Never knock a man down when he is trying to protect his investment. At least he's doing something about instead of bellyaching like most. Only thing I would have suggested since you do have a paint gun and air compressor would be to purchase one gallon of the rust oleum paint or tremclad and one quart of thinner that they carry and squirt it. One gal. Is more than enough to do a frame from top to bottom. I use the semi gloss or satin finish. It hides most of the flaws and imperfections on the surface. Get a couple rolls of plastic tarp from the dollar store and cover the lower half of the cab and sleeper so you don't get overspray on it. Sand blasting would have been the better way to go labour wise instead of that liquid goop stuff and scraping. A bag cost less than 5 bux depending on the grade and you would only need 2 or 3 for that job. Again since you have a compressor. It does go everywhere and you would be finding some sand for the next 5 years. Lol!!! I did a lot of trucks and frames over the years, some competition level and others econo since the owner wanted to flip their rig. You'd be surprised how much a clean frame makes your truck look. Keep up the good work!

For extra protection and longevity I would follow this with a coat or two of Clear coat paint .

This is usually good for 4-6 yrs running southern states. probably won't last near that long up north, the stuff they put on the road eats everything quickly!

This is one of the reasons I got that western star project I got, it has almost no rust. These Volvo’s are rusting to death early. Just look at them at the truck stops and u will see them all be super crusty.

preservation is the goal....well worth the effort. i use rustoleum oil base. i thin it and add a hardener seems to work ok. rust is miserable to deal with. i actually prefer the satin finish....the pits and imperfections dont look as bad as with the gloss.
@LifeWithChase

yep, as long as its not rusting away doesn't matter to much, it'll be road film covered as soon as it rains. can't keep these things clean if you get caught in the rain

Dang Chase you bought a yankee truck lol. I’ve been pretty lucky over the years I’ve had either a new truck or one that’s just three or four years old to start with and kept the frame rails like new. The one I have now I bought when it was four years old. Now it’s ten years old and have kept it like new. That’s what I do in the evening when I shut down. Your truck is looking good 😎👊

Sandblasting does get everywhere. But if you mask properly it’s not an issue. And that’s hands down the best way to prep. The shop I work for Ford them slot. Then epoxy prime and paint

Id say spray it up every year with fluid film or Krown. On a new truck it would never begin to rust if sprayed since new

Well done. The only good protection of frame is - full fenders on both axles. Can’t chain up but screw it, quit driving to BC at winter because of that reason, driving on chains with super-b is a bs anyway.

Awh man, you painted over the shiny Road King shocks! 😯 Check out Strong Arm Fluid / USA Fluid it's a liquid spray on that stops rust. Works excellent

I threw them road king shocks in the scrap pile and hauled them off 😂 had 2 of them the ends broke off of and some were starting to leak. Put some regular shocks back on...
@Roger_Rabbit_Adventures

@@LifeWithChase loved mine except for the ones that leaked. They are so strong had one break the Volvo mounting bracket on the bottom after lots of miles. Think one reason they leak is from sitting low with the air bags deflated. Heard FOX shocks will rebuild them.

The best way to paint the frame is to use an oil base paint. You can buy it in a gallon. Thin it out with mineral spirits and spray it with a cheap spray guy. It last for a long time.the original paint is oil base that why it last so long

Why would you buy a spray can when you have a gun and compressor. You could have bought a quart for the same price you paid for one aerosol can and gotten 5 times the coverage. And for another $5 you could have gotten implement paint and add hardner and watch it last alot longer. But that rust wiil be back in a couple of years.
