In this video Ann explores a unique way to apply underglaze using Q-Tips. If you have underglaze and some green ware - YOU can be an artist! It's fun and easy and you don't have to have a steady hand like you do with a brush. Try it out or just watch Ann do all the work in the relaxing video.
All pieces were made from Standard English Porcelain No. 365
Ann painted these in the green ware stage. We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5.
If you would like to buy Ann a cup of coffee so she can continue to make videos then please click here: www.buymeacoff...
Check out Ann's Etsy site where you can purchase pottery made in our videos as well as other thingies: www.etsy.com/s....
Ann also creates sought after custom mugs that she paints exclusively for individual clients. If you would like to learn how Ann paints with underglazes - check out her Video Workshop Series here. These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/show...

In childhood, I used to have coloring books where a Q-tip and water was all you needed to bring the pre-printed colors to bold life! Thanks for reminding me of that fond memory 😊.

Ann, thank you for showing how to mix the colors. Which colors would you mix to get a very light grey? Thank you so much for your tutorials. 💕
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 5 месяцев назад
I use Amaco Baby Blue for grey hues most times but if you want a more neutral then I mix a touch of jet black with white. Mixing blue, red and yelllow together will also give a very rich grey tone. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this video! I have a kiln full of just "glazed" items... I can't wait to try this technique!! Do you cover your underglaze with clear or just leave it flat?
@LittleStreetPottery

Leave it flat to preserve the color! Thanks!

Dear Anne, thank you fir your videos. I’ve been sitting on painting a moon vase for months waiting for the right inspiration. I think I’d like to do a subtle impressionistic like this but w a white glaze over so it peers out from underneath. Super subtle like clouds. Anyway, please advise- if I use underglaze will I need 3 coats? It didn’t look like you used 3 (even for the red or border lines?) Have you painted w oxides? If I go that route would it be under or over a white glaze? Why did you use a slip/underglaze mixture? To give it a little texture? And was this on greenware or bisque? I thought it was bisque at first but then when you pulled the slip out I got confused cuz I thought slip is only for greenware. Lastly, my idea for a white glaze… do you think that’d work? And would you recommend just a thin thin layer or would that look bad? Thanks so much for your advise! I’d like to get started on it without waiting for another tester

You may want to start by looking at my Underglaze Painting 101 video on this channel...I think it will answer a lot of your questions. Thanks. Ive not painted with oxides..and yes, the slip/ug combo gives the painting dimension.

Do you put a matt or satin glaze over the top of these?
@LittleStreetPottery

Hi Lori - I put a light coat of Amaco C-11 on these - clear glaze. Thanks!

Do you have to apply a see through glaze ontop of the underglaze for it to be sturdy?
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery Год назад
Not necessarily - once you bisque fire the piece the underglaze is solid. Thanks.
@Creativeseams7

Do you put three coats of under glaze on you pots?
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 3 месяца назад
Just depends on what type of over glaze I put on it. Typically, if im using a clear glaze - yes, 3 coats. Otherwise it depends on what I'm painting etc.

So am I to understand the underglaze was painted on greenware? I am newbie. Thanks
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery Год назад
Yep, for me always on greenware...easy to fix mistakes with underglaze at that stage.
