Painting and weathering EA-18G Growler [Hasegawa 1/72] 

This is Hasegawa's 72 scale EA-18G Growler.
The product number is 1568, and it is the most basic kit of the Hasegawa Growler series.
It is a kit that was released in 2011 with new parts added to the F/A-18F that was released in 2003.
It is an honest scale model, but the assembly quality is lacking by current standards.
There are many headaches such as dealing with the joint lines and restoring the panel lines, and the joint lines inside the intakes are, as many of you know, the worst of the worst.
Since the base kit is an F type, the panel lines of the nose part also needs to be modified with super glue to suit the Growler, and the advanced (?) labor is very appealing(=appalling).
At this point, I think of the much cheaper and more vivid junior, the Academy kit. I know that it has better detail and assembly quality, but the snap kit has obvious limitations, and there are also errors in detail and shape, so it doesn't seem to be a great junior as expected.
For the decals, I chose the VAQ-132 Scorpions, which have a charismatic scorpion tail.
It was not easy to attach the decals that draw a large curve, to their position, and more than 100 small decals also provided a lot of hard work.
But, since the satisfaction after completion is proportional to this, I think this is a dilemma that cannot be avoided.
I used the product of Legend for the ejection seat. It is incomparable to the Hasegawa parts in terms of detail and shape, but since I glued the canopy, it doesn't show well, but, after all, this is a hobby that pursues intrinsic satisfaction...hmm...
Time has passed a lot and it takes a lot of work, but I think it is a kit that still shows a splendid appearance that suits the name of 'Hasegawa'.
I want to shout to come back to the home of airplanes, but it would be foolish to miss someone who has been living well in a new house for over 20 years. ^^

하세가와의 72스케일 EA-18G 그라울러(Growler)입니다.
제품번호는 1568번이고요, 하세가와 그라울러 시리즈의 가장 베이스가 되는 킷입니다.
2003년에 출시된 F/A-18F를 베이스로 2011년에 신규 부품들을 추가해서 출시된 킷이죠.
정직한 스케일 모형이고요, 조립성은 현재 기준으로는 아쉬운 부분이 많습니다.
이곳저곳 접합선 수정과 패널라인 복구 등의 작업이 골치 아프고요, 인테이크 내부의 접합선 수정은 많이들 아시다시피 그 중 백미라고 할 수 있습니다.
베이스 킷이 F형이기 때문에 기수 부분의 패널도 순접 등으로 그라울러에 맞게 고쳐 줘야 하는 등 고급진(?) 노역은 아주 감칠 맛이 납니다.
이쯤되면 더 저렴한 가격에 한참 생생한 후배인 아카데미 킷이 생각나는데요. 역시나 좀더 나은 디테일과 조립성을 가지고 있다고 알고 있습니만, 스냅킷의 한계점이 분명하고 디테일 및 형상의 오류도 존재하는 등 기대만큼 훌륭한 후배는 아닌 것 같습니다.
데칼은 카리스마있는 전갈 꼬리가 일품인 VAQ-132 Scorpions를 붙여 보았습니다.
큰 곡선을 그리는 데칼을 제 위치에 붙이는 것이 쉽지는 않았고 100여개의 작은 데칼들 또한 상당히 고된 노동을 제공했습니다.
그런데, 완성 후의 만족감이 이에 비례를 하다보니, 이것은 분명 피할 수 없는 딜레마인 것 같습니다.
사출좌석은 레젠드(Legend)사의 제품을 사용해 주었습니다. 하세가와 부품과는 디테일과 형상에서 비교불가인데요, 캐노피를 접착하는 바람에 제대로 보이지는 않지만, 역시나 내재적 만족을 추구하는 취미이기에...흠...
세월이 많이 흘렀고 손도 많이 가지만, '하세가와'의 이름에 걸맞게 여전히 근사한 자태를 보여주는 킷이라 생각합니다.
비행기의 명가로 다시 돌아와 달라고 외치고 싶지만, 이미 20년 넘게 새집 살림 잘하고 있는 녀석에게는 어리석은 미련이겠지요. ^^
