Naomi, I wanted to let you know how things went. I just finished up my Stormcast Eternals paint set, which is probably the first thing I've hand-painted in 15 years, and I wanted to give you a super-duper big thanks and appreciation for all your advice and especially your kind demeanor throughout this video. It's super-encouraging to know that newcomers are welcome, especially with a hobby like this that takes discipline and practice and is part of a long-running series. The prospect of having to paint the minis was daunting, to say the least, but I had a ton of fun, and I knew it was a good sign when, not even all the way through the first mini, I thought to myself, "I want to buy more minis and keep painting." And I still feel that way having finished all three. I think you and the other RU-vidrs I've seen, who have been kind and patient with people wanting to learn, are going to do wonderful things for this hobby and its community. I was really impressed with the quality of the paints and the brush in the box. Given the relatively low price of the set, I feared there wouldn't be enough paint, or it would dry in the containers too quickly, or the brush would be difficult to take care of beyond scrubbing and rinsing between colors. But all of the components impressed me, and that's even with my accidentally spilling part of the Retributor Armour on a napkin, whoops! I will say I would prefer "dropper-style" paint containers, which I doubt would be as difficult to open. Thank you again so much for everything, and I wish you the best.

Haha, I think your last comment summed up your voice over perfectly! I felt your pain. Despite (or perhaps due to) your struggles with the limited pallet, I really enjoyed the video, and learned a thing or two. Next to the box color scheme, I thought the leather version looked rather nice. That last one really could benefit from a lighter color for the cloak, or something like red. But then there were these pesky rules . . . . Thanks for the entertaining video Naomi!

A follow-up video with adding only one or 2 additional colours to demonstrate how much improvement you can make (agrax fixes everything?) over what is provided in the kit would probably be helpful for folks new to the hobby - the limitations for highlighting/shading could be frustrating for new folks causing them to consider giving up, when very minor and easy additions result in drastic improvements

Very impressed with the pale armour one. I've painted the four kits that came out when this did and the nurgles box was by far the easiest to match the box and there's only 5 colours and a basing paste. I'd recommend this to any one and I'd love to see you try it.

When you're been painting for years, it's easy to forget what a struggle it must be for beginners to paint their models with a limited selection of paints. This video definitely highlights the problem! I painted some wulfen recently, and must have used at least 20 different paints. At GW prices, that's about £80 worth of paints to paint a set of models that costs £30... I know you can paint your whole army with those same colours, but it doesn't help when you're just starting out and need to paint your first unit! No wonder GW tries to get everyone to play ultramarines...

Having painted a large sacrosanct chamber stormcast army in hammers of sigmar colours, I have to say this video gives me flashbacks. Those sequitors have so many little details compared to the old liberators, plus tons of cloaks, robes and bare heads that all need to be painstakingly layered in different colours. And they are just your basic troops choice... I'm proud of my stormcast army, but I'm never painting one of those guys ever again!

I'd love to see the set up you have for filming. It seems like the camera would be in the way when your painting but you don't seem to have any problem with it. What kind of camera are you using, anyway? Also, you have a very pleasant voice. Like Bod Ross pleasant. I think you may be my favorite painting channel.

They looked pretty well to me on the end, my fav was the golden base layer one; imo that set it's too basic, on the late 80s the 40k paintsets had 9 paints, two or three synthetic brushes and 6 recesses on the tray to make your mixes, sadly they didn't have any ink or wash... but you wasn't "that restricted..." and we're talking about when Reagan was still president belive it or not.
@SegFaultMatt

The gold one overall looks good, but I think the highlights need more gradients. Via wet blending or more layers.

Naomi.....Love your work well done, think i prefer the box-art-one, but really I cringe when they say "no primer" and by how you were limited with colour. ...Now, did you change your finger nail colour to match your painting being done, lol? Always looking for more from your videos
@fourtwentyist

if you hold a toothpick/cut off skewer to the rim of your paint pots you can easily poor off the amount you need it will just run down the stick to where ever you are pointing it less chance of over loading your brushes and getting the dreaded ferrule full of paint.
@swordnsteele712
@swordnsteele712 3 года назад
Except, despite the toothpick, it will gather in the groove of the painting pot rim, forcing you to clean that part out every time or not be able to close your pot properly when it dries, plus causing a waste of paint, unfortunately. I would suggest using a separate larger paintbrush to dip out, or transferring the paint to a dropper bottle :)
@thanasisgeronimos9124

One the one you had painted rakarth flesh all over at the start, you could have used the morfang brown that you were given, the highlight to the rinox hide, and paint the spots that you painted blue...so you would have a more uniform tones of brown...although not at the same hew , the rakarth and the morfang brown look very well together...and since those two models you were doing your own thing and not the guidelines of the boxset, then a watered down version of the rinox hide would be an very good was for both those colors....
@swordnsteele712

@swordnsteele712
@swordnsteele712 3 года назад
Reikland Fleshshade can be good, if the original base colour is red, pink, or orange hued, but Rakarth Flesh doesn't have that so it would be better with an alternative wash. Which colour were you hoping to wash over?
@SegFaultMatt

Agrax Earthshade works for me with Reikland. But you’ll have to paint over some of the staining you’ll inevitably get.

Very Noble attempt using just the kit paints, I would say to avoid doing this and put a disclaimer for new players that a decent primer (Airbrush preferred) be used. Spray primers work well too and after a good wet sanding at 3200 or higher will produce a smooth ready to paint finish. Contrary to popular belief (Myth) in the Hobby, the smoother the better even for acrylics, the whole need pits and grooves for the paint to bite is not only wrong but should be banned from You tube. Great video as always, you really have that courage to go box only and I love it. The results aren't bad at all and table top ready easily.

The Rakarth Flesh and Blue one looks amazing but the brown look terrible and best be avoided, in my honest opinion. But Naomi who says we need to paint mini's precisely as the box art would have, as its one's personal preference that I'd go for . Cheers....
