I’m getting into mini painting and hero forge, so this is a great starting place. I know this is an older video, but it’s very timely and useful to me.

I just started watching your videos last week, an myn I say your amazing at explaining how to do paint these little fellas 👏 👌 it makes it seem simple an vary slightly forward..saying things like "were not going to go crazy here this is vary simple" also like how you tell us if you liked the end result or not. Thanks for all the videos definitely helped me!

iv started painting models this year and iv been watching a lot of youtubers like yourself . I have made a lot of mistakes but im glad i did as i feel more enjoyable. But the first figures i have been painting was the Labyrinth game . And they are tiny. So iv gone over to something else just as a brake and painting the Mars Attacks miniatures game and it's still a lot of fun.But i guess i cant put off painting Sir Didymus any longer

Yet another amazing video! I especially like how you turned the seemingly simple tabard into something special. Small comment on the audio: sometimes, just before your voice cuts off, there is a bit of a "pop", like an audio artifact. It seems like it repeats part of what you just said for a split second. If you are using a button to record / stop your microphone it might be that, otherwise it could be your audio processing software.

It's an issue with my video editor. It pops up randomly and only after the final render, which makes it real difficult to fix. I recently upgraded so hopefully it will be less of an issue.

Excellent video, thanks! I am coming over to game miniatures from 1/35 military models where I was using mainly AK washes and other enamel products. I am using Vallejo game inks but have been getting streaky results versus a smooth effect over the surface that you show in these videos. Could this be from not thinning enough or trying to apply too quickly on the underlying layers of paint? I am keeping to the 3:1 to 5:1 ratio you mention, but still see these streaks (orange and red game inks especially). Looking forward to future videos!

You can and I once did. Mainly stopped because the bottle are huge and take up a lot of room on the table and no one needs that much ink.

Really great video! I'm getting back into painting myself, and your videos are a great inspiration. I have one question though: when you apply the thinned down paint, how long do you wait before applying the next highlight? 2 minutes? 5 minutes? Or even more?

What do you use to prime your models and how do you apply it? Every miniature model video I've watched always always ALWAYS skips over this basic, but important, information.
@Don_Giovanni
@Don_Giovanni 5 лет назад
If you haven't found an answer yourself, yet: there are a few ways to do this. There are specific primer paints. You can then brush it on or use a spraygun. Of course, the second method requires some investment. 3rd, use a can primer. It is easy and quick, but some models, like the reaper bones models, don't like it though, so be careful where you use it! Make sure you're not melting your minis.

I know you have been doing this for years, but I was wondering if you knew why metallics always have coverage issues. Most people use the Vallejo model air metallics to solve this problem, as you did. I learned from Anne Foerster in the darksword mini painting video why this is: metallics are meant to be painted over colored paint. This was a game changer for my metallics. Anyhow, I was just wondering if you knew this (I figured you probably did) since you painted VMA metallic over black primer.
@ThePaintingClinic
@ThePaintingClinic 5 лет назад
It's because metallics are solid particles suspended in a semi-transparent medium. You have to use them slightly different than with normal paint.
@garyledford2901
@garyledford2901 5 лет назад
@@ThePaintingClinic indeed you do. my qiestion wasnt clear- I meant to ask if you knew that they were "intended" to be used over paint, rather than white or black primer/undercoat. I was curious why you used the "use Vallejo model air metallics- they give great coverage" solution, rather than just putting the metallics over an undercoat with some color. I hope that doesnt come off as rude or know-it-all. My guess is you went with straight metallic becuase you were adding hues with washes and drybrushing rather than with undercoats. Anyhow, please keep 'em coming. Cheers!
@ThePaintingClinic
@ThePaintingClinic 5 лет назад
@@garyledford2901 Over 25 years of painting and researching I've never heard or read they are designed to be transparent/ cover poorly, so I disagree with the statement. There are some exceptions, like certain airbrushed lacquers designed to go over glossy black, but I'm assuming she's referencing just acrylics. Finding new or different ways to apply metallics is great and I highly encourage it, so I'm not saying the technique being used is wrong. I've just never heard of any paint company bragging about how transparent their metallics are, which they would if that was fact. Quite the opposite.

@ThePaintingClinic

I use Vallejo Matt Varnish.
@DaWild
@DaWild 5 лет назад
From what I've heard, if it's a plastic mini, it's not as important to varnish it than if it's made of metal. It's only important if you plan to play with it a lot and have people tossing it around etc. Personally, most of my minis are for display so I don't use varnish, I think they look better that way.
@StrohmaniasFlyingCircus

The varnish really knocked down the shine on the armor.
@theOnlyOne3013
@theOnlyOne3013 5 лет назад
@@DaWild I disagree. I think minis should always be varnished just to ensure they don't chip - even if you don't plan to handle them often. Depending on the effect I want on the armor, I might gloss varnish the metal bits to keep it from looking too dull.

@ThePaintingClinic

There are plenty of pre-packaged washes nowadays, so it's kind of moot. If I want a sloppy wash I tend to use glaze medium now.

@ThePaintingClinic
@ThePaintingClinic 5 лет назад
@@1234MartinM Yes, you can make your own ink and paint washes from any. Just add water. The glaze medium makes it easier to use and mix and helps to deal with the surface tension issue when using washes. It's not required, but if you are just starting out I'd highly suggest it.
