I love it doc I don’t think there’s an expert on Russian fantasy architecture Baba Yaga goes through the planes wherever she wants and it’s a hut with chicken legs I love the terracotta tiles with the wood shingles

Dear Dr. Long time fan here, been thinking about this for a while... What if you did a monthly or bi monthly painting class where for $100 or more you could have a model and paints sent to you and join a painting session where people could paint along with you?! Besides the headache of shipping you could make some money off a miniature and paints and brush sent to somebody and they could join you for a sort of master class! You might even get a company to sponsor you!

Wonderful video as ever- I always enjoy your uploads. Not quite getting the "stain" aspect of it, though... is it just the sheer amount of paint and water mixture applied, or was there some fundamental point of the process blowing right past my head? I'd be inclined to believe the latter. Anyhow, just an idle question; have yourself a great upcoming week.

I believe it's mainly as a way creating an intentional muddly look on aspects of the model; by using stains it darkens fairly stark contrasts. It also has the advantage of taking advantage of the undercoat rather then completely obscuring it; which creates additional complexity with the brighter undercoat.

What with all the names for different consistencies of paint (wash, glaze, ink, etc.) I just wasn't sure if I was missing out on some technique or product I'd never heard of before. For some reason, I had a Minwax-style product in my head. Go figure. Have a good one.

I hate inventing new painting terms, but with a wash you generally don't want to darken the basecoat. The purpose of this IS to darken the basecoat, so I thought calling it a wash or a heavy wash could be confusing.

@@ThePaintingClinic While I understand your reluctance to coin a new term for the hobby (lord knows there's enough), this is a simple, straight-forward answer that completely answers my question. Like I was telling the person above, I just couldn't get Minwax out of my head, and at some point, I half expected you to dunk the model in one of those old Army Painter cans you have to open with a flat-head screwdriver.
