This is one of the loveliest painting tutorials I've come across on RU-vid. Thank you for putting your time into this. As an aspiring artist, I very much appreciate it! You make a great instructor.
This is a most interesting tutorial to date on the subject of painting hair. Thomas is clearly a lovely, humourous guy, who makes painting hair seem easy. He is a rare breed of artist who is willing to share his skill and demonstrate his technique for anyone to follow and practice. Many thanks for this great tutorial Thomas.
This is the purest RU-vid video i have seen in some time. He is not monetizing the video. He doesn't have a sponsor. he isn't telling us he has THE best way to do anything. He isn't specifing the brands a billion times at nauseum like they are the only way. He says what his preferences are, and he is really here just to tell us how to make great hair. This video is rare considering the direction most youtubers art or otherwise have gone.
Actually, it is easy. Do you remember how hard it was to learn to ride a bicycle? Yet after you did, it seemed easy. All it took was practice. Whether it's bicycling, bricklaying, welding, or painting hair (or anything else) all it takes is practice. Paint, paint, paint! And after a while you too will think it's easy. And as for paint quality, heck, cheap paint looks as good as expensive paint in most cases. The painting just may not last as long. Best wishes and thanks for the comment!
Nice to see you paint from an old photograhp and combine it with memory - great method and great demonstration and the painting if your daughter was just so filled with joy and love -
Awwww, you looked like your mom a little when you out the wig on, that's so cute! Thanks for the fun tutorial, love your sense of humor. I'll keep watching more of your videos.
Thomas you are THE best....really pleasent to watch your video. Your humor is bringing in some air in these hard high quality of paintings. Thumbsupp for your work.
Amazing. Every sentence, every brush stroke, a lesson in itself. Please God put more people on this earth who have the combined virtues of beautiful art and beautiful explanation like Thomas Baker. And thanks Utube, for helping their influence, often so rare and preciouse, to be discovered by so many.
It never ceases to amaze me how cruel people can be. How can anyone dislike this video. This kind soul has taken the time to share his talent and experience to further the ability of others. I guess the old idiom if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all has been lost in our society.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help out us "strugglers." I learned so much from you today and just want to let you know that (you) your lessons are very much appreciated!
Love your sense of humor. Watching you almost makes me go back to oils and not acrylics. I try some of your techniques with acrylics, they seem to work as well. Thank you for putting yourself and your knowledge on you tube.
watching you teach is very therapuetic..you are one of the best teacher I locate on youtube..thank you. you have good sense of humor, a content heart and of course great talent.
Love your paintings and your willingness to show exactly how you do the work. The skin, hair and teeth in your paintings are amazing. I've just started painting (using acrylics) and have decided I will only paint a portrait if the person wears a hat and does not show any teeth in their smile. I think you can actually see the love in your paintings.Thank you.
Hello Thomas, I just wanted to say that every time I paint (which is often, seeing as I am an art student) I always open up a few of your videos for inspiration and how to execute certain techniques. I also love your humour, it reminds me a lot of my professors and gives the video life, unlike the previously mentioned time laps videos.
I love your videos Thomas Baker. Your studio and instructions give a warm feeling and I feel happy watching those videos. It's been a year since you uploaded another video. I hope to see more soon.
Thomas! I loved your video. You are an excellent teacher, you were very entertaining and gave a lot of great, solid advice in this video. Thanks for posting! I feel like I can paint hair now.
Thank you so much for posting this video, it's helped me a great deal with tackling the problem I have with painting hair. Thank you so much! Thank you thank you!
Very nice video I am coming back to oil painting after many years. I learn some new tricks and refresh old ones. Thank you take the time to do this love you work.
Talking about your mother, your doughter, the paintings..., your own hair, the great paintings you do and did... well... it was GREAT to know you, your works, and to enjoy this video. You are SUCH a great and sweet person :)
I'm glad it inspired you. All it takes to paint is the desire and motivation to do so. And of course the more you paint, the better you will become at it.
I have to say, that this was one of the very best, informative, pedagogical videos that I have ever seen on the subject of painting, and that last part just made me burst out in laughter, haha.
Dear Thomas Thank you so much for this amazing posting! I have learnt so much and love it! Am bookmarking so that I can return to it tomorrow! Best wishes to you Carla
I love how simple and funny you make your videos, you make it very fun and simple to learn how to paint, thank you for taking the time to make these videos:)
dear Mr. Baker, this video is so informative and I learned more in these few minutes as I did in several painting courses! Thank you so much, also for your sense of humor!
That ending was too cute. You have, not only talent that you are willing to share with us, but also a great sense of humor. Thank you for taking the time. (smile) It is a very good learning program you have posted.
Thanks, Tom. I've bought a quite few art books recently so I should read them all before buying any new one. Thanks for the list of recommended artists. Bouguereau is my long time favorite. I like how you're an archaeologist yet you're a very compenent painter. Hats of to you.
you are such an amazing artist! You paint exactly the style that I love and hope to aspire to someday. I am a newbie to painting in oils and was giving up because I couldn't find detailed videos. I an so greatful to have found you xx
Soooo enjoyed your video - full of great information, put across in such an unpretentious way. Your love of painting shines through not just in the way you talk about it, but also in the way you have such an incredibly well organised studio. Oh - and the wig didn't look at all bad on you!!! Thank you - and now to look at more of your videos!
