Yesss! This is my favorite Hetzer camo scheme- the first one I attempted back in the day with my brand new (at the time) Iwata airbrush. Very well executed on your part!! 😁 looking forward to hearing how your Demo goes in a few months
I actually considered that, but I'd invested so much time in the modelling and I needed to keep things moving along, so decided to go without it. Thanks for connecting in agin though! Its appreciated
Hi. Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate it. The whole RU-vid world is new to me. Learning as I go 🤷🏻 Ive tried to set it up now, so hoping it may be there moving forward. Love that varnish too btw! Incredible product 😍
Hi Clayton. Thanks for this video. It helped me resume my Elefant, which I had painted and left as a shelf queen. I will keep watching your videos as they tackle some of my roadblocks. Keep up the good work mate!
Glad it helped! I love hearing these videos are making a difference for people. Makes the time and effort to create them so worthwhile. Good luck with the build 💪 Thanks for sharing 👍
Wow I really live what you did with the cut out I'd like to have a go at that my self I'm gonna look for an interior kit build as always brilliant video and very informative and I always like it when you reference vallejo paints as that's what I use so I can relate then 😂
Glad you enjoyed it Joe. Just be brave with your models and try new things. It might not work the first time, but you never know…it could be a masterpiece! Always look for the lesson. Vallejo paints are good. I used to use them almost exclusively. Thanks for watching the back catalogue ☝️🤩💪
Engines always intimidate me too. Mainly because the engines I build I have trouble finding decent reference for. I obviously touched on the engine for this Hetzer build, but I’ll add your request to the list to do something a little more comprehensive. 😎🍻
My Opa’s unit (8th Panzer Division 43rd Abt) had a Hetzer . I could never find it on the T O and E list for the 43rd Abt Panzerjager. But they had one. My Opa spoke of it and I have a photo of it in action. Also in the book of the history of the Division it is mentioned. But what I really want to do is make a diorama of a small skirmish my Opa told me about. His crew was using the Marder 2 Sd.Kfz. 131. He was in the last Marder on the end of a defensive line. They were dug in. Opas boy hood friend was the CO of the 43rd Panzerjager Abt. His name was Capt Amsel. Opa said that when Amsel came over to check on them all he’ll broke loose. The Russians broke out of the tree line and after a bitter battle over ran the Marder. The crew of his Marder, the adjacent Marder and some Panzer Grenaders fell back along with Capt Amsel. Immediately Amsel organized a counter attack. And this is the scene I would (or someone else) I want to recreate in a diorama. Opa said they ran back to the Marder screaming like mad men. As they got to the vehicle they noticed the Russians were trying to move the vehicle out of position. Capt Amsel was the first one on the scene. (He always has a white tunic on with an officers soft hat.) Opa said it was hand to hand. Everything from guns to fist was used. They did win that skirmish and my Opa and Capt Amsel both survived. Capt Amsel received the German Cross in Gold. I think that would be a very interesting diorama. My question is what company makes the best figures for this battle scene?
Hi Eric. I feel so privileged to have heard that story. Thank you for sharing it with me! For the figures…I seem to recall Masterbox or possibly Miniart had a couple of sets of hand to hand combat poses. But I’d say no matter what you do you may need to consider modifying the poses to suit. That would sort the soldiers, but the guys wearing the panzerjager uniforms could be a little trickier. I see Some scratch building and modification in your future😛😉 The diorama idea is fantastic, but made even more special because it means something to you. Can’t want to see it! 🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 If you wish to make it I feel it may come out a lot better! But I’ll give it shot. Amsel must have a white tunic on with a soft officers cap. Opa said he always had that filthy hat on cocked to one side. But for both of them to survive from 40 to 45 in the same unit is astounding. They called Opa “The old hare”
Absoluelty bloody briliant to see it finished. My grandafther made 2 models of a Hetzer in his life time. He painted both light-brown. I dont know why he chose that colour scheme and I never got to ask him why (he was in one for a while) but I have never ever seen a a solid brown camo ever.
