Painting The END of the World in Procreate [TURQUOISE] MY BRUSH SET: gumroad.com/an... More of my art on instagram at: / angrymikko prints available at: society6.com/a... #illustration #procreate #ipadart
Everytime I am watching a video from you, I am just stunned and amazed, how this "chaotic" and "random" brushstrokes and colours grow into a full and sence-making piece of art. Did you see the actual outcoming painting in your head, before you start painting it? Or did the painting grow, while you paint ? You are an real ARTIST, thank you for sharing your gift with us. Love ! J.
I’m just as surprised about how it all comes together in the end as everyone else 🧐 But I have to say it’s the same checklist I teach in my classes that goes through my head as I’m painting. I trust the process and knowing this simple list of things is enough to get me a finished painting at the end. The end result might be a surprise even to me but the process is just a pretty mundane list of questions that pretty much anyone can use. The hard part is just the sheer number of paintings that needs to be completed to be able to answer those questions. This is just a fancy way of saying it takes work. But if it didn’t it would be boring and there wouldn’t be a reason for my channel to even exist.
I don't know if you are familiar with the work of John Singer Sargent, but take a look at his oils, particularly if you can see some close-ups. From distance they look extremely realistic. Get closer, though and you will see chaotic and random brushstrokes as well. He reputedly would often stand several feet from his canvas, then run up to it, dab a stroke or two then run back to view from distance again. Digital artists get the luxury of being able to zoom in and out!
Oh it’s light outside, for once! 😱 I love that you did this outside, what a beautiful spot to sit and relax. Glad to see you enjoying uploading different types of videos 😍 Also, love the bracelet! 😏❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Hey, I noticed that you asked in the livestream how long I’ve been on RU-vid. First of all sorry for not answering the text sometimes scrolls by so fast that I don’t notice everything. My first video is from September 2018 so I’ve been at this for about 2 years now. If anyone is wondering: don’t let those numbers fool you. My first videos didn’t get anywhere near to 300 views. Those are mostly new subscribers going through my old stuff. The first year was consistently 20-100 views per video. If anyone reading this is thinking of starting a RU-vid channel keep in mind that this hobby is a marathon. Very rarely does anyone get to 1k in their first year.
angrymikko awww thank you for replying to my question! 2 years is pretty impressive actually. I think everyone’s first videos tend to get pretty low views, so I’d say that’s normal. I feel like your videos exploded in popularity last year, so someone at RU-vid clearly loves you haha 😜 And don’t worry about missing my question in the livestream, it’s hard to keep track of comments when it goes as fast as it does 😬 I’ll keep what you said about what it’s like for the first year or two on RU-vid in mind. I’d love to be a content creator on here but I’m terrible at editing videos and talking to a camera (I hate my voice!), so I’m a bit reluctant to start. How did you overcome that fear, if you had it at all?
I have the voice that I have. I know everyone hates their own voice when you hear a recording for the first time. However editing the audio alone takes at least 3 hours for a video before even adding music. At some point you just get used to it. Obviously since it’s hard to feel confident about your speaking voice it’s pretty rough to read comments that attack parts of you that you really can’t change. That’s pretty common too. I’m pretty strict on boundaries and I recommend treating any of your social media channels like it’s a party you’re hosting. If someone can’t behave themselves just remove them. They will ruin the mood for everyone else. Sure I want to grow this channel but not at the expense of the community that is here now. If someone attacks me I treat it like they’re attacking all of the subscribers on my channel. Just kick them out right away and don’t ever apologise or feel bad for doing so. That part is ongoing work so you don’t want to ignore it either. Same for my ig channel. If I didn’t actively work on picking out the haters, self promoters and spammers then they’d take up 3rd of the whole comments section. Seeing that discourages the audience you’re actually looking for from participating in the discussions. There are a lot of spammers here too but luckily google has a pretty great automated system that does a lot of the heavy lifting. This might sound rough but it’s stuff that people usually don’t talk about.
Unapologetically making it sparkle! That's the Angrymikko way, I love it! I feel so much joy in your voice when you talk about your art. I'm learning so much from your videos, I have a week off this week and you are inspiring me to practice and learn and explore my own ideas, thank you for sharing your gift!!
Being able to paint really is a vacation to me even if it's during a busy work commute.I hope your week that sounds awesome =) I'm getting back to my commission queue and finishing some projects. it'll be harder to make videos but the limitations will push me to find faster ways to edit (I hope).
This is exceptional Mikko, I absolutely love it. I'm definitely colour biased because I gravitate towards video games that are bright and colourful, so this painting works perfectly with the sand, water, sky combo. Beautifully done - I really REALLY must dedicate time to practising this technique.
I loved that you mentioned you were waving at the microphone! I also find joy in laughing at my own quirks. And the Animal Crossing reference was much appreciated. It has been my safe space for the last couple of months. Tom Nook is my my hero right now. He can charge me all the bells.
Watching you paint is mesmerizing. One day I will get an iPad and Apple Pencil. They are rather expensive. I am having some difficulty with the disconnected feeling with my Wacom Intuos pen tablet.
