While the skin tones part was mind blowing, I really liked your explanation of vibrancy at the beginning. My sister used to paint and my parents were always like why can't she just get the basic colors and mix them to make the others. She was too young to explain the concept, it's nice to know there's a reason to it!
also has to do with the fact that the primary colors we learn shouldn't actually be red, blue and yellow, but cyan, magenta and yellow (which jamie calls neons but same thing).
@@null6955 Thank you thank you thank you. I was coming here literally to just say the same thing. People need to get educated so that they stop teaching the RBY primary color garbage.
@@kaijohnson3255 yea right! it's crazy how late i learned it, and it wasn't even in art class but in a printing press where the conductor pointed out the primary color ink cartridges.
@@null6955 I've been doing art for SO LONG and have never understood this. I do it for a living and didn't understand it until a few months ago when I stumbled upon it on a random RU-vid video... Now I understand why I couldn't get the colors I was looking for 🤦🏻♀️
@@kaijohnson3255 yea i wish it were taught in schools. i went through four years of highschool art before finding out lool. it sucks too that there are so many products for beginner painters/artists with just red, blue, yellow, white and black claiming that's all you'd need! it's common knowledge but it's totally inaccurate 🤦🏻♀️
Wow... I never would have guessed green and purple went into skin tones! I loved the intro and explanation about vibrancy. You're such a good teacher :)
I've never realised that a giraffe can be painted with all skin tones; that is SO cool, Jamie! also, "to keep it person natural, we're painting a giraffe"? can you be a world leader already? #JamieForPresident
you can tell this girl is a freaking angel, like she wouldnt have a bad thing to say about anything or anyone, possibly church on a sunday, moves snails off the sidewalk so they dont get crushed subscribed
My son is 4 and LOVES your videos, he calls you the painting lady. He asks me to check and see if the "painting lady" has a video to watch almost every day. Thank you for what you do and encouraging my son to be creative!
That moment when your name comes into the room and you show her the latest video from Jamie and she says is that the girl with the fork? That girl is magic. I think there’s more than one fan in this house. These videos never fail to make me smile
I have recently been a victim to cyberbullying due to people saying horrible things about my artwork, but your videos always inspire me to keep going and try new things, so thank you. 💕
Will genuinely return to this video again and again when I get frustrated with my paints, thanks for the help and the reminder to get more than just primary colours:)
this is one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. paint and color and art have never made sense to me but this video made something click into place and it just made sense
I love how you make something that would scare most first time budding artists look so simple. Yet reassuring them that perfection doesn't happen overnight, and that they should be bold and just go for it. Oh, and I would definitely buy your book for myself.
I just took an acrylic painting class last weekend, it was a nice class but didn't focus on mixing colors. This was really insightful for someone trying to get back into acrylic painting! especially when you like creating (at least somewhat) realistic creatures!
This is actually so helpful. Mixing colours is always what I struggled with so much when I did GCSE art. And skin colours were even worse. Also the giraffe painting is adorable. Reminds me of the London Zoo ones with that background
I remember in high school we used to paint these giant posters for pep rallies, 20’x30’. Mixing skin tones to do the painting was always the hardest part. Usually the art teacher mixed us a gallon or so of paint to use for skin tones. I am not an artist, but thanks for this. It will help when I paint craft projects with my daughter. I think always used black to darken shades, but now I know why it always looked wrong. Showed my 5yo daughter some of your videos. She asks if you ever paint pandas.
Wow this was truly helpful. I am not a painter but I’m working on a diy wall decal featuring young Rapunzel and I was wondering how am I going to paint her skin. Your video totally helped me in figuring what colors to mix instead of buying more colors. Thank you for creating this video.
The explanation of vibrancy was so incredibly helpful. I like to paint in my spare time so I don’t really have a wide range of knowledge about paint and color theory. This was very helpful.
Wow! This video was incredibly helpful! I’m currently starting my painting journey and people are my art comfort zone, so this was exactly what I needed. ❤️👍
So cool thanks for breaking down skin tones that way! You make things so easy! So glad I found your channel. I am trying to cross over from watercolor to acrylics and you are such a fabulous teacher!!!!
