This video was produced to introduce the basic fists of Tibetan White Crane Kung Fu. At the end there is some pad striking drills to demonstrate hitting.
Tibetan White Crane (Pak Hok Pai) is a complete martial art system that integrates internal and external methods with the “Si Ji Fa” (四擊法) or the Four Martial Arts Skills of Ti (踢) Kicking, Da (打) Striking, Shuai (摔) Grappling and Throwing, and Na (拿) Seizing and Controlling. The system also provides training in a variety of Chinese Weaponry including staff, various swords and pole arms. In Cantonese, the Tibetan White Crane system is called "Sai-Jung Lama Pak Hok Pai." This translates to: "Tibetan Buddhist Priest White Crane School."

This is a watered down version of what Sifu Ken taught. Little control. Sloppy. You shouldn't be holding your breath while doing the movements.

Brad Dotten watered down? No, it's a sample of some of the basics. I have respect for Sifu Ken Dicksen, were you one of his students? I am not holding my breath, I had a cold and edited out some coughing so maybe that is what you are picking up on. sloppy and no control? A little harsh Brad.

I watched another form as well (with the work out balls in the background). I didn't see anything different. You energy is in your chest. For real power you need to sink to Dan Tien. I respect that you are carrying on the teachings but there was no one like Sifu. You lack power. That is what I mean by watered down.

Brad Dotten ok, thanks for clarifying what you mean. I understand where power generation comes from, and I appreciate where your criticism comes from.

TWC Kung Fu Canada I would have to agree with Brad Dotten to a degree. There is a disconnect between your body and your arm movements. If you were to stop twisting your strike should also stop at the same time, they are connected, your twisting should power all strikes, it's where the power comes from, otherwise you are just flailing. It's very evident at the end of the video where the guy is striking the mitts. Your twisting is good, just got to connect to it....it's a VERY common mistake, some people never really get it no matter how many times you explain it. I don't like to criticise when you're obviously trying so hard but this is how the style can be weakened as your students will copy you. Wishing you well....

I agree and just came here to voice my annoyance with this video. This guy is not in a position to make demonstration videos and needs more training. Sloppy, too much thought, lacking the "flow" or whatever one might call what we both observed!

To all the naysayers who think twc is not effective,,, in the early 1980s an expert in wing chun got his ass handed to him by a tibetan white crane fighter, you see i train in twc, so if say i was attacked by a wing chun guy or by someone who train's in aikido or bjj, it's not likely I'm going to get stressed out....

do you do the 8 treasures chi gong set ?
@TWCKungFuCanada
@TWCKungFuCanada 7 лет назад
Hi TheBhannah, no, I do not practice 8 treasures chi gong. Our Chi Gong practice is with three sets: white crane breath (Pak Hok Gung - 白鶴功), white tiger breath (Pak Fu Gong - 白虎功) and Needle in Cotton set (Min Lay Chum - 棉里針).
@TWCKungFuCanada

You are most fortunate to have practiced these motions from Si-Gung Chow. I met him only once about 5 years ago, he was a very nice man. 8 treasures is a popular set and good to practice. If you are ever in Edmonton you are most welcome to join the group and practice Cotton Needle. Our Pak Hok curriculum can be found on this webpage: www.twckungfu.com/energizer/Curriculum/curriculum.html

I studied with Master Chin, Hop Gar, and for my final exam, had a real street fight with this giant weight lifter. I won and credit the style. Forget Shoulin White Crane with useless short techniques until well into the style. This stuff works for beginners that need extra long range power. Tibetan rules! It's much different than Okinawan type stuff that has un-obvious applications.