What a wonderful model... I am glad that I found your channel... and I think I have to restart my modeling hobby after so many years. Thx for all your work, looking forward to see more of your videos. Greetings from Austria
Thanks to you for connecting, and to hear you are going to pick the hobby back up is music to my ears. Welcome back 😃. Great to have you as part of the community 🙏🍺🍀
So, about to go to bed and this came up and had to watch. Very thankful for you cutting the path on this kit. It will be a minute before I get to this build, but your journey on this project will help me greatly. Thanks for the information an entertainment. OHHHH.... and the model looks great by the way.
Very Nice build. I want to say Thank You, for an excellent narration of your work as you go. For those of us that are new to either building, or painting, these videos help to tutor "us" with our builds. This is the first of your videos I have watched, and immediately Sub'd and saved this video to my modelling watch later. Next I go to all your videos and give them Thumbs Up!! As I watched you add the lead wire to the front lights, have you ever wired tiny lights that actually work? Cheers
Wow. What a beautiful comment to wake up to. Hearing feedback like that helps me reconcile the time I put in to making them…so thank you to you 🙏 Re lighting….i tried to light the interior of a king tiger but it all got too hard and never tried again. Interesting you mention it though because I’ve been thinking about trying to use lighting on an upcoming project 🤔 Still getting my head around it. So happy you’ve found the channel. Thank you 🙏🍻🍀💪😎
A great final result for the Hetzer Clayton! The camo and weathering are outstanding, as is your use of the airbrush. What airbrush and setup do you use for close up detail work? I don’t seem to have much success with freehand camo due to my shaky hand, so I use stencils or flexible medium to create the effects I want. I know this gives a hard edge to the result, but it works for me. I have really enjoyed this series, and looking forward to your next project. Love the channel mate. Cheers for now!
Thanks again Gary - love having you as part of the channel community. A lot of people have been asking about the airbrush, so to let you all know, its an Air Cobra from Ammo by MIG - 0.3mm. Nothing special. I just like the cup configuration on it. Easy to mix paint and then clean. Detail work and fine lines is all about the thinning of the paint and the air pressure. For detail work Im thinning to about 80:20 retarder to paint and spraying around 12-15psi. In saying that the type of paint and the environment you are spraying in will have a bearing on what that looks like... Hope that helps
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Thanks for the reply Clayton. Considering your advice, think I may be getting the paint mix wrong with my setup. I know that different paints react differently to paint/thinner mix, as well as different air pressures, so I am trying to find the brand of paint that I find the easiest to use and then I will stick with it. I also realise that I need to get in a lot of practice with the chosen paint and airbrush that I use. I will give your recommendation regards the paint mix and air pressure a go and see if I can make it work for me. Thanks for the tip, and I will let you know how it works out. Cheers for now mate!
Great question! The raised rims on these 38(t)'s used to rub against the edges of the tracks resulting in them becoming polished. If you look at reference images it can be easily seem most of the time. It happened with a lot of these vehicles during this period of time. Its an interesting detail that a lot of people overlook. Glad you noticed :)
looks like I have 3 Hetzers to update, I never noticed that! I live right near the military heritage museum and have been wanting to go there for a while. They have a Hetz and a Panther there, I can't wait to get some ref images@@workbenchhobbies4316
If the vehicles are static the rims will have rusted up. The polished rims would only apply to functioning vehicles. Always a good idea to polish the high points of you tracks too. Makes for an interesting detail on your model 🍀
I can never get AK real colors to mix right, even with their special thinner. It turns out like a milk shake. Either I’ve gotten some bad batches, or it needs a massive infusion of more thinner. Tamiya paints seem so much easier to use. I’m not knocking AK. Id love to try them again. Until I can nail down this issue I can’t put it on a build. Didn’t Uncle Night Shift have a similar issue? I hope I’m not misspeaking. This builder is a genius though. He’s a great teacher.