Mind. Blown. Love the giraffe painting you made with it, watching the palette and the paint changing as you're using it made me think it'd be interesting if you did a video with a camera setup purely as a time-lapse of the palette and paint in use.
Saw the title and thought "not another skin tones tutorial" but saw it was Jamie and will watch anything of hers. Proceeded to be blown away! Best skin tone video ever! Plus purples and a giraffe? Yes please.
Im glad you used the paint. The whole video I was just worried that the paint would go to waste. I really appreciate that you use your own time and supplies to help us
This is actually SUPER helpful. I’m terrible at mixing skin tones and it’s puts me off of painting people, but this was so easy to understand and I will definitely be referring to it next time I want to paint a person! 💖
Thank you so much for posting this! I've never seen anyone explain skin tones as well as you did in this video. I'm already a subscriber to your channel but I bookmarked this because I know I will want to revisit this again and again.
You are just the sweetest! Watching your videos really makes me happy and has brought back my love of art! I haven’t painted in very very long time and I’m sat painting while I binge watch your videos!
OMG thank you so much for this Jamie! I've been struggling to understand how to mix colors to make skin tones for years, and now I get it! Thanks so much!!
Wow! I am saving this video for reference for the next time I need to mix flesh colors. I've always had a hard time color matching skin tones. Thank you for showing me how to think outside the box on this one.
Jamie, isn't it crazy how different working with watercolors is than the other types of paint? Coming from acrylics you probably feel like you're starting over learning to paint 😆
Wow this video is great and really informative thank you so much! I’ve recently been getting into drawing and I’m also a beginner makeup artist so this video actually helps with learning more about skin tones and undertones when is comes to shade matching people for makeup such as foundation. It really helps me get a better understanding of the colour wheel and how to achieve the different shade range including undertones as it’s pretty hard to understand colour concepts and how to get someone’s perfect match. Thank you once again, there aren’t many videos like these xo
Jamie that was such a good explanation of how to make skin tones. I always find it interesting to hear how painters see so many colors in the actual skin. Keep creating and can’t wait to see the next pin design!
Really appreciated the “person neutral” approach! And I learned so much about the colors of a giraffe. This really is the most delightful RU-vid channel 😊
I love your videos soo much! You are really inspiring to me and have helped me get through some pretty tough art block! Most recently, I have been really ill and I have not been inspired to create anything original or a piece that takes more than an hour, but your positive attitude and your really intriguing content has helped me get back on track! ;)
I find it rather odd that I’ve been painting lately and skin tones have been a HUGE issue for me. And magically this video decides to pop up. SO useful!!! THANK YOU 😭😭😭💕
this is SO USEFUL THANK YOU!!!!!! ive really had issues with color mixing recently and this video answered a few of my questions so THABK YOU!! colot mixing is so tough..
I really liked you’re different techniques and how easily you explain it to us !!! You’re so talented keep it up btw this my first time knowing that we can add purple or neon colors to our palate!! And I didn’t imagine that we add cool colors and warm colors and the same time I always use the red shades for the warm skin tones and blue&greens for the cool ones😟iloveu
You make it look like it’s soooooooo easy but after 20 years I’m still struggling 😂 Great video’s love to watch you and binge watch you when I have an art block 👊🏻 Guess my CAT is also a fan of you because I always gets lots of hugs and kisses from him when I play your videos 😍
thanks this is really helping a lot. i recently started painting with acrylics among other traditional mediums again, but mixing skintones is still smth i struggle with a bit, but i feel like now that i have seen how to do it, the next time i mix them will be a success~~ i usually mixed mine with a mixture of white mixed with sienna tones, red and a tad of yellow if needed, similiar to the way i mix in watercolors~ but i never really thought about mixing even more colors to it~ but i'll try! ♥♥
Its really useful since my teacher tell me "just put orange, red and yellow" To make skin tone. Its not wrong, its the basic, but since im studying art i was hopping for them to teach me more how to mix and make all kind of skin tone. So what i mean is this video really REALLY useful for me since im always confused around mixing colors and like wasting paint since i keep making wrong colors here and there and make another one of new colors to make. Etc 🙂 thank you for making this video its really helpful for me
