Pakistan 1st leopard  

A very informative yet emotional documentary made on Margalla Hills ever. I am an animal lover and we must let these beasts live peacefully in their territory. I have trekked these hills twice till the top (Rangers Post) back in 2009-2010. I started at 7PM from the trail no.1 and made my own way off the trail. It was August and drizzling. A local guard (not so equipped) indifferently warned me of a leopard which had migrated from Siberia however, ignoring his precaution, I moved on. Route was very dark and meandering. It had started to rain. In an hour or so, I explored a waterfall and a big cliff in the midway to cross over to the top which obviously, I did not try. Nevertheless, I made my way till Daman e Koh but route to the top was only accessible through a trail which I also found accidently. Finally, I reached the Rangers Post by 9:30PM; Had some refreshments at Monal and "walked back through road" to the foot of hill and reached by 1:00AM. I can not walk much now as I am on crutches these days but given a chance I will trek them off the trail again.

A lot of things have changed in the Margalla Hills. I have studied in Quaid I Azam University for my Masters Degree in (2007-9) batch. We used to go for hiking in the hills regularly and there was no leopard in 2007-9 time. There is a stream at back side of our University Hostel called Jinnah stream, this stream was even visited by University girls. If we go to hills from that stream a village called Ramli something was in our way. The villagers in that village used to warn us for leopards but we never listened. After crossing that village in the middle of mountains, there are two trails, one goes to Shadra Springs (easy way) other goes to Pir Suhawa (difficult one) we completed both during our stay in University Hostels. We also completed the trail from Bari Imam to Pir Suhawa which goes along a stream and a waterfall can be seen on the trail. During 2 years of regular hiking we never witnessed any Leopard. This was from 2007 to 2009. I think, the Leopards have recently moved to hills which are close to the city of Islamabad. This could be because Leopards have been disturbed in their original areas which are close to Ayoobia and Abotabad ..