Hi. I find ak real colour very similar to the Tamiya paints. Try thinning it with Tamiya retarder thinner (yellow cap) or mr colour levelling thinner. That should solve your issues. You can confidently mix them too. Hope that helps. Appreciate you joining in ☝️🙏💪🍻
Great stuff! You’ll love it. Try not to compare your work to other people’s. Just enjoy the journey, the result isn’t important. Love to hear how you go. Good luck 🙏🙌🏼✌🏼💪
My favourite camo scheme on Hetzer, good choice. I really enjoyed watching this video, well done, very informative. The model turned out great. You're doing excellent job, Thanks.
Looks great. You've a steady hand & the patience of a saint. An alternative to the wire loop for applying super glue is sewing needles. Cut the top of the thread eyelet off to create a fork for the glue. Different sizes of needles allow you to have more/less super glue. Drill a hole in a bamboo skewer and you've got a handle. To clean out the glue just burn it off with a lighter. I find it a bit more controllable.
recently discovered your channel, great work!! subbed and liked....ps love the idea of using beer caps as painting cups 👌😂🍻 working on a 1/48 kit and about to start the painting so will be drinking a beer as need the cap of course 👌😂
Brilliant 🤩 You know, of all the techniques and tips I share on the channel the bottle tops is the one I get the most comments about 😂 Keep up the great work and stock up on those bottle tops! You can never have too many 🍻
wow, the cutout turned out really good. well, the entire model is phenomenal. the oil dots were a nice touch and I think they contributed greatly to the final result. maybe at the end the model is too dark? but it's a matter of personal taste
I'm really enjoying your builds and to top it off, this is a cracking representation of the Hetzer! Theres so much potential with these 38t range of tanks - you have the marder III's, aufklärungspanzer 38(t), grille, flakpanzer 38(t) and the waffenträger prototypes. No doubt ive missed a few others! PS I 💯 agree that this is the greatest hobby in the world!
Thank you. It can be an obsession, and I’m sure there’d be people horrified at the stuff I’ve missed, but those little details, that can be easy to add really can elevate your modelling. Thanks for watching 🍀
Hello Clayton! This looks absolutely stunning. I mean the interior and engine looks wonderful! But I have a question, my airbrush (a non brand 30$ airbrush) has problems spraying. I was just wondering if you know anything about how you make the airbrush spray without the paint not wanting to come out of the nozzle. Thanks in advance!
Hey - thanks for joining in. I don't really understand the question. Are you saying that paint is coming out even before you've pulled the trigger back ? Is it a dual action air brush ? If so sounds like the needle might not be all the way in ? Let me know and Ill try help
I mean that first it sprays pretty ok but when I have sprayed for about 3 mins the paint won’t come out of the gun so it like jams if that is more clear.
What paint are you using? Sounds like it’s drying in the nossle. I’d be looking at possibly thinning your paint more and possibly looking at some drying retarder.
Ok…so it then becomes a question of what you are using to think you paint. Vallejo is an acrylic hence it drys a lot quicker than a lacquer and will dry in your airbrush tip. Thin with the branded Vallejo thinner, and possibly look at their flow improver. The model air range is ore-thinned, so those thinning ratios I suggested really don’t apply to that paint
Great job. I agree with you on doing decals. I recently applied massive decals to a French AC 1914. Stressed me out the whole time. Of course, some of them folded on me, but in the end, the effort was worth it. I think, in your case, having all of the hatches open is accurate. My reason for saying that is because you did an obvious museum piece, and the museum may choose to show off the inside.
Always a balance with weathering isn't there? I have been criticised in the past for not weathering my models enough, but I like the refined look so I just go with it (generally speaking). Thanks for you comments!
Heard your interview with the @onthebench boys and dropped across to your channel for a look… beautiful work, inspirational and well explained… with fantastic results Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