Thank you so much for all your insight! You have been very helpful and encouraging in all your videos! You throw in so many good nuggets of information that send me looking for even more info on how I can improve my painting, composition etc.
16:00 when I use the wording that I ”practise” ive done my best arts while doing it! It lets me let go and just do anything i want, and try what im otherwise scared of trying.
@@angrymikko so do your videos - the way you talk about art and painting makes me happy and gives me alot of anticipation to paint myself. Thank you for being so inspiring and motivating for other artists! Much love from germany ^.^
I’m sure you will find your own way of painting that will be the perfect match for what you want to say with your art. Sometimes I have a bit difficulty understanding why someone wants to copy my painting stroke for stroke. That’s so much effort for what could have been used to express their own opinions, emotions and the things only they have the ability to communicate. I guess I’m looking at my paintings from the experience with concept art. The ideas themselves are the finished product. In concept art the paintings themselves are worthless.
@@angrymikko You are right and I guess you are not afraid to experiment to make it what it is. It's hard for me to get in this mindset, but I am working on it! I love your videos and thank you for replying! 💙
I found that it can be prudent to be careful about posting too much online before it's time. Long ago, I did such a thing, before I was ready, and I got a lot of criticisms and suggestions, which I attempted to follow in order to improve. What happened, though, was that I found myself moving in a direction that was *away* from my own original goals, and also moving towards work that I no longer enjoyed *doing.* The result, (suggested by other people no less), became more important than the process, and the process became a chore, and I ended up quitting and losing years of development. (I didn't quit art altogether, I just moved into 3D)
I didn’t say it’s easy. The opinions of those people will always be there, when your art has more traction online those voices will be infinitely louder. Learning to stand up for yourself and put boundaries on how others affect you is a difficult skill but it’s definitely a skill. The thing that worries me with kids these days is that everyone is waiting to “blow up” without understanding that the kiddie pool is there to develop skills for surviving the exposure. Without that training the popularity they so desperately seek will drown them in it. I’m by no means popular. Far from it. But I deal with these issues every single week and I’m grateful to have decades of grind and terrible mistakes behind me so that I don’t have to go through those in front of thousands of people watching. (At least not all of them🐻)
I wish I could always have footage from that island. Such a perfect place to make art. I took 30 minutes of ambient sounds of the waves and the birds just for myself to listen to while painting :)
@@angrymikko What you said about your art being your escape, and your special place really resonates with me. I think listening to music to get you in the mood really helps during the painting process. Can't wait to see what you do next
Found this through instagram and such a great discovery to find such an amazing RU-vid channel to go with it. Thanks for sharing your work, really want to get into painting
Seeing your paintings (the stone bear island with glowing blue eyes) inspired time to start drawing and painting as a hobby/therapy its been over 10 years. I am very new to procreate and never painted in real life. To make my own brush that works for me (similar to how yours is) what brush should I start off with to learn? My goal is to do landscapes in a oil/acrylic look. I just want to do these for myself. I am so happy I saw your advice on undersaturated colors to enhance at the end. Keep doing what you’re doing with these videos!
I just rewatched this - it's actually so funny when you talk about how you want to make the water sparkly and glittery at 27:00, I'm now just sitting here and smile haha :D
Just got an apple pencil for my iPad! your videos are giving me soo much inspiration. I'm new to all this. What exactly do you mean when you say line art?
First of all, great video! 2nd, you can also open up a patreon page without making content for it. Just make a low tier for like 1 to 3 bucks so that your real supports can support you.
That's what I was thinking too. Make it $1/month. No content. Just for support/appreciation. If 1/3 of your subs joined.............that would a pretty decent income.
Hey Mikko, Really loved your videos and your thinking. Just wondering if you share some of the music that you listen to while painting. Also, your paintings really drew me to the worlds you create.
I have done one video for myself with just music for painting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ivw61SxfjDM.html If anyone is interested I might do one again. Kinda wondering if that would be risky considering how badly the last one did on my channel so it’s not like that’s the most obvious thing to repeat.
Hello! your paintings are incredible my congratulations .. can you ask me a question? how do you shoot the tablet screen without showing the reflection of the phone on the screen itself?
@@angrymikko I already tried with several light sources from different angles and nothing changes the screen keeps reflecting the camera ... you don't use any specific configuration on the camera or an anti-reflective film?
Love your paintings I need to learn how to utilize the masks in procreate better I can do cartoon style art ok but your landscapes are so rich and mine look very flat in comparison
Omg, thank you for all this info 💙 I'm so jealous you get to paint outside, aren't there mosquitoes there? Lol Also, what did you mean about pride flag? Did I miss something?
There aren't any mosquitoes on the island because it's surrounded by sea water and there are no lakes nearby. This is 6th colour in the pride flag series. There are 8 in total in the first iteration of the flag. 2 more to go after this one.
i love your works and videos. i have basic language of english, my original language is spanish. its too complicare put some subtitle in spanish please, thanks
