I ever did start with Oil colors - because of the room and the odors. My husband wouldn't like having to smell the linseed oil or whatever solvents/solutions you have to use. I probably couldn't work with them either because of having allergies like I do. But, I do like getting the inspiration from you and seeing your techniques, to change and/or highlight the Acrylic paintings I do. Your instructions have made me realize how I'm not putting enough detail on my paintings, and, that's why they always look kinda "cartoonish." Thank you for sharing your techniques with us.
I like your work. But I am subscribing to your channel only because IMLISUNEP a young specially abled boy from Nagaland, India is a big fan of your work. He is also an excellent painter. He paints with his mouth 👄
Kevin stop skipping ahead so much. You go from a blob of a building to it looking like the taj maha. You got a painting stunt double that comes and does your detail work? I want to see the tree you just did come to life from start to finish. You’re better than that! Love josh
That was great! Beautiful painting. I would love to see the entire painting. I'm afraid that I will muddy it up. The background looked great in the end painting. Thanks' for sharing.
This is excellent Kevin.... I absolutely love your painting style and your observance of light source as well as perspective and your personal need for definition of light/dark contrast.... Well done man. :)

+mishmishah7 Thanks so much for your support. I have a DVD Download that would really help with mountains. It's available here. paintwithkevin.com/dvd-digital-downloads.html
Wow, what an amazing painting. The tree looks real. I am just a beginner so I am not able to paint anything quite as intricate as your work. Your teaching with oil paint, would acrylic work as well? You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you.
+Shavauna Ronan Hey, thanks so much! Yes, many of the same techniques can be used in acrylic. However, because of the difference in drying time, some of the techniques will have to be adjusted. But a nice effect can be achieved in both mediums.
Hi Kevin. Do you also draw in digital media? We have had some users of Dogwaffle ask about how to paint trees with bark, seeing that our foliage brushes don't include the bark. I was wondering if you'd do a demo of your techniques in digital. If you need a copy of Dogwaffle (i.e. if you don't have your own digital paint program) let me know.
I do have a question I hope you can answer. It takes sometimes just days, or a week or so for them to appear. But, some of the paintings I've done have started "cracking" in certain areas. Could that be due to me having put too much paint on the canvas, or, do you know why Acrylics might "crack"? Thank you for answering if you will. And, TY for sharing your knowledge and techniques with us.
WOW The way you do paint and teach is very inspiring. I have enjoyed and learned from you .. I can watch this video all day long .. Thank you for you exist in this world to share with us your amazing talent. i am beginner with acrylic . well let say that i like to paint . Do you think that will work with acrylic colour.
Your amazing to watch...just love watching you paint...your rendering of the tree bark texture is realistic..and you achieved great depth...love this scene.. Your wonderful Kevin...history in the making..God bless. Please consider a DVD technique on rendering wood texture as in your fence with the roses... tree bark..as in this piece...and the wonderful birch bark thick like in your winter mountain scene...rocks..would really be helpful and much appreciated. Great piece...love this one..
Best work Kevin I am you're biggest fan I love to draw I am best at cooking also but my family is telling go to cooking I love draw what I do Plz tell?
your'e saving my liiiife right now dude! I specialize in portraits, but I haven't honed my realism skills as much for certain other things....tree bark and leafs is one of those rough areas for me still (just botanicals in general actually) This is great!
Very nice...great approach..at 3:34 it looks like a real pic with open space for the tree trunks. What great rendering of the tree bark..so realistic.. Happy New Year Kevin and to your family. Great way to end the yr with this amazing piece...
Watched this one twice already...the shadows, detail and colors, wow! Going to buy your paints and brush line soon. Can't wait to see the difference it'll make to my paintings😊
Sugar I sure admire your work. This painting reminds me of my river days very close to the river swamps of Chactawhatchee river in north west florida and it brings back people who have passed. Thanks
Kevin, I so like this fun painting of trees. I am a nature lover and trees make me happy. I love that you do landscapes which are so realistic to nature. Please don't change your materials. By that I mean painting weird stuff that is not appealing to nature. Keep on keeping on Kevin! I now have my hubby painting along with you which is awesome. He's never had an interest in oils or any other mediums till he started following you. I have been painting since the early 80's and I love what you paint.
Beautiful - thank you! I am transitioning from acrylics to oil painting and your paintings are so inspiring. Please know that what you do is so very appreciated and meaningful.
