Hey uncle night shift, your alone tree in the french tank build got mentioned in a model magazine, I think it should have had a whole article written about it because it’s so great
@@benfisher3695 International Military Modelcraft , it was an article about a Chernobyl diorama and he wanted to do some like the alone tree as in the french S.35
A good way to prevent the pre shading from desaturating the base color. Is to substitute the black with a very dark blue or brown. And substitute the white with a pale yellow or tan.
I don't know if this is a weird idea, but something I've been experimenting with is using different colors like oranges reds and yellows as zenithal highlights to see how it changes the tone and vibrancy of the basecoat-so that might be something you could consider trying
You sir have saved my sanity. I have struggled for long periods of time getting my figures to at least an "acceptable" range for my diorama. This style of painting I saw you do before this video but have since adopted it and what a difference. I can fully understand what "for my purposes" means when you say it as that's exactly where I was stuck or hung up spending way to much time on just 1 figure causing many a diorama to yet be completed. Thank you! thank you! thank you! You are my favorite RU-vidr modeling channel. I owe you a cold one and if ever we get the chance to meet you'll know it's me as I'll be the guy offering my hand and holding out a cold beer in the other.
You could try using red/red-orange transparent glase in the nose cheeks area as the skin there is thinner than let's say the chin. And so the blood vessels are more visible there and as a result, the area is more reddish. Just a fine art tip that makes people look more alive. It works with fine art so maybe it will work here as well.
I really love your new figure painting technique. I’d be interested in seeing you tackle a modern camouflage pattern on the clothing too. A little trickier I think.
You paint the camo pattern and then use the washes to blend the shadows and highlights. It would make an interesting tutorial, uncle, if you didn't to build vehicle as well.
The figures looked already super interesting with just the shading coats. I wonder what a black and white diorama would look like. You would definitely have to make sure there was lots of interesting details do bring out the most without being able to use color.
Your videos are always so fascinating and well paced. I really appreciate your carefully considered commentary as well. It always feels so deliberate. Great work.
Wonderful technique! Black and white are a little stark. But the filters are very effective, and it's the effect that counts, not painting individual details. Bravo!
the paint on the helmets was textured and fairly thick so chipping wasnt a huge problem. the steel was high quality so didnt corrode particularly quickly or noticeably unless left to the elements for a long time.
Good Day Modelcomrade. Exelent Figurpainting. Especialy the Faces from the Soldiers.. Nice weekend and i hope to see soon the Diorama with all Things 😊😊💪🤗🤗🤗🤗🍻🍻
Very nice, though the faces too me look a bit too yellow. Maybe it's just on camera, but I think a warmer tone would make them look a bit more alive. Will have to see how they look in the final diorama and how it blends with the lighting of the scene.
I agree with the need for desaturated colors. Aside from often being realistic, I think that it often looks the best for military miniatures. Once again you have done a good job, keep it up, I can’t wait to see the diorama!
PS. Looking at this video has given me more information how to use those colours. Again great effect. Gives the figure a museum like quality especially for diarama purposes. Good show.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
Stalingrad makes in my opinion the best resin figures in 1/35, their detail is amazing and these beatiful poses are very rare amongst resin figures in 1/35
Coming back into modelling after nearly 40 years watching your videos and ideas has been a great help, if I can get my work half as good as yours I will be happy. On a totally different note, nice to see a WW1 figure that has it's respirator bag the correct way around. Looking forward to your next build.
Hello Uncle Martin! I have a challenge for you! If you accept it, you may create something new and unique (I've never seen one before). Do a diorama depicting a scene from either world war. Paint the ENTIRE diorama in shades of gray, so it looks like a B&W photo! Suggestion: An He-111 down in an English field (with a stone wall running through it, and maybe a sheep or two standing nearby), with a lone Tommy guarding the downed aircraft, or also have a couple of RAF officers checking out the wreck. Or, whatever! What do you think? What do others think of this idea? Has anyone ever seen such a diorama?
If you need help with figure painting, hunt down wargaming and fantasy miniature painting channels. Figure painting is a discipline and art just as much as armor modeling...and you can play with techniques from both sides. Can't stress enough to make mistakes and find a good paint stripper 🙂...and have fun
Your videos are so good. You’ve inspired me and given me confidence to get back into my old hobby of model building. I used to build planes in my teens: Airfix and Selley’s Grip! Goodness! Since I discovered your channel last November, I’m back to modelling: Tamiya and all the quick drying glues and paints, etc. I love it. I’ve built 5 WW2 planes and working on my first tank! The weathering was the hardest, but now I’m developing a method and it’s getting better and more realistic, thanks to your advice. Once again, thanks for all you do. I am in awe of your techniques. I’m always looking forward to your videos.
Any chance on the chap with a cane.... You paint on his shoulder eplileps a little gold diamond with a crown on top? It would designate him as a Lieutenant colonel.. (in British army its pronounced leff-tenant cur-nel). With that moustache and cane he looks fairly high up and seems like the type of officer who would enjoy inspecting the aftermath of his soldiers taking out a tank to boost morale!
Hey uncle night shift, you ever thought about trying a zenithal light for your tanks and diorama? A hard light scene would be amazing and I don't know if I've seen it much in military kits
Looking great as always. I have never painted figures so it is only an observation about which I might be wrong: for me the figures look like they are bronze statues wearing uniforms due to the skin color. Is this only me? Is this only because of the lights?
Hello. I've been watching you for a long time - you're great and you're not shy about experimenting. So I decided to ask you a question, maybe you can answer: in the PC game WOT there are quite complex 3d styles, for example "sakura", you can't inflate such a style from an airbrush, but is it possible to transfer it by aquaprint? English is not very good, so the question is written by an online translator.
Something I do with my figures, American, British some German and so on. I use your tank cast armor texture technique with the filler and extra thin. I use short stiff bristled brush and add the texturing! you wouldn’t think it adds much, but it really does! Most of their helmets were textured in real life with sand, sawdust, cork gowned up gravel. it’s a great little detail adds a lot to the figure! Also when I do hair, mustaches, beard or the head, I paint the hair base color and use white, blue, (blue/ white on black hair I also add some dark brown in there too) (yellow, red, light brown if it’s blond hair) read heads get ( yellow, white, orange) I don’t do a whole lot of it, but enough to brake up the hair. I look at comic books and paintings to see how artist are doing it. it adds a lot to the hair! instead of this lifeless one color look. I take as much time with the hair as I do with the folds on their pants or jackets or their face, even if it’s going to get mostly covered it’s another great detail!
Wow, they came out stunning. I hope to someday be able to reach your level of painting figures. I’m trying 1:76 Oo gauge figures for a diorama and will try your method. Hopefully it will work… anyhow I’m grateful to you and thank your sharing your expertise.
Excellent modelling figures informative and very interesting to watch. I wonder would you do the same technique with smaller 1/48 scale soldiers or other? Not that i build 1/48 scale figures but more for Aircraft pilots and 1/32 preferred of course. Thanks from down under Australia.👍🇭🇲🦘🤨✌️
Outstanding Job Again😊! I am curious as to why you chose to paint the flesh tones last? It works very well for you, but most figure painters do the flesh tones first. Love the work…
I'd like to see this method on a more vibrant coloreset. Maybe a character from Zombicide/Massive Darkness. Probably less layers would be acceptable to lean into the toony feel? Good work! subbed!
I saw the notice, I tapped on my arm to puff up my veins and injected the video straight into me. Had to explain to my wife how I have to go into the garage to watch your video because I am closer to the models!
